x/post from Reddit.com/r/dayz: This mod is generating sales.
puppetmasterjjk replied to phisher34's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A thread that was posted here, then posted on Reddit, then posted here again. Reddit sucks, etc. but it is good for making sales. -
Fix Server Hopping/Quick Leaving (Borderline Cheating)
puppetmasterjjk replied to wattle's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My group got screwed over last night when we got ambushed by some guys with NVG's. Two of us got killed, but the rest managed to fight them off. Unfortunately, the ambushers just logged off as soon as they realized they had bit off more than they could chew. Also, hi Wattle. -
The Walking Dead: Chernarus...
puppetmasterjjk replied to Diamondback's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I believe Rocket has said in the past that this sort of re-animation would be impossible with the backstory (not yet released) of Day Z. -
Yes, scrap them. They are counter-productive when it comes to the reason they were implemented (They encourage murder for multiple reasons). They subtract from the realism. Even worse, they cause a headache for you when you deserve to enjoy making your game.

That's not how most people play though. There are many places to visit and "set-up" at. The NW airfield just has the highest risk and reward, but you can find the same great gear elsewhere too.

This means the connection to the server is bad. It's not a feature of Day Z. Edit: Actually, now I know what icon you're talking about. I've seen this new icon my self, but don't know for sure what it represents. It happened as I was shot. It might have to do with the anti-disconnect system or "humanity."

Private Military Company is the expansion. But like you said, that's only if you want the high-definition models for the player characters. (PMC units)

Turkey, I believe the situation you describe over and over is completely fictional. If so many people really did play the game in the way that you always describe it, then even I would start to have complaints and suggest "balance" changes. Edit: The only time I've had a problem with someone's behavior in the game was when someone was freaking out in side chat like this kid: I can understand the frustration, but you don't need to spam the entire server just because you had a bad break.

I agree, Evans. Whenever I want to set up a campsite or start a fire quickly, it has to be in a wide clearing. This makes it much easier to be spotted and limits the locations to choose from.

Why is night so bright now?
puppetmasterjjk replied to Kenya East's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It might have to do with the server restarts. I'm not sure what in-game date they're all supposed to be set to, but it may be changed/reverted every time the server starts up again. -
How realistic are ballistics?
puppetmasterjjk replied to bonetopick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What Tajin said. You can also zero-in the sights on many weapons with the addition of Operation Arrowhead. In ACE, you can even dial-in scopes for windage and elevation. Unfortunately, Day Z doesn't use the ACE mod, but Arma II still has some very good ballistics without it. -

Arma has real lunar and tidal phases. Stars are also accurate to real life. -
Is there a specific server or time that people log-in when they get together with these fancy weapons and just constantly blow people away? How do you know what their intentions were or what their weapon was? How did they manage to spot you? Personally, I have only ever been caught off-guard by another player once. Weeks ago, a hunting rifle sniper was near Chernogorsk and my group was screwing around in the open for some reason. He hit and killed one of our guys with his first shot, then the rest of us escaped using smoke cover and ambushed him later on. The one time I actually managed to get killed by another player was when I decided to sneak up on a team of two and fire wildly into the air. I've encountered huge amounts of players. Most of which I avoid, a handful I have teamed up with, some others I help out and then part-ways with, and finally there are three that I have killed. Perhaps it could be that I just play on the wrong server at the wrong time, and that's why I don't witness these insane "deathmatches" that apparently are all that goes on these days. I suspect, however, that these claims are just gross exaggerations used to try strengthening one side of the argument.

Everyone's playing your game the wrong way, Turkey. Even Rocket!

The solution to most of our PVP ”problems”

Credan, I believe at the time the OP made this thread, direct chat actually was broken completely. -
Quoting what I said in another thread:

The sun should be setting roughly in the west, yes. To add onto the navigation bit- It's pretty important for anyone playing to learn how to use a map and compass to get grid locations. Whenever I set out somewhere with my group, I plan a safe and concealed route for us to take, making sure each of us with a map understands exactly the locations I'm taking us to and where along the way we will travel. Edit: Sure it takes a lot longer and some more effort than holding down "w" while facing the direction you want, but it will keep you alive. Also, if you want to be really fancy you can navigate using the stars or just check out the constellations if you want. -
I stream live quite a bit. Your download will be done by the time of my next stream, however.

The solution to most of our PVP ”problems”
puppetmasterjjk replied to -Legion-Expendable's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ACRE (and ACE for that matter) added into the mod would be pretty great. Especially with the different radio frequencies that survivors would have to tune into in order to reach anyone that isn't within direct chat range. The problem is that ACRE currently requires everyone to be in one Teamspeak channel, which isn't all that practical for servers filled with random people, as many of which are new without much Arma experience, let alone ACRE experience, that would have trouble even getting it working properly. I suggested a watered-down, in-game, "ACRE" system. Basically, you are limited to direct chat until you find a radio. Once you find a radio, you can use the side chat, as if each survivor has tuned into the same emergency frequency. It's a very "ghetto" radio system, but it wouldn't require any extra effort from players, and nobody would be left out. -
PVP - Spawn Points and Safe havens
puppetmasterjjk replied to bionoman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You were in the most contested spot on the map, found one friend, and declared it was a safe zone? It is very naive of you to think that every player on the server would become peaceful toward you just because you went and made yourself an easy target. You got yourself, and whoever teamed up with you, killed. It reminds me of that scene in Battle Royale with the two girls on top of the hill, shouting with a megaphone that they're peaceful - only to be gunned down by a greedy psychopath. The reason you start out in a rough spot and with little equipment is to make everything you do into a risk. You lose practically everything by dying, so if you don't like it, then you learn to stay alive. If every player was as peaceful as you wished, then the game would be dull and nobody would play it. -
Remove the bandit, create the legend
puppetmasterjjk replied to orbital's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
New models over time is a pretty good idea I think. Your first couple of hours you get something civilian-like, then after that, you are a bit more tough looking and move into the PMC skins, maybe eventually you can graduate into proper military skins if you're a really excellent survivor. This would give people more reason to stay alive, while it doesn't really dip much into the gameplay. The starting skins could be useful for more experienced survivors, as they will see by the way someone is dressed that they haven't been around very long, and don't have much to lose. Otherwise, just make is so there are 10 or so models players can just choose from/find. -

This is a great idea. I'm not sure why this alternative hasn't been thought up before. (Or maybe it has and I just never saw) -

I didn't even know that they changed shade. Fuck colorblindness.
