Running about like a scrub in Elektro. Get to school house - 2 dead bodies here. Have a look about, some dude in civi skin wriggling about on the grass between the Eastern Firehouse and the shacks up the hill slightly. He has a DMR. Act casual and run downstairs, up the main drag towards the base of sniper hill and circle about. Find a double barrelled shotgun. As I come around see a bunch of zombies in a pile milling about huddled up Log off #1 Hear gunfire towards the church so turn around and go back towards that - see some guy being chased by zombies, take a shot at him from the hip - miss - turns to go into the church, it's fenced off and he's gone. Log off #2. Think oh well bitches really do be bitches and run back again towards Eastern firehouse and spot mr DMR man back on the grass, takes a couple of shots at me (from like 80 yards) misses, hip fire the shotgun at him, I miss, distance is closing down annnnd log off #3. Pissed off at this point and need to go for a piss. Climb the empty firestation and get the gf to keep a half eye on the screen for me whilst i'm atop the firehouse. She says someones moving about so I finish up and grab the laptop off her. Sure enough some dude in a ghillie suit is just plain running through the grassy plains towards the fire house, stand up and double shot him with the Enfield, looks like he had an M4/M16 confirmed kill body vanishes log off #4 Suddenly a wild DMR man appears again, I take a shot at him with the enfield and the bullet goes sideways (Can anyone explain if there is anything one can do to judge wind or is this server de-synch? Happens ALL the time with the m1911 for me). Log off #5. I'm really bored of this now so I run to Cherno it being uneventful and I get to the site with the mass graves on that small rise before the carpark/multistorey building. Hear pistol fire to the right. Jog on over to where the long and high value barn is just north of where the graves are and theres 2 dudes one in a ghillie other with an AKM with their backs to me running towards the high value. I've been running ages and the aim is all shit so I crouch run after them, one of them turns to bag a zombie and probably saw me. They both run into the barn and up the steps. I get there after 30 seconds or so and get my breathe back, throw in the novelty grenade and get nothing. Run around the other side and what do you know?! It's mr logout #6 and #7. Really getting bored at this point, been on for about 90 minutes and this is all that has happened. Go into Cherno and hear gunfire near the apartments - I run on over and gunfire again, winchester inside the apartment closest tot he hospital. No fucks given anymore I just run at it and pick up three zombies, I can hear the guy walking about on one of the upper floors as I climb the stairs. No one there. Log out #8. I have a Lee Enfield and a Makarov and I half the time run about with Direct Comms on with zip a dee do dah playing etc. Why do we need to "collect data" on logging out behaviour? Just put on a 1 minute log out timer and be done with it - I genuinely see no benefit to doing this "tracking/analysing/banning" as we all know the algorithm will effect the worst 10% and of that worst 10% most will ban appeal it with the usual bullshit. People with kids or postmen at the door and have to log and then die - sucks hard but "It's only a game" - meanwhile the rest of us have no game/sport as it just hits alt F4. TL;DR People log out of this game too much.

I might just join them - except I won't log back on. Getting to the stage where I might take a month off from DayZ, the majority of the player base knows very well how to abuse the mechanics too hard. I mean seriously who cares about dying on this game? I lost a ghillie/as50/m4cco/rangefinders/2 x NVG etc last night to some hero with a Lee Enfield. It was server de-synch and I was behind hard cover on my screen but for him, he probably had the best fucking catch ever on the game and you know that's cool. I can die to that, latency is never going to be perfect and CQB fights on ARMA II are broken as all hell anyway but logging out? It's like flipping a chess board when your opponent puts his finger on the queen, not seeing what might happen, not taking any risk just flipping the board and trying again later. It's like people who sit there playing stuff like single player games on extreme mode just abusing quick save.load. You're not playing/competing in anything you're just wasting your time...

Share what you will. Here are my contributions... Keeping red meat on inventory is paramount. Most people run about like idiots or try and return fire then bandage themselves, this runs the risk of passing out or dying in subsequent shots. Chucking 4 red meat down your throat after getting some marginal cover really gives you survivability. You can breathe underwater. Nuff said. Don't lay in the middle of a field with a Ghillie suit - it doesn't work how you think it works. If they've seen you it's generally better to get behind a bullet proof tree than a paper thin bush that hides you. If you hear incoming rounds and it sounds close/mid range and there is no cover, hit prone and turn towards bullets - makes you pretty much a headshot kill target but your profile is small and you will have a chance to return fire if you get a bit of luck. Under zero your rifle - aiming for the head and having a bullet drop into the knees/lap/chest of a target is infintely better than having a bullet go over the top of a target. You can also see the bullet land where overshooting you don't tend to. There are more but I'd be interested to see what others have to add.

So looting 2 guys I killed in the middle of the NW airfield who were geared up after scanning around with an L85 for 5 minutes first makes me bad? Received fire, prone, returned fire with M14 - I got hit about twice with an AKM, he took the M14 and died. Was he bad? Probably. Was I just plain unlucky? Yes. Would I have died to an AKM at 100 yards trying to run for it in the middle of the NW fields? I think so. Thanks for the advice though.

In your circumstance it was harsh bug luck. When I have grenades I'll pick up chem lights and go through a pack or two practicing throwing them before I need the 'nades in combat.

Again... Sigh. My example was specifically where there is no cover. Option 1. Run about until you get shot and die (cannot fire whilst running) Option 2. Stand/crouch and return fire. Option 3. Prone and return fire. option 4. Log out. Which option would you recommend in the explicit case where there is no cover?

You don't disagree with me - my example was when there is no cover, if there is cover take it! (See standing behind a bullet proof tree) :)

You talk about fresh spawners on the coast like they don't know what they're doing. If you come down to the coast and protect me whilst I find an Enfield inside 5 minutes and headshot you then more fool you - you protect what is yours - your loot, your people. Fresh spawners on the coast are not your people. I agree that makes for a boring endgame but that is what it is, I have no doubt what-so-ever Rocket will make it more dynamic at some stage in the future.

See I don't think it is gaming culture in this case; I think they actually think that a sniper = a scoped high powered rifle.

I'm literally drawing a picture for those all over the boards saying things like "Yeah I just got a sniper" "You need a sniper" "What is the best sniper?" "I just found a sniper at a heli is it any good?" "What sniper is the loudest?". If it doesn't bother you or you haven't noticed then I am jealous - because it makes my brain hurt when I see it.
