If you have matches right click the matces(not the wood) to build the fireplace. Then use the mouse wheel to light fire. If it goes out you need to put more wood in the fireplace's inventory. Also use the mouse wheel to bring up the Cook Meat option. That's about all there is to it. :)

Date/Time:6/15 and 6/16/2012. Around 11pm to 1am Central Daylight Time. What happened:The lighting is just instantly being sucked out of the world for short periods of time and then returning to "normal". Best way I can describe it. Also had the sky instantly go from cloudy to clear with stars and back again within a minute or two, sometimes longer. It was instant when it does change. Just running around and I can see the trees/horizon and sky and then bam, light is seemingly non-existent. I know how dark night can get in this game, but this is different and pretty non-nonsensical. Where you were: Western part of the map mostly. What you were doing: Normal Dayz stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary. *Current installed version:This happened with both 1.7.0 and 1.7.1. Also with Beta .701 and .825(the newest) *Server(s) you were on:US3 and Seattle 14 *Your system specs:Phenom X4 965, Radeon HD5770, 8G RAM, Win7(64bit) *Timeline of events before/after error: Nothing special that I can think of that would be pertinent. So, I didn't find a thread that addressed this and others that I play with have said that they were noticing it too. Makes it really hard to navigate at night. I can't see it being a problem during the day. This may be an Arma 2 issue, or more likely a Beta patch issue. This is also a very recent issue that I have not experienced before.

How often are your camps raided?
AlfalphaCat replied to corruptshadow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used to play with just a few guys, and we had a camp that never got seriously raided for at least 3 weeks. We also set up another camp so that we didn't have all our eggs in one basket that was near a town with supplies that were hard to come by at our old camp. It was working out nicely and one time I ran all the way back to the old camp to see if it was gutted, but no it seemed like no one had found it. Well we started getting more and more folks playing together and started finding vehicles, at last, and that is when our camps started to get raided. We first just went back to the original camp and that lasted about a week before some joker came in and stole one of the shitty cars. He died quite spectacularly, I hear. Anyways, my advice is to just not care if your camp gets raided. Unless it is several people doing the raiding, you won't lose too much. This joker, jdz, is a tool. Camps are not only used by people that die, to get back to the place gear-wise that they left of, they are used to make survival more likely when you are still alive. They don't ruin the game as long as people are using them to survive, but not to game the game. It is a place that groups can meet up and set off from, and it gives you a goal beyond just finding food and water and not getting shot or eaten. I had a character that lived for 20 days, and it was mostly due to smart scavenging and storing of stuff we could use on regular bases. I personally hate dying and then just running back to friends or camp, to just have almost all the goodies I had before, and I am sure there are plenty of people that use camps like we do, and maybe grab one or two hard to find items when they do die. -
Grenades kill you like this. Don't hear the explosion and boom "YOU ARE DEAD".

[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
AlfalphaCat replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
How about the stats for average life expectancy per server. I would love to see the disparity from server to server. I am sure it is really low on some and rather high on others. -
I'm gonna survive Day Z IRL...how about you?
AlfalphaCat replied to -AATW- Gj's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Really? No knife? -
It's moonlit because the moon cycles just as IRL. It will go away soon enough. Oh noes, why does the moon come out once a month!!!?

Rocket, dude! Can we have old mouse wheel menu back?
AlfalphaCat replied to killzone_kid's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
For eating and drinking I prefer the new method. I can move food or drink from pack and then eat or drink, without exiting gear and then scrolling. And yes for multiple tasks it is better, but when you just need to bandage quickly the wheel is preferable. -
Rocket, dude! Can we have old mouse wheel menu back?
AlfalphaCat replied to killzone_kid's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I was gonna start another thread on this subject, glad I used search. I didn't know about the performance issues, but if anything does get put back in the wheel menu, it should be bandages, morphine, and painkillers. Food and water are fine as is. Those are the only things I think should be optional in the mouse-wheel menu. Argument that it dumbs down the game is moot. Looking at an inventory screen while trying to survive some life threatening situation dumbs it down, also totally pulls you out of the experience. Now if I need to eat or drink, it sort of makes sense that I will need to take some time to get it out and take the time to consume it. If you were really prepared for this stuff, grabbing a bandage from a specific location on your person, would be near instantaneous. Heck you still need to wait for the animations to play through to get the desired effect. Also makes me wonder why painkillers are instant, but a morphine syrette takes as long as bandaging. It should take a second to get the child safety cap off. :P -
Yeah kid, you are looking for a game. You are looking for something that is a diversion from your sad reality. Making all those choices at the character creation screen just gives you some sense of control/power. Rocket wants to take all choices from you, and make you make the tough choices when you actually need to, in the moment. Go outside. Go running around in the woods IRL. Live a little, don't let a virtual world be your life.

Incorrect. It's rocket's anti-game. I suggest you read up on what he's trying to do. When rocket described it as an anti-game he was talking about the lack of balance and the challenge (unless my interpretation was horribly flawed somehow). No' date=' DayZ isn't supposed to be a "balanced game"; it's supposed to be difficult and unforgiving and harsh. I understand that and I think it's cool. I'm not asking for a game where the zombies arbitrarily scale to my character level, and I'm perfectly happy with a world where I will probably die frequently and frustratingly because some arsehole wants my beans or I just didn't find enough ammo; it makes managing to survive all the more rewarding an accomplishment. Those aren't things that I'm contending and they're what the whole anti-game thing is about. What I am challenging is the idea that people should be prevented from, y'know, roleplaying. Being yourself isn't roleplaying. If a man wants to play a female character or a woman wants to play a male character for one life, that shouldn't be a problem; they shouldn't be discouraged from doing so, they shouldn't be denied that opportunity based on an arbitrary binary choice they get to make once. That's not difficulty or challenge, or a "hard choice", as some people have said; it's just a "fuck you". A hard choice is deciding whether or not to take the extra magazine or the extra food, knowing you're possibly choosing between starving to death or being eaten by zombies, and that's something that affects you for all of one character, one life. Being forced to make a choice which denies you the option to do something differently in the game for the rest of time is not a hard choice in the spirit of the game; it's just a completely arbitrary one. It is bad design, even when you accept the idea that the gameplay should be harsh and unbalanced. The very fact that the choice is not even something which makes a gameplay difference (or at least, once it's all implemented fully and working, [b']shouldn't make a difference) is what makes the lock even more perplexing, because it cannot be a decision that was rooted in consideration of gameplay or difficulty. Rocket is already trying to move away from a system where appearance was dictated by earlier actions and give the players more customisability in how they look; it seems a massive step backwards from this to then introduce a new system even more rigid than the one he just discarded. The only reasons I can see for it are rooted in prejudice or the misguided notion that DayZ will become a world where the characters of the players ARE the players and behave exactly as the players really would in their situation, and that's simply never going to even be close to a reality. There must be something about sleep deprivation that just inspires me to yak on endlessly, it seems. I think most of the people like you that blather on about gameplay and what Rocket should do totally misunderstand the concept of "anti-game". He is not making a game at all. Or at least something that is not like any game that is currently popular with the masses. He is not here to cater to what you desire, but he is here to make you want the things you don't desire. The one-time gender choice is perfectly "anti-game". The only problem I see is that some IRL women might have gotten bugged out of the choice. Something I see being rectified. Think outside of the...

All these idiots joking about rape have never gotten laid. They just want it in game so they have something to jerk off to, while using their tears as lubricant. Have fun with that, morons. Get some fucking sleep and eat some food, Rocket!! No sense killing yourself creating this awesome survival mod.

I think it depends on how many players, and how many of those players are in areas that zombies spawn. So if there are 50 of 50 on a server, and they are all in spawn areas, the numbers will be quite high. I have seen less zombies than players many times.

So it would be cool if there was one more commodity that fit between cooked meat and canned foods. How's about a canned meat that is more rare than normal canned food, but it gives you 500 blood? When you don't have both a knife and matches, which let's admit can be a PITA to find both, finding something like a can of SPAM would be a great score. Let's face it, eating 5 cans of food for 1000 blood is not a very good pay off, animals aren't all over the place, and when you do find them they rely on tools that can be hard to find, if not scarce. Anyways, thought it was a good suggestion. have fun out there kids...

Canned Meat. Gives you 500 blood!!!!
AlfalphaCat replied to AlfalphaCat's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I understand they are intentional. I am talking about a stop gap. It wouldn't make the game of survival that much easier, but would add some variety to loot. It makes sense that such a thing would exist, if all these other things exist as well. -
Feral dogs and feral pigs. They attack on sight. This game needs more "baddies". Not just zombies. SKS and Mosin Nagat are awesome suggestions. Get rid of the Enfield. Most of Okytbar's ideas are spot on.:)

How about a tip on picking up a different backpack than the one you currently have? Has been tricky at times. Not entirely sure about the mechanics of it.
