Axe and raincoat are too OP to start with. Couple matches, or some other fairly useless stuff, without gear to make them useful, would be cool. I would just like to see random starting gear. Nothing inherently useful, just stuff that you may hold onto for the future. Flashlight and battery are still pretty useless. We don't need better starting gear in a survival game. It is still pretty easy to stay alive, even with the new features.

I think shoes are a big factor as well. I ran around with hoodie and beanie, and stayed warm enough as long as I kept dry.
-
I think drinking from wells makes it too easy.
-
I have never had any problems with stairs, ever. I think it is lag, or desync related.

Meh, the Hoe works pretty well, has good reach. Make sure you use official servers, i was getting the please wait crap, then checked and it was probably a poor quality server. The ones that say Dayz FL-2 or wherever they are based and hosted by gameservers.com. The Vilayer ones might be good too. Good luck...

The War on Wilderness - Reclaiming Myshkino
AlfalphaCat replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
It also would help, once vehicles are introduced, to slow down the running speed of our toons. It makes the wilderness seem so small. good luck with your crusade to save the wild places. :) -
Is a Down Jacket better than a Rain Coat?
AlfalphaCat replied to lys (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Wool jackets are working well for me. Looks funny with a chest holster and all the other gear, but is warm, has 4 slots and seems that as long as indoors, even wet, you will get warmed up. -
Being the nice guy is often the hardest job in dayZ.
AlfalphaCat replied to OptimumVision's topic in General Discussion
Don't fret. Most of them get theirs sooner or later. Help a bambi with some zeds, me being just a little less a bambi. He proceeds to try and hack me up with his sickle, I just her an ugh behind me, "Did you just try and kill me, then break your leg", I said. Yeah, uhh, duh, or whatever he said. "You soo stupid." Was funny, thanks for that. ;) -
sawn off .22 sporter poll ...should we be able to
AlfalphaCat replied to slippery gypsy's topic in General Discussion
I said no. What you really want, OP, is the Ruger .22LR pistol. Those are actually fairly accurate. I knew an old dude that shot a deer in the eye from about 50 yards out. That Chager thing up there looks soo fucking stupid and a waste of money. Why the fuck would you need a bipod on a pistol of such low caliber? -
I think what you just stated, is exactly what he meant by consequences. Not some artificial system that tracks who you kill. I also think that a large variety of weapons could help the loot spawning system to keep ammo rare. That is when loot spawns are working properly. Yeah, you might find ammo all over the place, but it is rarely the type you need. You may find guns of all different kinds, but you were collecting the wrong ammo earlier in your search. Shit like that, y'know.

And how exactly do you plan on charging said Taser? A tranquilizer gun, and darts would be just as uncommon in this part of the world as a .50 caliber sniper rifle. Grenades and other explosives, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this game needs tons of military-grade weaponry, but to say that their existence will only be used by 'bad' players in exploitative ways is just wrong. Hopefully there will come a day when even the naysayers will want that grenade as a horde of zombies corners them in a building. :) :) Grenades are fun, is all I'm saying. Thermal scopes, NVGs, and high powered sniper rifles are another thing, and I am sure they will be a non-issue when the game rolls out. EDIT: @Badash, yeah it is an over simplification. I just think it's silly to not include things in the game because they might get used in ways that other players don't like. That's the thing, it's not like Dayz developers have any intended uses for the things they include. That is the nature of a multi-player sandbox. Here's the game and do what you will with it. KOS is just a symptom of an incomplete game, there is just simply not much to do for the average player to do. Most people just don't like exploring the game for what it is. I am not one of those folks, but meh, to each their own. That is how you play DayZ!!

Where did you special people get the idea of non-dangerous weaponry, and WTF is non-fatal weaponry? What purpose would it serve besides trolling people? Frosti, I don't think you know what exploiting means. If it is in the game, it is not an exploit. What is a legit player anyway?

Yeah, I spawned in the ocean after my first session was lost. Sorta pissed that I needed to swim for 5 mins, but the same garbage happened in the mod, I can deal with it. Looked to me that I was on an island. There was nothing but plain grass texture, no grass, for a while then I ran into a store that had nothing but bottles of water. Are you grenade launcher whiners serious? Non-lethal weapons? You do know that people can kill with bare hands IRL, right? @Frosti, you are just stupid.

Has anyone been using the flares BTW? I loved using them in the mod, because they gave great light without having to carry them. Can you even throw stuff in SA yet, just curious.

What Happening If i Copy Arma II And Operation Arrowhead to another computer and keep the real one
AlfalphaCat replied to ken_kennagi909's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then you should be able to uninstall it on your main PC, and then install it on your laptop. You may not need to uninstall, but I am pretty sure you will have to with ARMA series. Right click in your library and click delete local content. That is how you uninstall. Do it for both then log out on your main PC, and log in using your lappy. -

Did you purchase through Steam? -
That's because it is overcast, 20 miles is not very far for light to travel. I like the pitch black, when there is no moon that is and if you are in the forest. I disagree that the Gamma exploit is not fixable, just change the scale that gamma can be adjusted. Sure everyone's monitors are different, but the wide scale, with regards to brightness and gamma, could be tightened up a bit to make it less of an exploit.

Would be funny/interesting if they were actually Christians. Looks more like bad/extremely bored role-players. Why do players of DayZ think that all they need to know is 5 or 6 TV/Movie references, to actively role-play with their actual imagination? Use your crotch unicorn already!!! :P :P :P

Seeing signs of strange player activity at NWAF... (ATTEN. CCSD INVESTIGATORS)
AlfalphaCat replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I just think it's funny that 75% of the people playing this game think it is great because it is so easy to cheat and get away with it, while another 20% wonder what the hell is going on. I guess I am of the 5% that will probably wait until this garbage blows over and starts playing again when it is all more square. -
Hotfix changelog: Stable Branch: 0.35.115188
AlfalphaCat replied to mattlightfoot's topic in News & Announcements
Sorry, but I haven't been following DayZ as closely as I'd like. Is the stable branch going to be updated soon, or is it being hotfixed without changing version numbers? -
Bumpity, yes again
-
Yes. It's simple, zombies are so easy that fists are the best option to deal with them. They are the main thing that made the original mod interesting and difficult. Sure they seemed retarded, but it was that same retardedness that made them hard to deal with at times. Bring back glitchy/difficult zeds and we will have a better game. Keep It Stupid Simple. Something that Dean doesn't seem to get. Probably why he almost died on a simple training mission that inspired this game.
