Does sniping need a nerf?

Sniping is the most difficult kind of shooting you can do in DayZ. Using an Assault Rifle or anything related is just point and click. Using a sniper you suddenly have to account for distance, time of bullet travel, even elevation. You have to use a very loud gun that draws a lot of attention to yourself, from both zombies and other players. Sniping doesn't need nerfed. The problem isn't sniping itself, it's all the duping and hacking that's made AS50's just as common as Lee Enfields, if not more so. As long as these issues are fixed in standalone, which I have every bit of confidence that they will be, you'll see a lot less would be snipers out there. I imagine you'll never see another 50 cal in Cherno or Elektro ever again, maybe with a few super rare exceptions. -
Does anyone else notice how horribly flawed the humanity system is?

There are a lot more situations than this where it's self defense, avenging a teammate, stopping someone from stealing from you or whatever, but you still lose humanity. It needs to be HEAVILY tweaked if it's going to work. Honestly, I love the idea but I personally believe Rocket needs to ditch the humanity system. I don't doubt his abilities but I'm not sure if he'll be able to come up with a way to make this work. I'd love for him to prove me wrong but having the game itself try to tell you who is bad and who is good is probably never going to work. -

Try joining and leaving different servers repeatedly until you spawn on the coast. That might fix the bug. If it doesn't post here again (preferably) send me a PM and I'll see if I can help ya. -
It depends. Personally I love the M4 over any other gun. However, I'll take an M16 M203 over any M4 that isn't an M4 Holo. It just depends what you want out of your gun.

There are plenty of me. People just like to blow banditry out of proportion because they're mad they died. Hell I got shot at by a bandit on the way to him. I called friendly and explained my situation to him. He stopped shooting and we both just went on our way. As for the "Wilderness is here" people. I know of at least 2 confirmed wilderness spawns. The Kamenka one, and one right next to/in Cherno that for some reason says Wilderness. There are probably more. -

I think playing any video game is a waste of time. That's what they are. Time killers. There's always something more constructive you could be doing, something you could be learning. Doesn't make them any less fun. Just because we're getting stand alone doesn't mean playing the DayZ mod is anymore a "waste of time" than anything else. Hell, it's still helpful to the developers as long as we keep providing feedback for Rocket and co. to use. -

What is considered off the map?

Just keep in mind the DayZ DB map isn't the entire map and you'll be fine. This map here shows the entire thing, as well as the few loot spawns that the DayZ DB map doesn't show because it has some of the north cut off. Changing to Hero skin without losing backpack ?

My Humanity is over 6000. I still look like a bandit. I haven't even morphed into a normal survivor yet, let alone a Hero. So, if it's really true that 5000 is the threshold for Hero, can anyone explain to me why I haven't morphed yet? -

DayZ DB doesn't show the entire map, it cuts off a good portion of the northern section. When grass disappears and it's nothing but bare rolling hills, you're out of the map. Anything past 000 is out of the map. -

I've tried searching this but couldn't find any specific numbers. I was under the impression that I would lose my bandit skin at 2000 humanity. I'm now 4600+ and still running around as a bandit. I was also under the impression that you got the hero skin at 5000, but seeing as I haven't lost my bandit skin yet, I'm not sure how reliable that information is. Does anyone know the exact numbers you need to achieve bandit/hero status, and how much you have to raise/lower your humanity to lose bandit/hero status? -

Humanity carries over when you die. I know this much. I'm just trying to find out it anyone has exact numbers on when you morph, but from the lack of replies I'm guessing it's either just bugged or nobody knows yet. -

Does this mean I'll always look like a bandit to myself, or will it eventually change? Is this confirmed? I've joined some servers sometimes and had 0 humanity, then when I gained the 150 over time I'd switch skins to a normal survivor. Now I'm way past 0 and still look like a bandit. -

How many of those are spam bots? How many of those are really old profiles that haven't been used in ages? As smasht said, how many members did they have before DayZ came out? How many of those are people just signed up to do some research on hacks but aren't actually hackers themselves? Yeah there's probably a fair bit of hackers but I highly doubt that we have 200,000+ hackers in DayZ. -

People who alt+F4 are hard to kill. In other news, water is wet and shit stinks. More at 11. EDIT: Okay no but seriously. Yeah it sucks. Yeah people with better gear are more likely to alt+F4. That just means you have to make your shots count. Protip 1: More often than not, they will log back in right where they logged out, or somewhere near/behind where you shot them from. Change position and wait 5-10 minutes, you'll usually pick up a kill. Protip 2: If you know what their ingame name is, put it into DayZ Commander as a friend. Find what server they switch to, log in and shoot them again. Repeat until desired results achieved. Don't let them get away with it if you can help it. -
What do you risk on risky looting runs?

I take the best possible gear I have at the time. What's the point in having something nice if I'm just going to throw it in a tent or vehicle and never use it? Especially if I'm going to be in a situation where I might need it, I would much rather have my M4A1 Holo on me and a few HE rounds than have it sitting in a tent collecting dust. -
Ever since the weapon nerf the M1911 and Revolver only do 500 more damage than every other pistol. An entire M1911 clip is still not enough to take down a player. Pistols are now more or less useless for taking down other players. You either have to get a headshot or hope they aren't using almost any kind of primary. Since pistols are terrible for killing players, the only use they now have is killing zombies. Since zombies die in one headshot, pistols with higher ammo counts reign supreme. The Makarov holds more ammo than the M1911, so I personally rate it higher. If you feel otherwise that's fine, but logically speaking I see no reason to take an M1911 over a Makarov if my side arms only purpose is zombie killing. The rating is not confused whatsoever. I believe using a pistol against another player is folly. It's asking for anyone with a Winchester or Lee Enfield to end you. Hell, I'm more scared of a double barrel or crossbow than a guy with an M1911 or a Makarov. With that in mind, you only have to land 14 of the PDW's 30 bullets into someone to kill them. It's the best player killing side arm we currently have imo, and it's tied for he best zombie killing side arm as well due to it's large clip size and easy to find ammo. Yeah the sights leave quite a bit to be desired but if I'm in a situation where I'm using my pistol to shoot someone, be it zombie or player, I'm more than likely really close to them so it works well enough. Makarov ammo is very common, true, but it only takes one kind of ammo, and that's only 8 bullets. The PDW takes 6 kinds of magazines, half of which hold 30 rounds. I've never, ever been out of ammo on my PDW before, even when I've gone on zombie killing rampages. The ammo is more than easy enough to find to keep me supplied. I'm not saying y'all are wrong with whatever pistols you think are the best, this is just my personal opinion. I just don't see any reason to take any side arm over the PDW, except for the M9 SD. The problem with the M9 SD though is making sure you always have ammo to use it, otherwise what's the point?

I only shoot zombies when I feel like shooting zombies. or another player has put me in a position where I have to shoot the zombie. Being able to lose zombies with Line of Sight was a pretty cool idea, but it's too easily abused right now. Hopefully something is done about it in stand alone, but I know it's not really a major priority right now so I'm willing to wait. -
Pistol rating from best to worst: M9 SD = PDW > G17 > M9 > Makarov > M1911 > Revolver Keep in mind this is my personal opinion. The PDW is an amazing side arm. Since the nerfs, side arms are practically useless for killing players. This means they work rather well at killing zombies, and what better weapon to have for killing zombies than something that's quiet, has easy to find ammo and has large clips? The PDW can use MP5, MP5SD, PDW, G17, M9, and M9 SD clips. This makes ammo incredibly easy to find. It still kills zombies in one shot as long as you aim for the head, which you should be doing regardless. The only advantage any other gun has over the PDW is the M9 SD, and only because it's completely silent. The problem with that pistol though is ammo is much, much harder to find.

He deserved that. He didn't just make a mistake, he just stood there like a colossal retard while you rolled around on the ground. It's like he WANTED you to take the shit out of his backpack and kill him with it. -
If you drive straight into town right up to the loot spawn nothing shows up. Make sure you're at least 30m away and give it about a minute. Once zombies spawn, that usually means loot has spawned as well.
