So, I'll admit I didn't read through the entire thread so this point may or may not have been brought up, but I feel it needs saying, what with everyone arguing and cursing OP for posting coordinates to a camp. Rocket himself has specifically said meta-gaming is allowed. Infiltrating TS/Vent, stream sniping, all that good stuff is meta-gaming. This is also meta-gaming. You are given knowledge of a camp outside the game, you then go in game to use this knowledge to your benefit. It's all totally legit. Until Rocket comes out saying "This type of meta-gaming is okay but this type isn't" then it's all fair game. OP, you can put the coordinates back up if you feel so inclined, don't let other people tell you it's not "cool" or "okay" or that it's "lame".

How did you discover Day Z?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to antiwarus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First time I saw DayZ was on youtube, watching Destiny play. After watching him hijack that UAZ I had to get it. It's funny though, because I can't stand watching him stream. Too much alt+F4ing. Makes me sad. -
Fell in water, lost ALICE pack.
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Monkah's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can only get your gear after losing it in water if you lost it in a shallow area I believe. If you're out too deep, it falls to the floor and there's no way for you to recover it. You only lose your gear in water if you're swimming while tired I believe, so don't just try to swim constantly like you do running, rest yourself up a bit, you should be able to get back to land without losing your gear. Assuming you don't constantly head towards a tired state while swimming. -
Learn how to properly avoid zombies. It may take a bit of trial and error, and you will probably die several times before you figure it out, but it's possible, believe me. Zombies can't hear you unless you get fairly close to them, but they can see you from pretty far away if you aren't concealing yourself, either by crouch walking or going prone. Just pay attention to what direction the zombies bodies are facing, and keep trying. You'll figure it out eventually.

are zombies really the main threat?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to lowerplains's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm fairly certain Rocket has said that players are to be the main threat in DayZ, not zombies. The game is not a deathmatch, there are statistics on the site itself to prove this. Last I remember it was somewhere around 15% of survivor attempts ending in murder. That's a rather small amount of people dying to murder. Doesn't sound very deathmatch-y to me. Are there players who play it as such? Of course. That's what keeps the game interesting. If those people didn't exist then I wouldn't be so worried every moment I played this game, wondering if some bandit has me in his crosshairs. It's a sandbox game, you need to set your own goals and objectives. So you can survive now, you have all the gear you need to keep yourself alive, and you don't want to go killing people, so what do you do? There are plenty of things you can do. Find and repair a car. Build a camp amd fill it with loot. Attempt to make some friends so you can go raid high value targets, either in-game or through an outside source like the forums. Search for bandit camps, crashed heli's, etc. etc. etc. Make your own goals, find something for you to do to keep it interesting, don't wait for the game to tell you what to do, because that's not going to happen. -
Need tips on being a survivor!! (Help Plz)
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Kotae's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My number one rule when playing a Survivor (which is all I ever do when I'm alone) is to never, EVER initiate contact with other survivors unless you have the upper hand. This can mean several things, such as having a gun trained to their head, or initiating contact from a concealed location, where you can bolt if necessary. If someone does not talk back and seems rather suspicious, assume hostile and either shoot em or (preferably in my case) get out. NEVER, EVER EVER EVER just run straight at someone or in the open shouting "Friendly! Friendly!" You will be shot down without remorse by almost everybody. -

I love this! Thanks for this. Definitely going to put this to use. -
Do you think Rocket is trying to make a cultural point with 1.7.2?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Captain Q's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think that Rocket has more tweaking to do to zombie behavior. Pretty sure the man himself has said this will be one of his primary focuses soon. -
I feel like you (purposefully?) aimed a little off with the M1911, but otherwise nice video. Even if the aim is off on a few shots it's still pretty clear the M1911 is not as accurate and is only meant for close quarters situations. I personally have started taking the revolver over the M1911 as my sidearm of choice in most cases, that range is nice.

Search grocery stores. Much higher spawn chance in there. It's the only place I've ever seen them spawn. You could have easily looked this up on the wiki: http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Or on this handy little map I use: http://dayzdb.com/map

How long until zombies despawn after leaving an area?
Sephka (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do they despawn after X time when no one is within X distance from their spawn, or just if no one is within X distance after spawning them? I imagine this has been asked before but I wasn't able to find an answer. EDIT: To clarify, I want to know what the exact time/distance is, if anyone happens to know. -

All the loot in my car vanished

You're remembering to save the car right? Several times just to make sure? -
How long until zombies despawn after leaving an area?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Sephka (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I know they spawn when you're within 300m, what I want to know is how long and what conditions have to be met for them to despawn. -
To whomever parked the URAL...
Sephka (DayZ) replied to John_Raven's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's it's original spawn dude. Pretty sure it is anyway. Was it next to a building way up northwest? It spawns with that stuff inside it, I just finished fixing one up a few days ago. -

Shit like this is turning me off DayZ :/
Sephka (DayZ) replied to iStP's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What attitude? That's the whole point of the game man, you never know if you can trust someone or not. It's what makes encounters with other players so intense. It sounds like the guy lured you to his friend so they could kill you and take your stuff, but he failed miserably. Honestly as soon as you killed your attacker you should have killed the other guy too, they clearly weren't on your side. Maybe DayZ isn't the game you thought it would be. Maybe it's not for you. But I would encourage you to look at it with a more open mind. You may have a friendly, only kill in retaliation playstyle, and that's perfectly acceptable, but you have to understand that there are a lot of people out there who will manipulate you, who will kill you for your can of beans. It's what makes this game so exciting, you don't know if that survivor is going to help you and become a long lasting buddy who you add on Skype/Steam/TS/Vent/whatever, or if he's gonna shoot you in the back as soon as you turn around. -
Haha, that makarov guy is crazy. Love this vid.

Half Life 2 is a fully functioning game that has many mods. ArmA II is a fully functioning game that has many mods, one of those including DayZ. DayZ is an Alpha mod, very early in it's development that, through word of mouth, managed to get a rather big crowd. This suggestion would make more sense if DayZ was a standalone game, but it's not.

This sounds very interesting. I would be more than happy to be on guard duty. Just hit me up on Steam or send me a PM on the forums whenever you plan on starting this. -

Seattle 52 server side setting 'wall hax'
Sephka (DayZ) replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not a wall hack. I've noticed this on a lot of servers. Those white dots function as a kind of "sixth sense" kind of deal as far as I can tell, letting you know if zombies/survivors are nearby. They seem most (only?) visible in buildings, but the ones I see aren't super accurate like that, showing up exactly where the person is, just that they're in that general direction. Maybe I just haven't noticed it like that though. -
[Questionable] New military grade spawn area?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Where is this "Mystic Peak"? I don't see it on any of my DayZ maps. Is it so far NW that it's off the map? How do you know the name of it? Maybe I'm really derp and don't see it, but I'd like to know. -
Does running increase food expenditure?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Husan Abu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you aren't moving, you don't really get thirsty or hungry. I don't even know if it goes down at ALL while you aren't moving. When you're running across the map though it goes down fairly quickly. What I want to know is if sprinting, as opposed to running makes it go down faster. I imagine it would, but then again you can't sprint for very long anyway before it turns into normal running.
