--- A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ---
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Stings2pee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You know, this would make something that happened earlier today make sense. Interesting. Thanks for the heads up OP, guess I have to make sure that I only play on servers with the latest ArmA patch now. -
So criticism not allowed here?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to DayFlawZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't understand why people think they can buy a game to play a mod, then when they mod becomes big and they want to turn it into a stand alone game, they expect to get it for free. Where are they supposed to get money for development costs? I'm more than happy to pay for DayZ, because I know full well that I was buying ArmA 2, not every version of DayZ that currently and ever will exist. It's not even going to be expensive, so I don't understand the complaints. The only people who are upset are the ones who don't understand they bought a game to play a mod. Why is "Hey, I bought and enjoyed ArmA 2. Oh look, an awesome mod! Oh, it's going to go stand alone, I should buy it!" acceptable, but "Man what the hell, I bought this game solely so I could play this mod and now they want me to buy the stand alone? Fuck that!" not acceptable? -
I feel like this guy is just trolling us all. I can't imagine he's actually that thick headed. This is a public alpha bro. Most games don't have public alphas, true. DayZ does. Hell, technically this game isn't even in alpha yet. It will truly be in alpha when we're playing it on it's final, stand engine. Right now it's just a mod that Rocket released, basically saying "Hey, I have this awesome idea for a game! It's gonna be something like this. What do y'all think?"

Nice video. Personally I would have aimed for the head with the first shot since he wasn't paying attention but at least you got him. Metal Gear Solid 2 guys! Come on! I mean you have the series right but let's be a bit more specific.

EDIT: I'd like to ask those who have "good servers" where they rarely get hacked and still meet people up north to tell me what kind of server they play on. I won't ask for names since I'm sure most people won't want to give them out, but are they low/med/high pop servers? Do you play early in the day or later in the evening? At night? Things like that. Much appreciated. Before I start I'd like to get this out of the way now. This is not a hacker qq thread. I understand that Rocket is very limited in what he can do about it. I am already waiting patiently for DayZ to go standalone so that hopefully, these issues will be solved. I just wanted to ask you all a question, just to see what others had to say. All I want to know is, do you think it's dead up north? Perhaps I've been rather unlucky. I prefer to think of it that way. Most nights when I play, every server, or near every server ends up with a hacker. Most kill everyone. Once was a thunderdome. Sometimes they have choppers. Most of the time though, it's either server wide nukes, or invisible/invincible people shooting everyone. I haven't run into anyone up north in over a week. I can safely run in and out of Stary or NWAF without a care in the world it seems. No snipers, no survivors looking for better loot, nothing. It feels like everyone is staying in Cherno and Elektro because "Fuck it, I'm gonna die anyway, why waste my time up north?" I understand this is just my personal experience and that this may not accurately reflect the state of the game. That's why I'm here, asking you, is it dead up north? When is the last time you've seen anyone up north? Have you even been up north lately? How often are you hacked? Do you feel people are just blowing the hacker problem out of proportion? I'd like to know what y'all think. EDIT: I also apologize is this has been asked or if this is a repeat thread, I did some searching, perhaps not well enough, but I found nothing.

So it sounds like most people agree that there's little activity up north, but others are still finding some? I'm curious, if you don't want to give out server names that's fine, but could those of you who still have activity up north tell me what kind of servers you play on? Are they low/med/high pop? US? Do you play early in the day or later?

This is something else I was thinking of bringing up but decided against it. This is actually a problem I'm having with my current group, and it's making me consider leaving and finding other people to play with. All they seem to want to spend their time doing is raiding other enemy camps that have never ending supplies so we can have our own camp with never ending supplies. We even have a guy in our group nicknamed "Super Duper." I had a lot of fun with them at first when everyone played legit but now I find it hard to even get on DayZ with them, since all it is now is "Let's snipe noobs in Elektro/Cherno. If we die run back to one of our never ending camps and get geared up to go back and snipe more noobs." The thing is, I see massive amounts of people doing this as well. I feel like any server with over 20-25 players has a sniper on Dobryy hill, or sitting somewhere in Cherno, waiting to blow my head off with his duped AS50. See, that's the problem though. I had a really great home server I liked to play on. The admin is active and always informs people when hackers are on the server. The problem is, it gets hacked all the time. Every day I played on that server since the influx of hackers, I've had something happen to me. More often than not it's just a server nuke. I am unable to find another server that's as nice as the one I was on, AND have it be hacker free. If anyone has some recommendations that would be great, but in my experience the only way to avoid it is to play on low pop servers which, as I said before, I find incredibly boring.

Your Worst Betrayel Story
Sephka (DayZ) replied to UsuallyFriendly's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My group and I were at Devil's Castle, heading towards Berezino from NWAF. We were just taking a small break in there, I was alt-tabbed checking vehicle spawn locations. One of the guys in our group had been getting really annoying, and someone else was calling him out on it. He got really quiet for like 5 minutes, but only one person in our group noticed. As I'm looking at vehicle spawns, I suddenly hear over the mic "Who's shooting?!" "Oh god I'm dead" "What's going on?!" I quickly alt-tab back in to see our quiet, enraged group member casually strolling into the castle tower gunning down my last squad mate. I open fire with my M16 and empty an entire clip into him, while taking shots. He goes down and I think "Woho I got him! At least I'm ali--" *Notices -11k blood* "Goddammit" -
You say that like you have to choose between one or the other. It's just an excuse. You don't have to be bad to have fun, and being decent at the game doesn't mean it suddenly stops being fun. Still, funny video. Painful to watch a bit because both parties involved were kinda silly, but still hilarious. I can't believe they let you get away.

I found my first holo in the southwest barracks. At first I just thought "Oh, another M4/M16, no biggy" but then I stopped to examine it. "Hm, sure are a lot of fancy stuff attached to the name. Let's try it out." I instantly fell in love with it. Best weapon hands down as far as I'm concerned. Fancy sight? Check. Full auto? Check. M203 for blowing up those pesky bandits trying to hide behind trees? Check. As far as I'm concerned the M4A1 Holo is the most versatile weapon in the game. I suggest you start making more trips to the barracks in hopes of getting one. They may spawn in crash sites as well but I have never seen that happen. My only problem with this gun is that it's just so damned hard to find. I believe that DayZDB's spawn rate charts are off, as well as the wiki, because this gun is NOWHERE to be seen. I could just be getting unlucky mind you, but I find several M16 ACOG's, M16 M203's, M4 SD's ect. ect. before I ever find even one holo. I doubt it's the rarest gun in the game but to me it sure as hell feels like it.

Is there any way to see the difference between a bandit and a survivor?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except Rocket has said that PvP is the primary focus of the game and will be the biggest threat to your life in DayZ. While it is true that for experienced players, zombies don't really mean anything, that doesn't mean that they don't matter or never will. They just need a lot of tweaking. We probably won't see very much of it until DayZ goes stand alone, but I highly doubt zombies will stay the way they are now. I shouldn't be able to hide in a single bush to lose 30 zombies while I bandage myself. -
Is there any way to see the difference between a bandit and a survivor?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
PvP is the core mechanic of the game. It will always overshadow zombie survival as the main threat of the game. To answer your question, the heartbeat stays even after you've died. If you want to make friends with strangers, in game is probably not a good way to do it. It will end badly more often than not. If you insist on trying in game, at least be smarter about it. Don't run in the open waving your arms around asking friendly. Anyone, bandit or survivor, will probably shoot you if you do. -
Ultimate server settings poll (What should go and what shouldn't?)
Sephka (DayZ) replied to panque's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think TPV needs to go. Personally, I find it MUCH easier to get immersed into the game when it's FPV only. Everything feels much more intense as well. That being said, I still play on servers with TPV and use it regularly. I can also understand people who want it to stay in because they just can't handle playing in FPV because of motion sickness and things like that, but I personally feel the game would be better without third person. Nametags need to go. Spotting people from hundreds of meters away, behind cover, and instantly knowing exactly how far away they are to line up shots easier is broken, and most importantly, it's not very immersive. I said Crosshairs should go, because if I absolutely had to pick one or the other I'd probably get rid of them, but I don't really care that much either way. Maps should not show players and you should not be able to place waypoints (Without a GPS?) In the group I play with, I'm our navigator, because I'm the best person in our group as getting us around without getting lost. I think if someone can navigate well and easily understand and make use of landmarks and all that they should be rewarded for it. Waypoints make navigation trivial. Don't really care about death messages, but it would be interesting if they were gone, would definitely add more intense moments of "is he dead? I don't know man I don't know!" -
You'll mostly see them used to block off buildings, but I personally have not found it to be very effective when used for this purpose. Personally I think their best use is to set up a vehicle barricade on a road, then just wait.

How many slots does a Bizon SD take up?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to austendude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Okay, listen up. All primary weapons take up 10 slots in a backpack. Secondary weapons take up 5. If you try to put something inside the backpack when you don't have enough room, the backpack will eat it and it's gone forever. If you have a weapon in your backpack and one in your hand, and you want to switch the two, NEVER put the one in your hand INTO your backpack. You will lose it. Always, ALWAYS pull the weapon that's in your backpack out. It will automatically switch the two and you won't lose anything. Never try putting a weapon in your backpack if you do not have the 5 or 10 slots free before hand. -
Should I use M107 mag or AS50 NATO mag for my AS50?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Lazee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
AS50 loaded with M107 rounds: 37552 damage per shot. AS50 loaded with 5Rnd 12.7x99mm NATO: 174205 damage per shot. So, if you want to blow a vehicle up, use the NATO. Otherwise, it's complete overkill using the 5Rnd on players. http://arewenewatthis.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/12-07-2012-complete-table.jpg -
Anybody up for a rescue mission?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to drseptapus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DO NOT LISTEN TO ALL THESE GUYS. DO NOT RESPAWN. Stick it out. Be a man. Don't respawn just because you broke a leg or you got an unfavorable spawn position. If you can't get someone to you (I would happily help you out, but I'm very far away and probably won't be in the area anytime soon) then start crawling to the nearest town. Enjoy that journey. You'll never take walking for granted again. -
Is it just me or.... Server Talk
Sephka (DayZ) replied to OddGamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just be patient. most of the time you'll get into the game. Sometimes you have to wait 3+ minutes to do it but you'll get in. I've personally never had to wait more than 6 or 7 minutes to get into a server. I don't think that's too much to ask considering how long I'll be playing. -
If you stream DayZ, and your stream is somewhat popular, expect to get stream sniped. Meta gaming is allowed, stream sniping is part of that. If I can invade your TS/Vent/whatever, find out your location and all that jazz, why can't I stream snipe? If all that other stuff is allowed, why not stream sniping? I'm not saying I do any of this, but as far as whether it's allowed or not, I'm fairly certain that it's perfectly acceptable behavior, at least for DayZ. It may be a bigger deal on other games, but considering Rocket himself has said meta gaming is allowed, until I hear something from a dev saying "Stream sniping is bad blahblah" I wouldn't get all upset about it, or try to stop others from doing it.

"Oh shit! We're taking fire! Better shoot at that zombie!" Funny video nonetheless. -
I just recently picked on up in the barracks. Awesome gun, makes me very very happy. I love the M4 and much prefer it over the M16, and now I get a sight AND a grenade launcher! What more could I want?! It even has a flashlight, although I am unsure if it is functional or not. I don't think I would even trade it out for a silenced version. I love the launcher too much.

[BB CORP] Now Recruitng (NEW CLAN, LOTS OF SPACE)
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Cosmic4's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't be man, we don't bite :) Just add us on steam and we'll have a chat, most likely run around with you for a bit and see how things pan out. Even if we end up not wanting you in our group, I would still be more than willing to personally give you tips and help you out on your way to becoming a better player, if you're interested. Just a quick update which I have edited into my original post, is that most of us are currently based in North America. While this may change and we won't turn people away for being from overseas, I just thought I should mention it as it would probably be something people would like to know. -
How namy Murders I have to collect before I became a Bandit?
Sephka (DayZ) replied to Franz (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I could be wrong on this, but as far as I know, it doesn't matter how many kills you have. You could have 100 murders, if someone sneaks up behind you while you are completely unaware and one shots you in the head, it will count as a murder. I was under the impression that the way it works now, you only get a bandit kill if you get shot at by someone but they fail to kill you, then you kill them. Although I did get a bandit kill earlier last night without being shit at after some dude with a revolver snuck up behind our sniper at Stary and started spraying at him. He didn't kill my friend, I ran up the hill from the tents and shot at him. Bandit killed. It was pretty weird and has me questioning if I have it wrong. If the way I believe it works is wrong I'd like to know how it actually works, with some kind of proof (Links to official posts or whatever) On a side note, I would like to say this guy snuck up behind my sniper buddy, at Stary in the forest overlooking the tents, with nothing but a hatchet and one mag of revolver ammo. When he failed to kill my friend, he kind of freaked out and just ran around. This guy, with no primary and one mag of pistol ammo, goes to Stary trying to kill someone. He had a Coyote Backpack with a GPS and range finders, as well as 10 SVD mags in his backpack. THE HELL?
