Juking zombies is the way to play now
Skeltah replied to BaitedHook's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I enjoyed the slow pace, it increased the tension / suspense of creeping within meters of multiple zombies. Taking shelter inside to watch a horde walk past the door.. finding your clearing to make an escape.. I really enjoyed that type of game play, but it's not for everyone I would imagine. -
>Should probably slap this in the Bug Reporting Forum.< Where were you when you placed your fireplace?

Juking zombies is the way to play now
Skeltah replied to BaitedHook's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would imagine it's on it's way. I have done the juke and jive zombie train as well recently... I miss the stealth of the 1.7 - 1.7.1.1.. I actually miss a lot of things about those earlier builds. -
Barbwire Blocking Entry ways
Skeltah replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't met a player placed obstacle yet you can't jump over. I know it's not exactly great when a zombie is chasing you but you shouldn't die unless of course you have like 10 zombies chasing you. If you are one of those players whom simply likes to sprint everywhere, and pull every zombie, then run into a house and kill them, I'll admit it's highly effective... try working on learning when to run, and when to stealth :) this should fix your problem. the "v" key allows you to vault over obstacles. -tank spikes -barbed wire -park benches (you can usually walk over it in one direction) -sand bag walls (you will rarely have to try twice to negotiate the obstacle.) -
Use a combination of stealth and speed, always aim for the head, and your problem should be resolved. Of course their going to come back, that's why you don't squat for long on a loot location you just cleared. I both sneak, and run between buildings in major cities, such as Elektro, and Cherno. Provided you find a weapon with a few mags, you should be able to play pretty much however you want. You'll probably never going to have more than 30 zombies swarming you alone, which also happens to be a popular magazine bullet count. Aim for the head with your iron sights. I have dumped too many hours into this mod, and I have come close to dieing a lot, every time I think I'm going to die I normally end up rebounding with lucky loot, and coming back even stronger. For example, this morning I was down to three rounds in a crummy pistol.. and was served up an MP5 with one mag, which was like Christmas, that's 30 zombies i can kill, which should mean your good to go for awhile, in less of course your just not doing it right. :)

Crashed helicopters a little too common?
Skeltah replied to sunnz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
LoL As that other guy said, I also have a ton of hours into this mod, and I feel the helo spawn is really well balanced. Just because their is a helo doesn't necessarily imply that there is worthwhile loot. I have found two: one... had "nothing"-- zero loot spawn. The other, had 10x M24 sniper mags and some bandages which was pretty much useless to me. I've certainly done a lot of traveling as well, if they do become more prevalent I would imagine Rocket will fix it immediately as helos supposedly have the best weapons. -
Literal Pile of Loot in South Barracks?
Skeltah replied to damonxwind's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe loot spawns every 15 minutes provided the spawn location is cleared. This would explain the piles of equipment you will sometimes come across. Picture each of those loot spawn locations as an invisible weapon/ammo crate, with "X" amount of available space, which is repopulated with loot if there is available space every 15 minutes (maybe selectable as others mentioned?). As for the other questions about spawn times, keep in mind, there is always the chance that no loot spawns at all, however your empty cans and bottles have a pretty high chance. It is an exploit of the spawn script which "refills" the invisible weapon holders aka crates, however they do have to continually clear the area and protect it from players. The main problem I have with this, is that the weapon models; once there are a hundred+ laying around it will drop the server / client performance significantly in that area. People farm like that in any other MMO, and this mod seems to have that type of feel to it. Figures people would farm loot here as well. -
So many damn veteran servers!?!?
Skeltah replied to Mr Muggles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only difference I have noticed between recruit/regular and veteran, is that in recruit and regular servers, you have third person cross hairs, and name tags are on -- which means simply run your cursor over the hills in front of you, and suddenly player name tags will pop up. Once the name tag is up and they are in range of your weapon, regardless of whether you can see them or not, shoot a few rounds for an easy kill. There is no where to hide, camouflage is useless. On Veteran, sometimes there is no 3rd person cross hair, forcing iron sighting, and there are no name tags. So ... camouflage actually works, and they actually have to aim to shoot you. Makes sense eh? Using the weapon's sights certainly increases the difficulty. Any of the expert, hardcore are usually distasteful to me, forcing first person. Even with a field of few of 90+ it's still like running around with a bucket on your head which is highly obnoxious. Even though you can see your character in third person, your field of view is a lot more life like.... except for the fact you can see around corners (LoL). Anyhow, I believe if you understand how vulnerable you are in a recruit/regular server due to the name tags, you wouldn't play there (provided you have a 5+ day survivor). If you die all the time to zombies anyways it really doesn't matter. To me, the highest threat DayZ has to offer is other players, and if they can see my name tag even though they can't actually see me, there is a serious problem there. -
To the Group of 4 on US 88
Skeltah replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
... and I have yet to see a pair of NVGs after a few 10+ day survivors. But yes, continue your harassment, and as Cormac mentioned, break out the grenades! -

Sometimes they spawn loot, sometimes they do not. If the chopper you are at has no loot, move to another location, even if other players have been there, there is usually "something" left to dig through at least -- which should be an indicator of whether or not the particular chopper you are scoping has possible loot.

Do you ever feel guilty for shooting on site?
Skeltah replied to Sedated Dreamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have felt guilty one time, out of many player kills. It shouldn't be surprising that most people you encounter are in fact bandits whom have murdered at one point or another. A player with a Lee Enfield ran up on me and my buddy while we were looting the hospital in Elektro.. I knew he had only seen me, so I ducked behind the corner and told my buddy whom was still in the hospital to take him out. -- At that time I hadn't seen his gear, I only saw him sprinting at us. After we dropped him, we saw that he disconnected the server shortly after (I was thinking we might have been the only players he had seen during his game play, and go figure we killed him (Only 11 players on the server at that time)), and upon inspection of his equipment and supplies it was evident he had been in game for at most an hour. Anyhow, I did feel bad about it, but you are always better off safe than sorry on your 10+ Days survived characters. If you do approach someone, walk if you can, also make sure your weapon is down, and not pointed straight at them -- people usually end up dead that way, last I checked. -
Game breaking bugs need fixing ASAP!
Skeltah replied to james2464's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What "seems" to work for me, is ensuring I log on as flat of ground as I can find, and no where near trees. Otherwise, at times you will get dropped, and you will get hurt, or possibly killed as my fellow 15+ day survivor found the hard way. As far as the backpack save/revert, I ditched a 1911 I had in my pack like 5 times and the thing just kept coming back. Eventually it will get saved, who cares if you loose a few cans of beans or soda. PS: I would imagine this has been covered in the "Bug Reports" section... I've probably lost more than you've ever had in DayZ... quit your qq / demanding tone or do us all a favor and rage quit. -
A week Playing as a Non-combatant Medic.
Skeltah replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Provided you don't approach any players you don't know, sounds like fun... as for the latter.. 99% shoot on sight, or shortly there after regardless of dialog. -

Broken leg? No morphine? Very good
Skeltah replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for the Gear Terrorfex I was hurtin. Everything after 1.7.1.1 has certainly not made the game "better" -- "More Fun" -- "More Intense" It's almost like Rocket gave the code to somebody else who F'd it up. -
Can't find crashed helicopters.
Skeltah replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have seen them, you can find maps that will detail locations on the net. Sometimes they spawn good stuff... sometimes they spawn normal loot, sometimes just ammo like the one I encountered about an hour ago (10x magazines type deal). Suppose it could be a mix of the above as well, and it can also be nothing at all, which I have seen. They always spawn a good chunk of zeds. Have fun tracking them down and watch out for players. -
It's shoot on sight. Always will be. -- The greatest threat in this mod is other players. Your only hopes to form a solid group are on Ventrilo, Mumble, Roger Wilco, in game voice, some sort of voice communication and go from there. Anyone whom is not on your voice chat, no matter how harmless they look are a serious threat to you and your friends provided your trying to survive as long as possible. That is the sad fact of this mod, the sooner you realize it, the better off you will be. We don't purposely hunt people as many others do, were just trying to survive as long as possible, which means eliminating threats as they are presented. Chances are what will end our 10 day run is another player or players.

IRE1 - possible hacker? More "friendly fire" and instant respawns, video included
Skeltah replied to A Police Car's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have encounter a player with the exact same hack running. His name was Collusion. Ed: And yes, we smoked his ass two times within a minute and left. -
