Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

More +rep for Ben, was there to help on Friday when I first got into trouble (although RL meant we had to postpone) and there again when I came back still in need of help. Sorted me out with my transfusion and some cooked meat to keep me going for the meantime. Great help! Thanks very much.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

Sorry if I missed any replies guys, been away at Global Gathering all weekend. I'm still in the woods south-west of Putoshka needing a friendly who can give me a transfusion please. I'm carrying a blood bag for myself and have another spare I can pass on for the next survivor in need. I also have a couple of spare water bottles I can donate if needed. Edit: Contact me via Steam please, if you're able to help :) link in sig

I have a spare blood bag and bandage you can take if there's any chance you could help me out with a transfusion near Putoshka, Ben? Unfortunately that's it for medical supplies, but I also have a Glock 17 and 3 mags if you need a weapon.

Still looking for some kind soul who can give me a blood transfusion near Putoshka please. Bag provided :) You're not far from me, I don't know how quickly you're losing blood but if you can get to the forest south-west of Putoshka I can give you a couple of spare full water bottles I'm carrying.

If there's any chance you could give me a hand while you're up in the NW I can also donate a spare full water bottle to pass on to Gandraor.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

Hello again medics! I'm afraid my crossbow has gotten me into another sticky near-miss situation, I've managed to apply a bandage and morphine but I'm still in a bad way and in need of a blood transfusion near Putoshka. I can supply the blood-bag for myself, and I have a spare which I'll gladly donate for the next survivor in need. If anyone is able to help please add me on Steam (MercianUK) and we can discuss server and arrange a grid for the RV. Thanks!
  7. I like the subtle change for the need-system. Just like in real life, you don't know exactly how far from starving you are, you're just hungry - you don't know how much longer you have before you bleed out, you just feel faint. Numerical values are too impersonal. As for the zombie health and PvP damage, it might be nice to see that implemented in another game mode, but for the most part I like it the way it is. The realism is what makes DayZ so great. If you want to be able to run around shooting other players in the face while you're being peppered with 7.62 there's plenty of other games designed with that in mind. If any PvP damage needs adjusting let's make the .50 cal more realistic. Sod 'bleeding out' after one of those rips you in two. That said, the log-out timer I'm with you on. 100%.

Added Merino and he was with me in less than half an hour to help out with morphine and get me back on my feet. Can't thank you enough! Passed on a few cans to help out with the next patient. Brilliant work, keep it up! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and hopefully be able to return the favour at some point.

I'm in a bad way and could really do with a helping hand if someone can help me please? I have a broken leg and I'm down to 1000 blood. I'm holed up in the church in Putoshka, grid 031075. I haven't got anything valuable but I have plenty of spare .45 ACP ammo and some food and bandages I can offer by way of thanks, or you can have my crossbow or water bottle if you prefer. Once I'm back up on my feet I'll also be able to provide you with some cooked meat. Any help would be greatly appreciated! You can contact me on here or via Steam (MercianUK).
  10. Jesus, I'd be seriously scared of your rabbits!
  11. Well, since we're all being awkward  This is a gun: These are small arms : If someone is shooting at you with a gun, you've probably pissed them off more than you think!
  12. A very interesting read, and a point well argued. Thanks! At the moment I'm just surviving with my crossbow and tools, gathering loot and gear and working out a longer-term game plan. Can I see myself getting bored of this? Of course. As you've said, the bandit route is a viable option for enhanced rewards from the game. However another equally challenging alternative might be for me to return to the coast having completed my saga up north and attempt to coach new players and fresh spawns and guide them up north and protect them from bandit activity. Counter-sniping bandits around Cherno/Elektro might be another option but what's to stop being counter-sniped by another counter-sniper? Maybe this one isn't the best call :P All of my effort in-game at the moment is going into personal situational awareness and survival - and primarily trying to avoid armed players at all costs. Getting to the stage where I can afford to avoid those risks but putting myself back through them for the sake of helping another player sounds like a lot of fun.
  13. On my 2nd day of DayZ play now so I still have relatively little experience with the full arsenal available, but I've got to admit, I'm absolutely loving the crossbow! I've been strangely lucky finding bolts for it and there's nothing quite as satisfying as retrieving them after dropping any Zs that get in the way. I've been impressed with the revolver as well, much prefer it as a secondary to the Makarov, carrying one of those around with ~30 rounds at the moment for emergencies. I've managed to get together some basic survival tools as well: map; compass; water bottle; watch; Czech backpack; hatchet. Next top priority for me is ideally a knife so I can get hunting some meat and live off the land and lay low for a while. Playing alone and don't feel overly enthusiastic about taking on Cherno/Elektro (definitely not NWAF) and risking what I've got so far, especially after taking a 7.62 to the chest when I spawned there on an earlier life. Some NVGs and possibly a suppressed pistol would go down a treat though, assuming I could source ammo for it. How do you guys rate the crossbow? Since it's silent I've mostly been spotting my kills from a distance and then moving in to make the shot close-range, retrieving the bolt, snatching my loot and moving on. I can imagine it's not going to be practical in bandit territory, but if it comes to it I'm hoping situational awareness and my revolver will keep me alive if push comes to shove.

Where are the military tents at Balota?

South of the middle of the airfield, you can see them nice and clearly on this map.

Is it really that hard to find loot?

Spawned just outside Cherno for the first time today and decided to nip in to try to stock up, I managed to pick up a makarov and a mag before entering the city. I got lucky in my first house in the city and managed to pick up some camo clothes, a map and a bit of ammo. I was crawling past some Z's on my way to check out the hospital (had my tin can at the ready) and barely made it 5m out of that house before I took a 7.62 to the torso from god knows where. Game over :/ Doing pretty well on this new respawn though. In 2 hours I've managed to find a map, compass, watch and revolver with 30 rounds of ammo; absolutely no food or drink in the first 2 towns I stopped in though, looked like I was going to die of thirst but I got lucky just in time. Headed for a supermarket to try and find some food, thought I was going to starve on the way but just managed to survive - got there and found plenty of cyalumes and ammo but no food! Used some of the ammo to blat a few Zs in desperation and luckily managed to scrounge some sardines and pasta, then tabbed out of there as quickly as I could. Holing up for a while now, think I'm going to go after a decent primary weapon next if I can; started playing yesterday and still haven't managed to get hold of anything special. Doesn't help that I'm playing alone at the moment either.

No gun at respawn? Impossible for beginners

I started playing DayZ yesterday and have found no problem with the current weapon acquisition system. The extent to which coming into the world unarmed adds to the tension is absolutely astounding; it also gives you a massive sense of satisfaction when you finally do scavenge some weapons. I played for a few (~4) hours yesterday and went, in the space of a 3 lives, from knowing nothing about the mod do being able to survive and sustain myself relatively well within a fairly contained area. The longest of my lives started in Kamyshovo and lasted about 2 hours, at which point, unsure of what to do next, I got bored and attempted to take on the horde  However, in that time I had managed to accumulate a tent (pity the terrain was too rough to place it), a roll of razor wire, a makarov and ~6 mags. I also found more road flares and cyalumes than I could carry, more than enough food and drink to survive (although food was a lot scarcer than drink), a water bottle, a hatchet, some wood, a few mags of AK ammo, an M249 ammo box, a DMR mag and a mag of NATO 5.56. (( In other lives I also managed to find a double-barreled shotgun, a crossbow and several more hatchets. Weapons are not hard to find if you're looking in the right places. )) I started off sneaking around the village checking each and every building, discovering loot spots - I didn't even know about this map at this point so was going entirely off my own back. I started off picking up everything I found, mostly empty tins to start with, and replacing it as I found better gear. I was surprised how much the using cans helped me to get around the village. My initial helplessness and vulnerability gave me a much greater sense of achievement from my scavenging, taught me as a new DayZ player to appreciate and understand the importance of stealth and I also feel that it helped support my interactions with other players. I was pretty open towards other players and generally approached them (cautiously of course) and offered any help I could. This principle was largely based on the understanding that the worst they could probably do at the time would be to shine their flashlight in my eyes, if I'd known they were armed I would've been far more inclined to keep my distance for as long as possible. In my first life all I managed to find at first was a hatchet and several bandages, though I still paired up with another survivor. Although neither of us could communicate, I protected him with the hatchet and bandaged his wounds until we managed to find him the crossbow in a nearby barn. That's when I fell down the stairs and broke my leg and he left me for dead, but still :P Thoroughly enjoying the mod so far, and looking forward to more high-level content now that I understand the game loot mechanics a bit better and know about the map. I'm expecting my player interactions to change a lot once the stakes are raised, but that's all part of the fun! In the meantime let the people who are crawling around the coast trying to find some pasta help each other out while they're all still amicable. The last thing they should have to worry about a 7.62 hitting them from 800m away, or some trigger happy lunatic running up off the beach and peppering them with his revolver. TL;DR: Leave people unarmed at spawn. Weapons are easy enough to find. Let PvP be an end-game concern.
