Or they could set up a series of cases to run checks and see whether the user left voluntarily, whether the server restarted or there was a connection lost. It's quite irritating joining a server and it restarts almost as soon as I join, thus having to wait 5 minutes.

Like HrkiGV said, there's a 50/50 chance with fresh spawns as there is not with two geared guys bumping in to each other. (Nice to see you post something other than the word ALPHA by the way). Every player counter I've had has resulted in a death, UNLESS that player really needs something such as ammo, if it's food they need then they'll just shoot. It's sad to see, but I pretty much kill on sight now which I thought I would never do. I'm not attached to my gear, I just don't feel the need to die every time I encounter a geared player that I can't avoid. Even if I can avoid the player, I tend to push myself toward them because it's only a matter of time before they're they ones watching me, most of which won't turn around and walk away like I sometimes do. Congrats on losing your "virginity" OP, expect plenty more. Draft up a map on Photoshop of "Red-Zones" or "kill on sight" zones to limit yourself and understand what's friendly and what isn't, I propose adding Elektro and ALL airfields/military bases to that map.

Irony. The M4 is much more accurate than what it is in DayZ and you're right, we are survivors in game and not military educated; but how exactly do people become "experts" in shooting weapons?, Yeah, by training and using weapons.

I'd love to see that work and happen. I was playing the other day and I saw one guy in Elektro with an M4, I had a pistol with no ammo, broken legs after glitching out of a house and needed morphine; I aimed my pistol at him immediately and began shouting "Put the fucking gun down" along with "I'm friendly, I do not want to shoot anybody". His friend came around the corner then so I dropped my gun and his friend came over towards me taking handcuffs out. As soon as I saw the cuffs I took my axe out and whacked him on the head killing him. I've seen what happens when the cuffs are on, I ran up to help a guy one of my group members had previously cuffed until that guys friend began shooting all of us. I'm not wasting 10 minutes or so just to entertain two people by doing the same old shit that has always been done, force-feeding disinfectant. -

As for the OP, quit your moaning and attention seeking; I have yet to see a hacker and I know at least 30 people who have yet to see a hacker also. So what you fell victim to one hacker, list ONE single PC Multiplayer game that has absolutely ZERO hackers or cheaters. -

I saw another user post it, can't remember who, it is posted quite bluntly; however it sticks out. I don't think Dean Hall expected so much Kill On Sight as what is in the game now, that's why certain items were implemented to introduce a new style to the game; such as force feeding, handcuffs, burlap sacks etc. Now instead everybody would rather axe their way to death rather than get handcuffed. -
Once there is no firearm then shooting on sight is out of the question for me, personally I'd get you to a safe place whilst my snipers scout the area to make sure it's not a trap, the rest of my group would move up with me in a formation to cover all grounds if engaged. Once we are certain that it is not a trap and there is no immediate danger; then we'll help you out with medical treatment or to see if you needed any firearms or escorting. 99% of the time we wouldn't take anything off a fresh spawn unless that fresh spawn tried to attack us and was killed, then we would spare out the food and what not.

I have no idea what I'd build, can't decide until it's implemented. -

As always, a thread that had potential has turned in to a complete flame war of opinions versus opinions. Caps locking "ALPHA" isn't going to solve anything, it's only going to make you look like a complete idiot with high expectations; the reality is that even when the game is complete it will be the same. It was nice at the start when people worked together as they figured out the ropes, but now that everybody knows where to find loot, everybody is pretty much shooting on sight and killing all of the time. I am not going to make myself "high and mighty", I shoot on sight if the person is geared or has a firearm of any kind because I've come to realize that if it's not them, it's me; and that's the mentality that is killing the game. Saying ALPHA isn't going to mean or change anything because at the final product there will STILL be that level of paranoia which causes everybody to shoot on sight as soon as there is contact and that isn't going to turn around. Very rarely will there be friendly meetings unless it's with a fresh spawn, who 90% of the time now only seem to run away playing the "I'm deaf so I can't hear you" game; which personally only pisses me off for putting myself at risk and trying to help them, so I consider shooting them for being idiots. I find myself shooting and killing more times now than I help because everybody I see is always geared up, It's been at least 2 months since I seen a fresh spawn that needed help. So I agree with you OP, while the game does provide some entertainment and a lot of enjoyment depending on the time and scenario; I think it will never be the game we wish it will be, no matter how many timers or restrictions are put in. Then again there's only a certain level of timers and restrictions that can be put in before things get ridiculous. That's just my 2-tins, I know people are going to rage, have their hemorrhoids explode and begin shouting "ALPHA, ALPHA, ITS ALPHER!!!!!!!!!!!! " Go ahead. -

You get the feeling when somebody is near by. I was looting Balota while ago being very cautious, 2 bullets loaded in the double rifle and a baseball bat on my back, I got lucky at Cherno firestation and found some camo clothing with a DPM vest. Whilst in one of the sleeping quarters at Balota I heard a very unusual "smashing glass" sound followed by a zombie run, I looked around and after killing the zombie I put it down to "bugged ambient sounds" like we had at the start of the Alpha so I continued looting. I entered the second parallel barracks and seen that the last door was open whilst every other door in the airfield was closed, I moved down with my weapon aimed and a guy jumped on the ground right in front of me, I held Caps Lock and got as far as saying "Don't" before he opened fire, I put both rounds in to his head whilst he was prone and killed him, then went on to say things like "I wasn't going to fucking shoot you" and "There was an M4 in the next room you could have had if you didn't shoot, fucking idiot". Anyway, after that I put the pieces together; the "smashing glass" sound I heard earlier was that guy trying to shoot through the glass and kill me (Glass is bulletproof for some reason), and at some point during the realization that I should have been dead at least 10 minutes ago but wasn't (I felt quite good knowing that); this song below came on in my playlist and I enjoyed the moment as I ran toward Zelenogorsk, fully geared up with pristine M4 and ACOG. Paranoia gets you in good places ;)

I was running from Kamyshovo to Elektrozavodsk, I saw the usual black body laying face down on the way And then I saw this almost parallel to the body, on the road. Afterwards I laughed the entire way to Elektro at how the clothes were neatly stacked upon each other.

I forgot to say that, private hives have always been the fix in my eyes but 90% of the player-base bitch and moan about private hives, probably because those 90% combat log. Are private hives in? Is there many servers? First time playing in a few months.

You want to know what's worse? Two server hoppers log in at the Command Tower at the North East Airfield, one on the command floor and one up the first set of stairs. I axe one to the head and kill him, I hear the second log in so I run up stairs and begin whacking him too when he's standing there. Ever read the posts about the bullshit lag DayZ gets where you can't open doors, jump or do ANYTHING whatsoever for 5-10 minutes? Or those lag spikes where the game rubber-bands your character or mouse that were supposed to be fixed but aren't? Yeah, those; it's lucky for server hoppers when you are a major victim of that but it happens at the wrong time. Long story short, it ends up with one server hopper dead, the vigilante (me) stuck in a lag spike and thus being presented with the "You Are Dead" screen once the lag spike is over, hence lag spikes only affect certain and not all people which is a major issue due to compromising gameplay for certain players; an issue which doesn't even seem to be acknowledged; instead put down to "Bad internet". Well I'm on 200/10, my internet works beautifully on every little task I do, every little game I play, my downloads happen within seconds and yet when I play DayZ I suffer severe problems with packet transferal. --Update-- As I have said time and time again, there is NO solution to server hopping, combat logging or ghosting. No matter how many timers you put in, people can always log out one day and log in the next in that position, they could wait the amount of time or even a couple of hours until the server restarts. THERE IS NO FIX!.

I am not with or against KOS personally, but take all of your shit elsewhere such as the main KOS thread; this guy is advertising his server where he encourages and enjoys a certain play style; nobody on these forums will change their game style just because you can all write 5 paragraphs of shit. Shut the fuck up, thank you very much. Meatshield, I will hit up your server at some point and I will gun you down haha, I look forward to playing there. Is it first or third person? -
As far as the mod goes, that can never be copyrighted to the extent of seeking legal action under any event as it is developed completely with BI tools, as is the standalone; but with the standalone there are more conceptual features belonging to Dean which could have been copyrighted or patented, for example; "Patent #001: A idea or concept based around survival horror which features objects such as x y and z". Obviously, not described like that, but there could be things in the game that are copyrighted; I've personally seen stuff like that before and worked with info such as that. As for the last part, I hope BI respect Deans work and try not to hog it all to themselves.
