great devblog! only one thing: sky still looks too blue.

Imagine having suitcases in the standalone. They would act as an additional storage besides your backpack, only that it limits your hands. (you could only use a handgun or knife while carrying) You have do drop it first to be able pull your primary gun out. When dropped on the ground, you can open it up (like the car trunks in the standalone video) and see its content. This could lead to awesome situations, like tense trade situations, etc... Also: maybe also plastic bags! those have only small inventory slots, and get easily damaged / degrade fast, but are rather common to find. would also limit your hands while carrying. Would be nice if they code the engine in a way so its possible stuff like this can be added..

that's why i mentioned mount&blade

the thing is: the above system can still also be very simple. You could still just wildly click left mouse btn and thus hit with your weapon. Your character would just randomly slash/hack. The only difference would be that if you encounter someone with better meele skills, u might lose a fight. So simple meele for those who just want to hack away their zombies, and something to master for those who seek it. It works really well in Mount&Blade:Warband. You can march into battle with zero knowledge and just swing your blade around, no problem. But if you meet someone who is really trained, you have to pack some skillz into your moves, look what he is doing and dodge his tactics. so everyone could be happy and we have some deep fantastic shit going on here...

Since the meele system is beeing reworked right now, maybe it'd be good to gather your current ideas & thoughts on this topic here. Wouldn't it be good to see a meele system similar to Mount&Blade:Warband or the Elder scrolls Series? So we could have directional attacks. So you have different attacks depending on mouseclick+ the direction you move your mouse. F.e.: -click+mouse move left/right = swing to the left/right -click+mouse move up = stab -click+mouse move down = hack Also how long you click&hold down should affect the whole thing. I'd imagine holding down the click resembles how far you reach out before swinging, thus making the blow harder & more effective. Also: Parring & Blocking. There should be a block key. (right mouse button for meele weapons?) Applying the same directional rules like attacking, you have to move your block into the direction of the oncoming attack to effectively block it. So if an attack swing is coming from the right, you have to block to the right in time to block it, otherwise you get hit. EDIT: the above system can still also be very simple. You could still just wildly click left mouse btn and thus hit with your weapon. Your character would just randomly slash/hack. The only difference would be that if you encounter someone with better meele skills, u might get in trouble. Just like in RL. Everybody with a sword can be serious danger. But if he meets somebody who actually has some tactics on how to use it, he will have a hard time. So simple meele for those who just want to hack away their zombies, and something to master for those who seek it. It works really well in Mount&Blade:Warband. You can march into battle with zero knowledge and just swing your blade around, no problem. But if you meet someone who is really trained, you have to pack some skills into your moves, look what he is doing and dodge his tactics. so everyone could be happy and we have some deep fantastic meele system going on here... Meele fights could really become something where people can show skill & tactics opposed to just "who clicks the fastest wins". waddaya all think? What's your ideas?

Rocket already stated that ammo and guns will be much rarer to find in the standalone, which I think is great. How would you think it would be an ideal balance and why? I'd like to have it like this: super rare military stuff rare hunting rifles etc some pistols & revolvers . of all gunpowder guns i think they should be the most common rare ammo. you most of the time just run around with like 5 bullets for your revolver left. You really have to think about when you spend them, if it would pay off. also i want to see people hold up other people at gunpoint with an empty gun, just pretending they got ammo. Ammo rarity would just make things so much more interesting! on the other hand we could have Lots of everyday tools like hammers, saws, axes, sticks, etc.so most survivor groups would run around armed with meele weapons, and only a few of them carry guns. chernarus should reflect a normal country and not a warzone where everybody had military weaponry at home before the zombie outbreak. If you have got a pistol with little ammo you are under the better-equiped. what's your opinion?

If you could have one custom clothing item in Standalone, what would it be?
ponc replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
a dark brown leather coat. and a dark brown leather head. -

-
Do you remember the first time you played Dayz?
ponc replied to Agent36's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First time was on a server @night, with a bug that no zombies spawned anywhere. I ran around cherno and spotted some dudes with flares looting buildings. hided and shot the one of their group with the best gun. they paniced. got shot. -
July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"

You should talk to the guys at Taleworlds Entertainment (Mount&Blade:Warband = pure medieval awesomeness!!). They have the most beautiful, fluid and realistic horse animation ingame. Much better then oblivion etc, -
Most people will have some kind of disease in Dayz. We should be prepared for a shitstorm of complaints

what u mean? -
it won't be as much KoS as it is now. Why? Because: .)Guns much more rare .)Military stuff even rarer .)Ammo also really rare, you'll think twice about every bullet you spend .)much more complex possible complications you can run into when engaging a firefight .)much more complex game mechanics that bring the need to cooperate with others, f.e. the medic stuff. .)complex diseases, you can't always carry around ALL the medical equipment you need to cover EVERY possible disease. So you need to also meet with others and exchange. .)much more people on the map, but also scattered more about the whole map (because of also interesting things in the north) .)this way you can't never feel alone again, giving shots also in small towns is too risky that others could hear it. .)more ways to communicate, be it more hand signals, or the radios, or other new features. that's just SOME of the new factors that come into play

yeah, diverse kind of mushrooms, of which some are edible, and some are poisonous o r hallucinogenic.

Will anyone else play KOS in SA when it comes out?

Ok here is why I think there will be less KoS in SA: Because: .)Guns much more rare .)Military stuff even rarer .)Ammo also really rare, you'll think twice about every bullet you spend .)much more complex possible complications you can run into when engaging a firefight .)much more complex game mechanics that bring the need to cooperate with others, f.e. the medic stuff. .)complex diseases, you can't always carry around ALL the medical equipment you need to cover EVERY possible disease.
