Unless real consequences for killing others is implemented, people will shoot you. It's that simple. In other games I have played with open PvP, there are usually consequences for being a "murderer", usually similar to having a certain amount of murders flag your appearance or imparting some level of punishment, like stat loss on respawn for an amount of time that decays depending on how many murders performed. Not that I advocate this type of mechanic in this game. It's a pretty good setting for the "kill or be killed" dynamic.

Go inland more; you will get shot hanging around too much in the southern shoreline. Barns (big green dots or diamonds on the loot map I linked below) are good places for starter weapons or ammo. Use this map: http://dayzdb.com/map

Get good with a map: http://dayzdb.com/map -
This game is really, really hard and the zombies are super zombies. Half of the game is not being spotted by zombies, or running from zombies, shooting zombies without pulling more. It is sometimes REALLY frustrating. I would say hang in there, it gets better once you learn how to work around towns full of undead. You always, always want to work through a town mostly prone, preferably in slow prone over the concrete or asphalt areas. And when you are in a building, you need to move slowly (hold down SHIFT), or you will make too much noise and attract zombies. Also make sure to pick an out-of-the-way area to get your initial loot, like a small town or the occasional barn along the roads. Get a good map. (I use: http://dayzdb.com/map) Formulate a plan at all times, ALWAYS have a plan, and execute that plan. The game is 1,000x better if you play with a friend. And trust no one. KoS everyone you don't know. Once you get the hang of it, you will see how good a game this really is.

Hi, I am running 1.7.1.5, and I have not run into an issue like this until today: Usually, I can aim down the sights of my rifle by pressing RMouse once, but this is not happening. It still zooms in if I hold RMouse, but sighting in my weapon will no longer work with RMouse. I have tried restarting, defaulting controls but nothing helps. Any ideas? Thanks. Neves

Thanks for the response, Synix. I tried this on yoru advice, and it did not resolve the problem. I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling the mod...
