    Ebb and Flow?

Yes, tides are modelled in the engine since the launch of OFP. Though I seem to remember back in those days there was a bug that made the difference of the sea level between both fairly low. However, if they had fixed it, large parts of the islands would have been flooded. Not sure whether this has ever been changed in one of the sequels.

    Character bound to server?

Just some not playing style related reasons: - server runs wrong patch version - server full - server offline - server discontinued by the host Other reasons: - "distributing risks" from above by having tents on different servers - server at wrong time (night?) - playing with friends that happen to be on a different server And yes, I play only one character at a time.

How did you discover Day Z?

I play the BIS games since 2001 - following the forums and seeing the hype I eventually thought I should give DayZ a try, and I actually like it.
  4. I think staying 5 seconds after a disconnect should be enough - too many valid reasons to disconnect and too much can happen in 1 minute, even in a place you thought is safe. And reallife interrupts are often of the nature that you don't have 5 mins to find such a safe place. I actually like the idea to take Zeds with you to the respawn that was meant to come with 1.7.2, but was skipped due some other exploit. Regarding server hopping, there are a number of valid reasons, (in the meaning of living your v-life on more than one server, not binding it to a single server) Just some not playing style related reasons: server runs wrong patch version server full server offline server discontinued by the host Other reasons: "distributing risks" from above by having tents on different servers server at wrong time (night?) playing with friends that happen to be on a different server To fight excessive server hopping, the re-login might be delayed, maybe depending on how long you were active before, like >60mins => 1min delay; not much more than now anyway ;) 45-60mins => 2min 30-45mins => 3mins 15-30mins => 4mins <15mins => 5mins

    FPS Dropping Randomly

I experienced the same yesterday - usually I get >40FPS and an occasional drop to maybe 30FPS. Yesterday it temporarily went down to ~15FPS - I stayed anyway on, all the time inside one of the long white stables, picking of Zeds with "spare ammo" and a Winchester I found inside. Eventually, after a minute or two, it fixed itself, did not disconnect, Alt-Tab or anything.

    [DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!

On "established" players, e.g. >10h alive, I'd like to have some stats, on how many different servers do they play e.g. as histogram of percentage of time spent on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, >6 servers [*]how many personal tents do they have on how many different servers [*]infected kills [*]murders [*]bandit kills [*]how often did they successfully log in to a server [*]a histogram of the duration of their sessions (e.g. <5mins, <15mins, <30mins, <45mins, <60mins, <90mins, <120mins, <180mins, >180mins) How long do virtual lifes last, as a histogram, <15mins, <30mins, <1h, <2h, <3h, <5h, <10h, <20h, <50h, <100h, >100h overall currently alive (taking high risks early, to starvation, to "established" survivor)On servers (maybe separated by small, medium and big servers), how many different players log in successfully (not stuck on loading) on a given server in 1 day in 1 week [*]with how many successful logins (same players log in multiple times on the same server, be it vile disconnects, or just lunch breaks... On tents, how many tents total how many tents of all active players average of how many pitched tents per server for any tent, how many tents are in a vincinity of 100m/1km on the same server (camps) on all servers (favorite camp sites)
  7. For a rather obvious reason it should be an island - no more worries about off-map camps.
  8. There are many reasons why binding a character to a server are bad, - server full - server offline - server discontinued - server not updated - happens to be night at the server when i have time to play ... Oh and of course, it is actually a distinct feature that makes the game so attractive, and not just because the feature can be exploited!
  9. And it should not always spawn right at the server start, but at a random time after it. Probalby best make one spawn over the sea, let it fly to its "destination" and let it crash "live" - now imagine the run to the crash site by the people that heard/saw the crash, and the tension when you get closer. Edit: might note in the few weeks that I play now I haven't seen one either yet...
  10. You seem to see only the reasons to exploit the system for server hopping. I am hopping servers fairly often, for various reasons: - spawing in at night the GMT/UTC are not always reliable and I might also play at different times; as long as I don't have NVGs my characters sleep at night. But as I want to play and that with daylight, I might have to hopp until i find a daytime server. - carry stuff from one server to another I don't host my own server, so I put up tents on different servers and in different locations to make sure that I have access to some of my stuff when I play. Reason for multiple servers, again playing in daytime, downtime, wrong version, discontinuation, full server,... E.g. yesterday I carried over some morphine from a tent on a server that is still running at 93825. - dropped out for various reasons (e.g. kicked for ping, server restart,...) Something i wouldn't mind is a delay, could also depend on how long you were active on the previous server, e.g. played >15mins => 30secs delay, <5min => 5min delay. Some of my reasons above are also good reasons against binding characters to a server or forcing a respawn in a different location. I don't see why you would penalize a player by respawning at a random location, even if it is in a limited radius around the logout location - or even worse at the beach. I see quite some people quit out of frustration if a 7 days character spawned on the beach and was killed by a spawn camper.
