    First Impressions....

The tins are everywhere, and if you go inland with a knife and matches, your backpack will be stuffed with enough meat to feed a T-Rex. I seriously cannot explain why you're having food trouble other than to speculate on a massive string of bad luck.

    Just a few questions!

Once you've got yourself a nice weapon, backpack, and navigational & hunting accessories, there isn't a whole lot left to do besides sit around in the woods until old age takes you. At some point I'd like to see more options implemented for players who get to that stage, sort of like how achieving a high level on a MMO takes you out of the kiddy sandbox and raises the stakes with sieges and raids. Don't have any specific suggestions though, I'll leave that for wiser heads than mine.
  3. Nope. Your water and food icons will slowly continue to degrade as you're logged out, but they will never get below the flashing phase until you log in.
  4. It's not part of the game, it IS the game. Yeah if the world went to hell, there would be bandits. But not this many. There are more bandits in DayZ than there are in Skyrim. We need more encouragement to team up.

    Dying of Thirst or Hunger

I wouldn't go inland until I've picked up at least one extra water bottle. Either acquire a map in-game, print one off, or break out the one provided in your Arma II Anniversary Edition (mwhaha!) and plan your route carefully by taking the lakes into consideration. Thirst is at it's most dangerous when people forget it's a threat at all.

PVP - Spawn Points and Safe havens

If this were any other area I might agree and start a 42 page rant, but we're talking about the NW airfield here - the biggest PvP hotzone in the game. Don't bother trying to create a safe haven there unless you've already got an organised group of badass dudes. It's no good trying to form a group spontaneously over the chat, the snipers will put a stop to it because they don't want you to have control over those resources. And because they think it's hilarious.
  7. I tried. I really tried to use first-person, but it can't be done. I can't tell what my character's stance is, most light sources are now completely useless (as if playing in the dark wasn't hard enough?) and on top of all that, my eyeballs are vomiting from the shaky camera (I can't watch 3D movies either). Motion-sickness is not rare, and when that unpleasant experience is being given to me in the name of immersion, I'd say immersion has been taken too far.

    DayZ Update 1.4.23

So basically the game is now unplayable for me. I always use third-person in these games, even when it makes aiming more difficult. It's what I'm comfortable with, and most importantly it allows me to see my character and his actions. Sure the third-person view enhances my sight, but have you ever asked why that needed to be enhanced in the first place? I certainly can't 'feel' what I'm doing in a video game. My receptors cannot feel the gun in my hands, nor does my back ache from the weight of a heavy pack. I have only two senses - sight and sound. In first-person those limited senses are having a hell of a time telling if I'm crouched, how I'm moving, or what I've got equipped.

    A Personal Observation

Thus far I have never complained when I was shot for my gear. I simply don't have any tolerance for costal town snipers picking off respawned characters for giggles.

    Would you kill a bandit?

Running towards me? I'd shoot him in the face, several times. Running at another player is something you don't do in the normal survivor skin, let alone a bandit skin. When I come across someone, I politely announce my presence over the chat and slowly emerge from cover after it has been established I'm not hostile. Running at someone silently is suspicious and can also get you tagged as a zombie.
  11. I don't know if this reputation system will work out, but I do know something needed to be done before Day Z's 'elite' player base drove everyone else away.
