I've returned to DayZ after a time away. I've downloaded Sixupdater as per the download page's instructions but it does not seem to work as simply as it seems like it should. I tried DayZ commander to see if this would be any better - it seemed much more straightforward, however after using it to download and install the update for ArmA2, the revision has reverted to "87580" and will not move from this even though I repeatedly update. Stranger still, DayZCommander seems to think Arma2 is 'Up to date'. Every time I try to run DayZ through DayZ commander I get the 'error creating direct3d 9 graphical engine' message. Any help? I had DayZ running fine before these automated updaters were introduced. Now it is very difficult to see exactly what is going wrong.

Hi, Can I confirm that any issues with the server are now resolved? It seems one of the DayZ team had a look and restarted the server during the day (Thanks guys!). UK1 is now 40 slots down from 50 - I can only assume this is to aid stability after a few issues that have been occuring. If there are any issues I can be contacted via email, and I check here as often as I possibly can. Hope this is ok - apologies for any inconvenience! -RoaR

Hi everyone. Sorry for the delay in my reply, RL commitments have kept me away from DayZ since early in the weekend. I've had several IM's and emails regard in the password on UK1. I personally have had no sight of this at all - I checked on the server today the moment I got in from work and all seemed to be well. I had noticed that the server has been changed to 40 slots down from 50. This was something I had spoken with the DayZ devteam but had not gotten around to doing myself. The only ones with access to the server are myself and the DayZ team. From what I can gather, the password was placed on the server during the time that the server was being tested, updated and looked at, as I had reported having problems with stability during the week (thanks for taking the time to look at this for my by the way, guys!) I have not, and will not ever put a password on UK1 except in the most extreme of situations. I will never be demanding anything for the running of the server. As I mentioned in my original post. I would imagine the same would be said for the DayZ team, as they have as much, if not more interest in keeping the server up as everyone else :) I apologise to anyone who was inconvenienced by the server being passworded during this time and will attempt to ensure any further outages are as brief as possible.

Hi. I understand that this may well be a server/Arma2 issue rather than anything to do with DayZ, but I'm wondering if you guys could take a look anyway. I host UK1 on a Kimsufi 16G, the specs are: CPU: Intel i5 Quad 2.66 GHz RAM: 16 GB HDD: 2 TB B/W: 10 TB The server has been up around a week now. During that time I've logged on atleast once every 12 hours to try to keep an eye on things, and noticed that more than half the time the server is down when I check in on it. When I remote in I'm met with the "Arma 2 has encountered an error and needs to close" error message. From what I've seen it looks like it crashes after atleast 4 or at most 24/36 hours of uptime. I've been hoping this is just a teething issue and would only happen once or twice, however it seems like that isn't the case. My only real thoughts are that the server currently has 50 slots, and that it might be more stable if it only had 30. To this end I will probably take it down to that the next time it crashes. Other than this pretty major issue the server runs just fine - decent ping, little-to-no db sync issues, no D/Cs. I guess I was just hoping that someone else had come across this and knew where to look for likely sources of trouble. Any help much appreciated.

Hi everyone, The UK1 server seems to be up and stable now - it costs me £61 a month to host. Currently I am paying this myself, because I think DayZ is worth it and I honestly enjoy playing it. However, if anyone would like to donate something to the running of the servers, I really apprecaite it and it would mean alot if I could keep this server going for as long as people want it. If not, thats fine too :) Thanks either way. (I will hire more servers if/when donations allow me to do so.)

Seems the server had trouble at 2am-ish last night, its back up and working now. I'll keep an eye on it throughout the day and look into it if there are any more problems.

DayZ UK 50-slot server is now up and running, cheers for all the help DayZ Devteam! I'm toying with the idea of setting up a TS3 server but to be honest, the existing 512-man 'unnofficial dayz' one should do for now! First time doing anything with remote boxes - I guess you could call this a learning experience! :D Anyway - any problems with the server please let me know, I'll be checking in here as often as possible.

This is a great idea - rewards for higher humanity ratings would be great and if they were good enough might solve alot of the PK problem.

http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=297&pid=2533#pid2533 Something that has probably already been pointed out several times, yet I can't see a thread discussing it. If Day Z continues to grow as it seems obvious it will, then sooner or later the demands of so many requests on a single database will cause problems? It also seems to me like this is a massive single point of fail. Why not seperate the servers into different domains, as was suggested in the link above? This should surely improve performance across the board? I will admit that this is really easy to talk about and not so easily implemented, but perhaps worth discussing before it becomes a critical problem?

respawn as zombie option (please close)

I dislike this idea - I think zombies should stay dumb. Fighting zombies right now is a good experience. You need to be careful but if your skills and drills are good then you should be ok. I think if we start bringing in player zombies who're really smart and tricky and do unzombie-like stuff then it will ruin alot of the atmosphere. I like the feeling of 'us' against 'them' with the zombies - even if many survivors are just as much, if not more than a threat than the zombies, it still feels very much like the zombies are a sort of 'faceless' enemy. Also, the idea of having to play a zombie would really, really spoil it. Not something I want to do. At all! Oh - and if you want revenge on PK'ers, PK them! -
The great thing about DayZ, for me, is that there are so many different random encounters. With NPC zombies, with bandits, with other survivors. The different situations I find myself in range from really tense to stupidly funny :) So lets share random tales of what has happened to you ingame. I'll go first: For me - its a confession. I killed a mate today :( We were in a rough trio going through cherno - Craig, Marty and me - when someone started firing at us with a silenced weapon, we all split up and I was hunting the bandit. So I killed one, but he had no silenced weapons - so there must be another one, right? I roam around, shoot a few zombies, then go to look for ammo at the firestation... and as I walk up someone with a long rifle walks out in the other direction. Friend, foe? Everyone knows that sort of indecisive moment I think. I was *sure* it was the rogue bandit... even so I knew there were friendlies around... so I hid myself behind a corner and asked if they are friendly over voice and even typed "Friendly???" several times... but he turns round. he walks towards the corner I'm hiding behind. Surely anyone would've stopped and said 'yep, friendly!', right? He keeps coming ! So I'm sure its the bandit... he gets right to my corner and I'm waiting, looking through my sights, I jump out and empty a magazine into him..... only to see "Craig killed". He must have misunderstood. :( R.I.P. Craig :( I'm sorry I shot you!.
