Can't get past "Wait for host" screen
psylnz replied to shizno897's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Ok, I used the Worrom Dayz Updater this morning and I got connected no problem. This afternoon I tried it, and I got stuck on "wait for host" like the rest of you. So I tried the Six Updater, and it patched me again, but I still couldn't join any servers. Went back to the Worrom Updater, and I can join servers, but the visuals are screwed up; Everything is lit up for one second, then everything fades out to complete black, and stays that way for five seconds. Then everything lights up again, over and over. Completely unplayable. -
I don't like them either. I see they're useful function, and probable intention - for people want to build safe zones and camps; But they more often they just wind up being used to secure permium loot. In essence, these are the fences for loot farmers; Instead of server hopping, they can set up fences to secure the goods, and just keep checking back later when the loot respawns. Eveybody else in game is SOL. Really they just become more things for servers to have to keep track of. I'd rather see this stuff go, and to increase the max player count per server.

Could fix any number of variables. Zombies have to provide some challenge. However when we start off with no weapon, and zeds are super easy to aggro, and near impossible to lose unless you can run through the right building without aggroing more on the other side of it, something has to give.

Lost all items because I wore a ghillie suit.

Crap i found one of these today, but didn't put it on. Looks like itl'll be in the pack for awhile yet, lol -
I don't know what the spawn rate is, but I ran into something like this in Prigorodky, which is bascially just a farm east of Cherno. killed 44 zeds before I ran out of bullets and was killed. No way should there have been 44 zeds in that area. Maybe have it so that each zombie corpse on the ground means one zombie that can't respawn in that area until the corpse fades out. This should cause less stress on servers. Set the corpse fade out to something like 10-20 minutes.

Ok here's my info * 2 Steam copies of the game (seperate steam accounts, seperate ArmA2 licenses), on the same PC. * Running ArmA 2 OA beta patch (not sure which one, patched about two weeks ago) * Launching through Steam and Worrom's DayZ mod updater v1.61 * I have two steam accounts, and two copies of ArmA2. I can play my first copy on my desktop, no problem, works fine. With this account I can play ArmA2, DayZ, or OA. I log out of steam and back in with the other account, on the same PC, and while I can play ArmA2 no problem, when I try to start DayZ or Operation Arrowhead, I get the error message "error creating direct 3d 9 graphical engine" * PC Specs - i7 975 extreme, quad core 3.33ghz, 12gb ram, ATI 5970 2gb dual gpu. * Windows 7 Anybody got any ideas??

Tried applying the patch in the new account. Did not work. Tried one server and spawned on the beach, all my stuff gone. Tried another server and Spwaned back where I had left off with my stuff. Let me clarify again - I have two steam accounts, and two steam copies of Arma 2/Operation Arrowhead. When I did this with left for dead, it was no problem. Log on as me, play left 4 dead as me. Log on as her, and she plays it on her account. But with ArmA it keeps trying to log me on as Psylnz, no matter which steam account I use. One is set up for my girlfriend. When I go to her account, the new one, I can't get OA to work. Both the six updater, and the worrom updater will log me in as Psylnz. Has anyone else had anyluck running two steam and two arma accounts on the same pc?

For all the things I do complain about in this game - lack of start weapon, ease of zombie aggro, I've never found sniper rifles worth complaining about. I'm almost positive the only one that has ever gotten me was the CZ. Someone sniping still has to see you to shoot you, and there's plenty of cover to be had. Few have the patience to actually play well as sniper. I've died trying to shoot a guy up close cause I had a sniper rifle, I've taken one off a guy with makarov easily, and once, after spawning without a weapon, I put the run to a sniper by aggroing a zed, getting them to follow me, running around the sniper and losing the zeds as they started chasing him. Yeah unless you have a love of walking through wide open fields, I don't see much need to fear a sniper. See one, close the distance with cover, and come up from behind.

v1.7.2 Aggros zombies much more then usual?
psylnz replied to resausk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I say take the broken bone thing out til the reasons you get them are fixed. One hit from a crawler zombie and I had brokend leg today. I walked from the backroom to the front room of a supermarket today and my leg broke - along with this zombie thing was there an outbreak of osteoperosis in Chenarus? I'm not going to spend an hour crawling to a hospital in a video game in hope of finding an unlikely drop of morphine. As for my previous comment, I stand by the need for at least a weak melee weapon. I regularly will play about half an hour with no weapon, and usually die before I find one. Very furstrating. -
It's a toss up. On one hand if you let people spawn closer to their friends, death ends up having less in game meaning. On the other hand, the way this game is set up now, it discourages grouping. Your friend dies and respawns on the other side of the map, and it's going to take them 45 minutes or more to run back to you. That may be fine for us gaming addicts who will spend 8 hours+/per day playing video games. But to the average joe who can only sink an hour or two a night into video games, DayZ becomes something they just don't have the time for. (off topic the same idea could be applied to spawning with no weapon at all). If it were my call, I'd say let the player roughly choose their beach spawn zone. Thus if you want to hang with your pals, stick near the coast and you won't have to respawn too far away, and its great for Bandits too, as they'll have more targets in the same area. It would liven up the coastal towns alot. With the spawn on the Beach, the interior towns would remain the "big risk" for th "big loot".

v1.7.2 Aggros zombies much more then usual?
psylnz replied to resausk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah a new character should at least start off with a crappy melee weapon, something good enough to take one zed out before you get knocked down below 6000 blood. Starting off with no way to defend yourself is neither fun nor realistic, but it is terribly frustrating. -
Zeds shouldn't aggro because they heard you
psylnz replied to Dagoth Wit's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree Have sound cause investigation. Perhaps a gunshot should wield the Zed around alot faster than a gentle footstep. Have only sight cause aggro. Anything else and we should at least start with a weak melee weapon. -
YES - Spawn with a melee weapon. Just a stick would be adequate. A month ago, I'd say fine, no weapon, no big deal. But with the weapon drops, zombie spawns, and zombie aggro the way they are now, spawning without even a melee weapon is unbalanced, unfair, unfun, and unrealistic. I'm in a forested country and I can't even have a stick to defend myself? How is that realistic? The repeated, spawn, creep into town for crappy or no loot, get caught, runaway, die cause they're never going to stop following you, before you even find a hatchet is getting tedious, frustrating and boring. Either that or turn down zombie hearing, to the point that they don't hear movement below a sprint. I don't want a return to "prone = invisible", but slow walking around one side of a house should not send a zombie on the otherside into a full tilt sprint on the attack. Going through towns has gone from being a stealth challenge to simply a game of luck. With slot machine odds Last night I found a winchester in a barn in Prigorodky farm, and almost 50 shells. One Zed heard me walking from outside the barn and came in. Shot him, and then about 20 more came running in. Shot them all, and figured the area should be fairly clear. Walked to a house beside the barn to check it out. Zombie inside, no chance for stealth, so I shoot him. In an area that should be clear, about 20 more zeds come running in. After killing 44 of them, I ran out of ammo. I could see maybe 44 in Cherno or Elektro, or maybe even in one of the smaller towns or villages. But on a freaking farm? So yeah, please, either give us a melee at start, or turn down zombie hearing enough that stealth with no weapon is viable.

Temporarily expose Server-Hoppers to prevent hopping in general
psylnz replied to Grunf911's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Simple solution - I saw it done in an MMO, Fallen Earth. When you try to log out, a 30 second timer starts counting down. If you move or do any action, the timer is cancelled, and you must restart the process again. So with this, in DayZ when you wanted to log out, you'd go find a quiet safe spot, log out and wait 30 seconds. No more logging out under attack cause you'll die. Simple and fair. Mind you this would only work for those trying to avoid death, it would do nothing for loot jumpers. -
6th time debug plains in 3 days, items vanished
psylnz replied to Blay Wayne's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Played today, and had a number of weird things happen, finally coming to the debug plains and staying there. - rarely saw loot - rarely saw zombies, even when right in the middle of a medium sized town - every time i logged in I spawned on the beach - though I hadn't died, and had logged off far to the north. That was when things were going good. - every time i log in, I have what I started with this morning. Ammo is completely replenished to what it was when i logged in first thing this mornging, any items I picked up sinceh, are gone. - Fast Forward to this afternoon. I go on Canada 2 server, I spawn in the debug forest. I go on any other server, I spawn in the debug plains. I still haven't died, and when I ran out of the debug forest to the nearest town and logged out, my position wasn't saved. Upon logging back in, i start at the debug forest. On other servers its worse - I spawn miles off in the plains. And every time theres at least a few people there going through the same thing. Also I don't see a debug window anymore (maybe this was a game change), and I don't ever seem to get hungry or thirsty despite hours of gameplay without dieing. - Last time I spawned in, I noticed a significant Frame Rate Drop. I should note that today was the first time I played in four weeks. For now the alpha is unplayable, so I'm going to wait for the next update and try then.
