    ... worried about standalone :(

Im with Glass Casket and Drunk Punk on this one. Anybody reading this should read the disease thread. I'm thinking about sticking with the mod now. What Rocket's considering is too much in my opinion. Catching a deadly disease just cause you looted a corpse, or took water from a pond or well that you didn't know was infected? And then searching across the land for the holy grail of the right medicine for the right disease (they are talking about several, each with its own specific medicine). Defecation in game? What's the point of teaming up and building a remote survival camp if one griefer decides to infect himself with cholera and run through your camp infecting everything, or shit in the nearby pond you gather water from. It could just be mildly annoying, if the medicines are as easy to find as pain killers, or it could be a major pain in the ass, if the medicines are as rare as 50 cal sniper rifles. But either way, it will be less fun and challenge and more simple annoyance. It won't lead to grouping either, it will lead to more KOS.
  2. I don't think this will eliminate much of either - there's no affect on hackers; I presume by COD Kiddies you mean the PVPers who just kill on site for the sake of scoring another kill. If anything this will increase KOS - why would I let anyone near me now, even if they have no gun or backpack? They might be sick
  3. Make's teabagging look fairly mild doesn't it, lol.
  4. Yep. Pitch the tent, save the good stuff, then run around Cherno shooting a makarov into the air til a player or zed horde put you out of your misery.
  5. I think this goes a bit too far. This is only going to frustrate people - it's one thing to get killed by your own carelessness around zeds and players, but to die because you looted something that you can't even detect as being dangerous? Then have to search the whole map for medicine to cure to a disease you can't even diagnose. If the only means of prevention is to head to the woods and have 0 interaction with anything but a stray goat, I'm out. This won't drive people to group - if anything this will make them KOS even more. To get people to cooperate we need in game tools to recognize and identify people. Like a team/squad chat or something. Sure that's unrealistic, but so is loot dropping every so often all over the place - if the looting system were realistic, loot would only spawn once when the server was initially rented, and we'd eventually all end up bludgeoning each other with axes for the last can of beans to see who can win the title of avoiding starvation the longest. With all the characters looking alike, I never know weather the guy I see creeping up the street is the guy the night before who gave me a blood transfusion, or the guy who gave me the bullet wound. That's the biggest problem with the deathmatching in this game - every player always remains an unidentifiable stranger, unless you use other software like teamspeak to communicate with friends. Even then we all pretty much look alike. I think this will end up being like broken bones - most people won't spend hours crawling to a city to find morphine, they'll just suicide and start over. Another thing - who needs to hack and nuke players when you can shit in a pond, drink the water and then run around spreading disease? I'm not sure how the dev's will manage infectious diseases, but I fear this will make DayZ either slightly annoying or near unplayable.

    Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

Though I'll mostly play first person, I say no. There's times when I'm prone and being careful and would still aggro zombies if not for the ability to look around in third person. Plus some of my friends likely won't play unless it stays third person. I say leave this one up to the server, like it is in the mod.

I cannot pay for Arma II

Pretty sure I got both Arma2 and Arrowhead off Steam for $30.00 total. But that was months ago.
  8. While in game mechanisms like squads or something would help alot, nothing really prevents you from forming a clan of like minded players, grouping up on a server, and working together. FFS if you know the snipers are going to be camping on the hill above electro, group up and come around from the back side of the hill, and shoot them from behind.
  9. Actually going by what you say, you don't like freedom in a game. You want to inhibit other peoples freedom to play the way they want so that you can play carelessly. That is why you suggest a warning sound when players are within 50 metres or viewing range, or why you want 5 times health than those who play as bandits. There is always a reason to kill on site in this game. You may have something I need, and I won't know that til after I kill you. It might be a band-aid or painkillers, which newly spawned characters have. Maybe I need food or drink. Maybe I just passed a rifle and don't want you picking it up and coming after me. Maybe I'm shooting for the ultimate bandit rep. Every player is a potential walking lootbag. How often do you actually get killed by spawn killers? People spawn in such far away places from where they died that it would take enormous patience to spawnkill in this game. I don't think it's ever happened to me. Join a clan, find some friends and group up. The game could use some grouping mechanisms, but you could use a chat program running at the same time as the game. Make hunting bandits part of your challenge.
  10. Penny Sue you have a good handle on the motivations of the different PVP players - Those who like to grief, those who like the challenge of fighting a real thinking player and not some mindless ai, and those who see the tactical benefit of letting someone else go grab the loot, then killing them and taking it. Shadow Man - servers and bandwidth can only handle so many variables, so there will be a limit on the number of zombies that can be in the game at any one time. While your suggestion might encourage grouping, It could discourage people from playing the game at all, if they repeadetly get killed by mass mobs of zombies before they even have a chance to find an axe. Maybe make the better loot spots overun, or with tougher zombies. The game industry has more or less turned alot of players into online homicidal maniacs. Not in the real world, but in their "gaming" personas. For years, just about every game has been all about shooting everything in sight. Then with online games it became deathmatch, or team deathmatch. So what alot, if not most people, get excitment out of and expect to find in a video game is to go and kill people or NPCs. If they've played alot of PVP games, they expect to kill other players. Incentives (giving stuff) to not PVP won't work on people who like PVP. They'll do without the stuff for the joy of PVPing. They'd proudly wear a bandit skin. Disincentives (taking stuff) from those who PVP will only drive them to different games. Given the number of people complainging about it on here is usually a handful a day, and the number of people out there playing and enjoying this game as it is tends to be in the tens of thousands each day, and Rocket's steadfast commitment to not removing PVP, I think gamers who like PVP the way it is now have little to worry about. I think the game just needs better grouping mechanisms in game, so that people that want to group up can find each other. Really though, if people wanted to put a little effort into it, they could start clans, use third party tools like teamspeak and what not to communicate and find each other in game, group up, build camps, rebuild and retrieve vehicles, hunt for food and stockpile arms, so that when they do get killed, one of their pals can pick them up off the beach in a vehicle and get them outfitted with some good weapons right away. If you check out the YouTube videos, lots of players are grouping up. I think we are used to two kinds of games - PVP games, where the object is to overtake the other player or other team, or PVE where the quests and objectives are laid out for us. In this sandbox environment, you have to lay out the quests yourselves if you want them. The stuff I listed above, like rebuilding vehicles could be considered quests. Recruiting new spawned, players and finding out weather or not you can trust them could be considered quests. Building up your own camp and group to go raid someone else's could be considered a quest. I hope the game stays completely sandbox. There are so few games that are sandbox like this one.
  11. It's an open sandbox game, and that's the most beautiful thing about it. If you want to be a homicidal maniac - you can. It should be no surprise that so many people choose this route, considering how PVP gaming has evolved. If you want to group up, and have strength in numbers, you can do that too. No one and nothing is stopping you. I agree that it would be great to have an ingame mechanic to find friends on servers, and an ingame mechanice for people to team up, and maybe spwan on a beach close to the rest of the team, to have a team chat, and maybe even friendly fire off within the team. I know that last one takes away from realism, and I'm kind of divided on it myself, but it would stop people from using such a team mechanism to lure people and kill them. But such grouping mechanisms lacking, you could go to the clans section, make some friends, get some teamspeak or ventrillo on the go, or even some chat program, arrange to meet somewhere, and stick together in a large group; Strength in numbers - a lone bandit is going to be careful to mess with a large group. He's not likely to get all of you, and your pals can guard your stuff til you get back to reclaim it.

    DayZ singleplayer

I think there are a couple of Zombie mods for Arma2 that are single player. Isn't Dynamic Zombie Sandbox single player?

    New zombie

Childeren maybe not. But women shouldn't be a problem with the media. There were women zombies in Left 4 Dead, and it was one of the top games the year it was released. The Zoey character in L4D looks like she could be anywhere from a teenager to early twenties at max, and you see her die regularly. I agree with the OP. More variety of zombies, and have some of them with better stats. Maybe some would have been runners or atheletes in their previous lives and would run faster. Maybe the military zombies would be tougher or something.
  14. Seems that now, Play with six records your CD key. I can play DayZ without launching steam. Unfortunately, the only way the second character can be played on the same PC is to completely uninstall Play with six, log into the other Steam account, then reinstall Play with Six, and thus, reinstall Dayz. Not convenient. Anyone figure out a work around - I've tried a second windows log in to no avail.

    security for tents and vehicles

Well the tents are not really yours - you looted them from either an abandoned store, another tent, or a dead player. Pretty much same goes for vehicles, even if you did work to repair/refuel it. So I don't think players should be entitled to some type of security just because they found an object. And they can be hidden - there's a whole lot of the map where few people ever go at all, within the bounds of the map.

    'new' bandit skin is terribad..

I believe the bandit skin is more or less just a place holder anyway, taken from models ARMA and its expansions already have. Eventually I'm sure becoming a bandit will none mean donning a Taliban headdress. I'd rather see Bandits getting stuck with sunglasses. A little more subtle, and if someone wants to be honest, they can don a pair from the get go, before their humanity drops.

    [DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!

Ill had another post to this. This is a Zombie Apacolypse sim. We start off with basically nothing. We scavenge for food, for weapons, for tools. We scavenge or fight, or steel or murder for everything, not knowing where anyone might be at anytime. Having a magic heat map just doesn't fit the scenerio.

Here is my "Peaceful" alternative to KOS

No on the magic unlimited ammo freeze bullets. Right now, apparently if you have chat set to direct communication and use either your mic or text, it can be heard only by someone close by. But granted, when I see or hear chatter, most people won't know that someone was talking to them until its too late. I've been killed several times like this by guys asking if I was friendly, and me not respoding. I counter suggest this. Have a key bind, say the letter H, to issue a "HALT!!" command. Player one, spots player 2. It doesn't matter if player one has a weapon or not; Instead as long as player one is within direct communication range with player 2, and he lines player two up in his sites, or in the middle of his screen, and holds down H at the same time, Player 2 receives the message HALT, via an audio file, or an unusual color in text in the middle of the screen - something you can't miss. Then player 1 can speak to player 2 via direct communication, and player two can react however he wants - shoot out, run, negotiate with beans, etc. Altenatively, I have an easier suggestion. We used to be able to line our crosshairs up on another player and get their name and range. Now this was bad because you could track a player who was hiding in the distance just by moving your crosshairs around, weather or not you actually saw him. Make it so if you hold down the H key (or whatever key), and line your crosshairs up on a player, and if you are in direct communication range, and if there are no obstacles in your line of site to him, that you get to see his name. From there you can go into direct communication mic or chat, and tell him whatever you want to.

    Vehicle Hoarding Suggestion Fix

Hoarding is part of the sim. It's a valid survival tactic. Vehicles are a rare find, and often need to be repaired. I think if someone goes through the trouble of finding one, and goes through the trouble of finding parts and fuel, they should be able to keep it as long as they can hide and guard it. As long as they keep it within the map borders - if you go beyond the treeline, as far as I'm concerned the thing should instantly explode. They have to save the vehicle to don't they? The first few weeks I played I thought vehicles were a myth. Never saw one in any state of repair. But within the last two weeks I've seen : two boats - one out of fuel and the other I died before I could check one bicylce - functional one truck - fuctional and fully repaired one tractor - functional and fully repaired

    Insanity System, combating banditry

The players hating unecessary deaths need to stop being so lazy and 1) play more carefully, and 2) team up. If i get killed in the first 30 minutes, it's almost always by zombies and because I didn't have a weapon, and I got careless. Once I have a weapon I tend to last for hours in game, and when I die, it's almost always, again, that I got careless, got greedy, couldn't be happy with the great loot I had, I had to go looking for one more, AKM mag, etc; That and I didn't team up and get someone to watch my back and help out.
  21. Read the interviews by Rocket, the guy who made this mod. PVE servers are not going to happen. I'd say there's a better chance of the zombies pulled from the game, then for PVE servers. As for you having nothing - anybody who shoots you doesn't know that. Maybe you don't have a gun. You might have something in your toolbelt I want. You might have Who knows what you might have in your backpack. I might desperately need a can of Beans, or Soda (at time's I've gone to almost flashing red without even being able to find one. if you just spawned, maybe I need some painkillers or im out of bandages. Then there is the risk factor. If I let you go, what's to say your not going to find a gun in the next room, and shoot me for my stuff? Every player you haven't made friends with is an extreme threat. And then there's just plain the thrill of shooting another player. Not for stuff. Not for bragging rights. Just for the thrill. I get a thrill from "hunting" players in this game unlike any other game I have ever played. Even the constant intense action of a shooter like BF3 doesn't come close to comparing. When I see a player a couple of hundred metres off, my heart starts racing. Can I sneak up to him, and get the drop on him? Or do I just risk losing my stuff. It's damn hard to resist and most times I don't. And it doesn't work out well for me alot of the time. One of the most memorable times for me in this game was hunting down a player who was heading for Balota. All I had was a Makarov. He was long ways off, but wasn't checking around him. I ran towards him, dodging for cover behind trees, so that he wouldn't see me if looked back. As I got closer, I wondered, should I risk shooting at the edge of the guns range, or take the risk of getting up real close. I chose the later. He seemed was crouched and looking fwd, probably checking his pack. I got a few feet behind him and my heart was literally pounding just before I unloaded. Silly, as it's just a game, but no other game does that for me. There's ways to avoid getting killed as you describe. Find you freinds and head inland. Once you spawn, head for the treeline at least; don't go running through the costal towns til you are all grouped up and have weapons. I agree with you though about being defenseless. I would perfer it if we all started with a makarov. I think that was a pretty fair start, and gave the newly spawned player at least a chance against other players. At the very least I think we should spawn with a crowbar or some weak melee weapon - spawning and not being able to defend yourself at all, is a bit too much in my opinion. But I'll still play either way.

    NPCs, Quests

I vote no on this one. Day Z has it's own variations of quests. Loot sem-dangerous towns. Loot more-dangerous Airbases. Find yourself a tent to gather loot. Find the downed helicopter for the uber loot. Find and repair the vehicles. Join with other players to build camps in safe remote areas. Go hunting for food. Go helping other players. Go Banditing other players. Put a group together and live peacefully in the woods hunting animals. Put a group together and go hunting bandits. Wage war on other groups. Other games have spoiled us by giving us the exact direction you we are going to take in the game, while limiting us from taking much direction of our own. DayZ leaves it wide open. It's not for everybody, But I'm glad Rocket is steadfast to the direction he's taken with this game. I'm don't mean to be rude or one of those guys that tells you to go play WoW, but almost every other game out there provides NPC quests, if that's what you are looking for.

    [DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!

No heat maps please. Heatmaps completely goes against the nature of this mod. No point in grouping up and forming camps in remote or hidden areas anymore (I'm talking about within the map boundaries). While it would be a good tactic for survival, there's no point if a heat map is just going to lead every sniper & bandit to you. Let people find camps by looking for them, following players returning from loot runs, running search grids, etc. Not by giving them a magic treasure map. Please reconsider the heat maps.

    Blinking Blackscreen

I had the same problem. Unfortunately I decided to delete my ArmA content from steam, and am know waiting while the whole thing downloads again. Also unfortunately for me, during this crap I spawned on the beach - lost an AKM, a Coyote Pack (the big one), and a tent. :(
