    I haven't used the glock on any players...but 8 times seems a bit excessive. You may have been having some latency issues.

    Unless you spawn along the east coast. The best bet is to use an online map. If you have 2 screens pull it up on the other. If not, print something off. I don't see getting around without one. I usually have one zoomed out on my 2nd monitor, then have one that I can zoom in and out of easily on my iPad. Knowing where you are is the most vital to finding each other.

    You can toss tin cans outside. They should come to the sound. I have only read of this technique though, and not had a chance to use it since 1.7.1.5. Worth trying though.
