It’s 2024 and the market is steadily filling more than ever before with consoles of the current generation. The PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X have fully integrated into nearly every household that claims to home a gamer, from casual play to the competitive player, and content creator.
Since the console release of Bohemia Interactive’s much loved title Day Z there has been rumour and speculation regarding the differences compared to the same title’s PC edition. At the early years of the console edition people shared the opinion that the promised support and updates would eventually entail the title to become on-par to its PC predecessor. It’s very clear to any user of the service/game that the console edition does not resemble the same game on PC… infact if you were to be on a different map and did not have a loading screen you would infact think they were different titles. From major differences of UI, graphics, frames, mods, weapons, environment behaviour, movement, recoil… the list is vast and has been shared as disappointing for many and more so those that purchased the game 2020+. The game saw a huge influx in players during the Covid pandemic and the questions arose regarding if the game will ever actually be brought upto par as its PC edition.
Throughout the years of the console release a myth came to light which claimed the games shortfalls are a liability of the previous generation consoles capability; clock speeds, renders, network bandwidth etc.
So when this the new wave of users in the pandemic came through these familiar players were having to explain without any real answer to the new players why there is such a difference.
This spread rumours of misinformation and convinced new buyers to a poor view of Bohemia Interactive.
I myself had interactions with groups where players shared they felt misled after watching content creators and streams of the game, some felt the game was left in the dark for console users to be forgotten, others genuinely even refunded the title believing worse for the fate of the console game. The end result of these Chinese whispers around the elephant in the room was that Day Z console was now expected to only be possible to be brought on par to PC if it were tethered over for a current generations release.
The clock speed of the current generation consoles supersedes what it takes for a device to run the PC version of DayZ and so the question on many console players lips now is why does the game not resemble anything like the PC version.
Will it ever reach that level, will it even get an upgraded version for current generations.
It’s something we are all completely unsure of, the updates we receive to the title so far are updates we sincerely appreciate but clearly show we are indefinitely never reaching the PC version on console whilst the titles are strictly last gen releases. At most we receive seasonal updates to weapons and items that are a drip feeding slower than any reasonable consideration can be given.
Now hastily I know many who read this will immediately assume (correctly) but they are adding a new map. Yes, infact the frostlines update will bring a new map and some interesting mechanics to both PC and console but these are not the differences that players primarily miss out on in its times of service as a title.
I would like to ask if we the community can support this post or one much more forgiving to the coincidence that frostlines update will be live for all platforms in the same window. (Unfortunately I don’t see this update diminishing any of the outstanding service updates and issues needed to the console version edition of the much loved title.)
We as devoted players wish to see the game in its best form and features that regrettably seems to still be exclusive to PC in the day and age where it takes a vast amount of money to make a visible and performance clock difference between platforms.
Can we ask the question is this happening behind the scenes? Will we get a current gen upgrade? Will the console edition be updated to resemble and include the same features PC has exclusively held for some years now.
End our misery please Bohemia Interactive before asking us to add more paid DLC to a game years behind on one platform to the other.
We appreciate all your work, with such a team devoted and hard working. I personally just wish to address the elephant in the room.
We hope you all enjoyed the trip to Czech and are thinking about the steps next for Console to be bridged over to the same state of its PC edition.
Many thanks
