  1. ArmA2 engine is used for US Army's simulation training. I've read somewhere that the contract is up and Army is looking to grant 40 mill to a developer who can give them a new engine for next gen simulator. I figure that Bohemia is all balls out to get that contract with ArmA 3's engine. However from what I understood, Army is looking for next gen simulator right now, which probably means that Army is not content with Bohemia's ArmA3 engine. Which in turn probably means that Bohemia's priority numero uno at this point is to appease US Army and its requirements to get that 40 mil contract. So we probably will not see ArmA3 for some time as its being worked on and tweaked for Army's sake. If Rocket is planning to give us something by the end of the year, it is most probably be in ArmA2 engine. Which makes sense, as buying the rights to use an "older" engine is probably much cheaper, compared to, going with brand spanking new one.
  2. That is one of those absolutely ingenious ideas! Manly beards for manly men, who survive long enough to grow one! Beard and a hatchet is all I need! This topic is sponsored by Chuck Norris.

    I want beards NOW!

"It's settled science. In light of this information we will enforce a rule requiring all males to wear at least one inch of facial hair at all times. Furthermore, any females able to grow facial hair are encouraged to do so as well."

    I want beards NOW!

I want the one that grows with the days I survive, not a wussy textured one.
  5. NO. FUCK NO. Consoles should die as quickly as possible. They are a plague of gaming. Or at least in the form that they are in right now.

    The new dayz....

Why are you running to Cherno??? East of Cherno spawn: Run North to Zelenogorsk. Basic weapon and food along the way. General store in Zeleno = food, weapon, ammo, survival kit (knife, map, watch, matches, etc). Run to Vybor, general store = more supplies. Run to Airfield, military grade weapons. Run to Stary Sobor, PvP more military toys. Done! One hour and you are all set. West of Cherno spawn: Run to Pusta, food and water, maybe hatchet. Run to Mogilevka, supplies, maybe a weapon. Run to Zub, supplies maybe a weapon. Run to Stary Sobor, Military grade weapons. Done! PvP or run to airfield. One hour and are are all set. Why would ANYONE run to Cherno or Elektro as a new spawn????
  7. Just wanted to find out if there is some sort of archive of DayZ versions? I need to get the 1.7.2.3 version back, but don't have it anymore on my computer. Edit: Sorry wrong version before.
  8. Topic says it all. A quiver of 5-10 bolts that takes up one slot in the inventory, is a simple solution to the crossbows. Same exact concept as a magazine or a clip for any rifle.
  9. Single player contains Editor. Training with a weapon, or recording tutorials for other players, requires an editor. DayZ has a number of specific weapons, that can not be accessed through vanilla ArmA2.
  10. Well you have to reload LeeEnfield after each shot too, in real life. Its a bolt action rifle. We don't need to press "R" after each shot. Just give us an appropriately long delay between shots, to account for reloading and that should be that.
  11. Not converting. Just implement a number of bolts as a magazine. You would NEVER find a single bolt anymore, just "magazine" of bolts. Same as you do for other weapons.
  12. From you statement, Rocket is an idiot then. With crossbow's limited range, and somewhat awkward sighting, I don't really see it as "everyone will carry it". Especially if its a choice between crossbow and some other gun in your primary slot. Its a niche weapon, that's not being used because of its dumb implementation of ammo storage. It has plenty of its own shortcomings, that would be nice to offset with some advantages, such as 1 shot kill and silence.
  13. I think ArmA2 engine is not designed to keep a track of a single bullet as an item and stack them up in a magazine or a clip, when found. I think that is exactly the problem that we have with the crossbows. That is why they are not stackable. Each bolt right now is basically a magazine that holds one bullet /bolt. So instead of doing this, just make "magazines" of bolts, e.i. quivers. I honestly don't know why Rocket did not implement bolts like this from the start. Single bolt per inventory slot had to be ridiculous right from the start, when crossbow was implemented into DayZ.
  14. P.S. I think the reason for one bolt per slot, is that Arma is not designed to track down a single bullet as an item. So you will never find bullets for any of the guns, only clips and magazines. But I think the easiest way to fix crossbows is to instead of spawning one bolt at a time, just spawn a quiver of 10 or 5, same as a magazine for a rifle. Decrease the spawn rate for them a little, and ta-da crossbow is a viable weapon once again. Deer stands would be perfect spawn points for them. Would make a lot more sense than spawning AK and M16 mags.
  15. Its effective range is not 30m geez, who writes that crap on wiki? You can reliably fire it and hit targets in center mass up to 200m, but you have to practice with it. Now that Rocket disabled "Single Player" button, you can't go to editor and practice with a DayZ specific weapon. Either way, I agree that its not a good weapon because of the way ammo is stored in the backpack. One bolt per slot is pretty ridiculous.

    AKS-74 Kobra

NO, it does NOT hit at the dot. Depends on the range. Up to 200m it hits in the space between the dot and the triangle. 150 meters would be the height of a standing man, equaling the height of the entire sight, the dot and triangle. At 300m bullet drops, and you have to aim with the top of the triangle. 300m is the height of a standing man, where his feet match the bottom of the triangle, and his head would fit right under the triangle.
  17. no way you have over a hundred murders and only 5 bandit kills. There is no way to distinguish between survivors and bandits, and with everybody being trigger happy, EVERYBODY is a bandit. You count should be at least 50/50. I smell Photoshop Unless you sit on the coast and just snipe spawns.

    Only one weapon for you!

    AKM for life!
  19. One time game purchase. Studio developed with community input (similar to what it is right now). Kickstarter with alpha and development build access. Play as you develop it.
  20. As frustrating some of these glitches and bugs and instabilities are, Rocket really has hit onto something special with this mod. And from time to time, it really shines. Rocket, if you are reading this, thank you. Just had a shoot out in the woods West of "Vibor". My character was low on blood, around 6k from a zombie attack. I had decent gear, AKM plenty of ammo, M9SD, some meds, some food, etc. The location was pretty isolated, no major routes and no major town, other than Vibor, which was a few kilometers back. Killed a cow, got steaks, and was heading to the nearest woods to set up a fire and cook them to get some blood back. Alert, but wasn't expecting anything out of ordinary, as I said it was a pretty isolated part of the map. Basically just going through the motions of surviving in DayZ. As I was crossing a field, spotted two guys going opposite direction from me, about 400 meters out. Dropped down, saw them drop down as well. 3rd person view was on. We looked at each other for a couple of seconds, then I saw one of them get up and kneel facing my way. I figured he is taking aim, and had to get up since grass was covering his view in prone. I was about 300 meter to the nearest woods that I was heading to, so I quickly threw a smoke grenade between us, and next thing I hear crackling of shots. I pick up and sprint to the woods, for some cover. They give chase. I manage to squeeze a few rounds into them when I see them sprinting between trees, but even if I did hit them, did not kill. I start to fall back deeper into the woods, trying to get some distance and cover between me and them. They keep up and the distance stays at about 300-400 meters. I can see that they are not going to give up, and see one guy trying to outflank me. I start to move back in, hoping to circle around him, as he heads deeper to my right. Unfortunately I loose a track of the second guy, who stayed behind. Finally I get caught and receive a couple of rounds into my side, ending my game. HOWEVER! This was one of those rare episodes where DayZ really really shines. It was the combination of things. 1. Survival. Me trying to find a quiet spot to get a fire going and replenish. Routine of surviving in DayZ, but something that I needed to do. 2. PvP. No matter how much you all bash banditry on these forums, DayZ would not be the same game if it was only zombies we had to worry about. 3. Simulation environment, where we have to know how to use guns, how to use cover, basic principles of strategy and movement, etc. It would not be the same with simpler ballistics models of other standard FPSer. 4. Perma death. I died, and that's it. That really was a GAME OVER. Obviously I can just rejoin the server, but for that character, that was it. I'm not gonna see those guys again. I won't be able to avenge my death. I have to worry about surviving from the base level once again. Its a whole new game from this point on, and I love it. I really think the beauty is the moments like these, that stand out in the overall mundane routine in this game, and I think that is a key to a good gameplay. I need contrast. Constant firefights will get boring after a while. However a spike of adrenaline such as this, here and there, in the overall experience of DayZ, is exactly what I find enjoyable for myself. I think I need a cigarette. :D P.S. To those two assholes who got me... Good job.... Fuckers. :)
  21. said the asshole that has nothing else to contribute other than his trolling bs.
  22. +1 you have my beans

Is every gun the dinner bell now?

Zombie spawn is endless, you get swarmed if you are not careful. I like it, its more about outsmarting them (which is not hard) rather than brute force, which they should have and numbers on their side. I think zombies now hear through walls again. Rocket confirmed that prior to 1.7.2.4 zombie's hearing to shots, was glitched. They didn't hear them. Now its fixed, and they hear you how they are SUPPOSE to hear and react. But I still think they hear through the walls again, now. Spawning should be exactly that. When you are indoors, the waves should just keep on coming. If you are in the open, no new zombies should spawn and agro on top of you, so you can fight them off.
  24. Question in the topic. It takes 3 shots to the center mass to take a zombie down with 1911, used to be just one shot. I'm actually ok and HAPPY about this, but my concern is that the ammunition was nerfed instead of more hit points added to the zombies. I guess the MAIN question is, in a PvP combat, are weapons dealing same amount of damage to human players, or less in the new (1.2.7.4) patch?
