A case for "classic" Zeds
TheCalcaholic replied to Goose Springsteen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think, currently the biggest danger of zombies is, that shooting them may attract other zombies (and players). -
I think the most difficult aspect of the game is (not regarding the bugs for now) how to aproximate to other players without giving up any control about the outcome. One thing I really would appreciate is some kind of indentification system; very simple, for example a key to show ones name over the head, similar to showing a passport. The reason why I would like to have such a feature is, that trust is all about identity. I can only trust someone who is willing to share his name with me; and if he does, I can more likelyform an opinion on him. So far my thoughts... What do you think?

Make killing an option... allow us to knock out fellow survivors :)

I think the best point of this would be that you can knock somebody out take his weapon and make friends with him afterwards ;). So you can contact other players securely (of course you may want to return his weapon to him as soon as you trust him) -
How to make the game more fun and less frustrating with a few small tweaks.

Well, since there are not that much zombies and they're down very fast it would be just to easy, if they had to hit you continuously to harm you. I mean, the only reasons that a zombie would stay alive very close to you could be that you ran in masses of zombies without care (or fighting them with something like a mortar^^) or you're out of ammo or afk. And concerning the thing about breaking legs... it's not that difficult to break legs. Well more easy by kicking than by hitting but nevertheless it's realistic. And I think it is a great feature that supports the atmosphere of the game. -
Suggestions from a Sandbox MMO Player.

I think you've made some great points... Concerning the thing about more maps... I personally would love to play DayZ in a major city - with small narrow streets and dark areas to hide and be scared to death by zombies, and with high-rises that that apparently don't have many way to flee if necessary... I know that this would mean lots and lots of work creating new maps, but as the dayZ community grows maybe there will be many people willing work on it - IF the opportunity is given to create custom map-servers. There could also be the opportunity given to choin a server on another map with all the equipment of yours on a spawnpoint, so that there would be some variety in the gaming experience. By the way, the idea about rebuilding towns sounds really fabulous to me; if that was implemented it would be great (but it also means lots of work for the developers as I know). -
I really like the mod so far, and I often think about the potential it has if it's development leads into the right direction. I think one thing that should definitely be dealt with is advanced player interaction under which I don't understand primarily emotes and stuff, but encouragement for like player driven organizations. It's a great vision to have some day some gangs or paramilitary organizations which are player-risen and -lead, which you can enter and maybe reach ranks or whatever... So what would be the motivation to found such a group? Well most obvious this would be primarily solidarity. It would be easier to find friendly players to loot a town or something; it would be possible to store public ressources (which are accessable to members of the organization), they could more easily do trading supported by the safety of an official base (which people could securely enter depending on the organization's fame or infamy)... But to enable something like this, it would be very helpful to give some opportunities in the game mechanics. For example solidarity would be much easier with an groupintern voip, so one can call for help if needed. Furthermore it would be great to be able to create something like barricades (not like the barbwire where you can shoot through) to secure areas that can be used as base. An interesting idea would be to have some places that offer controls over unique elements of the game (for example a broadcast station or a computer with a player database [maybe setting up some kind of law enforcement?]). There could be power struggles between organizations for those places. So far my ideas; I'm looking forward to hear your opinions. :)
