    Best Music To Play DayZ To.

    Unless you don't care about your character dying - i.e. if you are either a hacker or a new player, then no music is best. The in game ambient music is pretty cool anyway. You can't play arma or its mods properly without having the situational awareness provided by sound.
  2. So honestly i'm not sure exactly how they are currently done. I assume that they either spawn on mission start or at a random time with a max limit of 2-3 if I remember correctly. My suggestion is this - have none on mission start, and the first one actually flies in with setDamage on 0.3 or so (for non-editors this is the scripting command for having a vehicle pre-damaged), so that it is visibly smoking/burning, moves to a random location with altitude decreasing and eventually crashes. (with AI pilot ofc and a damage prevention script) This way, instead of an 'arcadey' text message advising players, or an expected spawn site, the locations are truly random and players have a chance of seeing one flying in and crashing. It would be tense and exciting, be fair to new players who don't know the spawn locations, and would lead to more emergent gameplay and hilarious possibilities such as the helicopter crashing directly onto someones camp/a building, destroying it in the process. Edit - Someone recently raised the point that it is very immersion killing just knowing that there is a crash site out there without ever having seen one, it renders the whole process of exploration far too systematic and 'gamey'. Yet another great reason why this simple change should be implemented.

You wake up washed up on a beach - the story implied suggests some kind of recent tragedy that you have awoken to discover. Why do you not see room for a crashing helicopter?

    Playing with a group/clan gives you a massive advantage over others not because of scripted mechanics but because the game is realistic enough to allow for things that work in real life to also work in game. Simply put, your survival chances will go up massively if you work with others. For private audio chat you just need to use either skype, teamspeak 3 or ventrilo.

This suggestion helps exactly that emergent gameplay - the existing system of a pre-loaded heli crash is far, far more scripted than my suggestion of a vehicle that flies in and actually crashes at a random location, rather than a predetermined spawn. I have already extensively covered many of the ways in which it would benefit emergent gameplay and 'gamey' prevent loot farming etc. The game is not set long after the apocalypse, read the lore, it is relatively recent and clearly, there are survivors. With regards to NPC's etc - not my concern, this thread is for discussion of the basic mechanic suggested in the OP only.

  7. Ressucitating this thread to get feedback from newer members/visitors. This was one of the most popular suggestions a while back, and there are many of of who would still like to hear dev feedback on it.
  8. Some want NVGs removed. Others think that thermal optics are overpowered. The battery suggestion has come up before, but i'd like to be more specific. Rather than limiting what we have in the game, why not make ALL electronic equipment operate on batteries. Having a higher consumption depending on what it is. Rebalancing equipment so that it is still there, but must be used with realistic restraint. They could be different or the same size, that is up for discussion. So that you could for example take the batteries out of your rangefinder, and put them in your NVGs when it runs out. The rangefinder would then function as a normal pair of binoculars. Suggested battery consumption levels, in ascending order. Rangefinder GPS Military Flashlight (more efficient design, therefore lower consumption) Flashlight NVG Optics NVG Goggles Thermal Optics I would suggest making them all interchangeable. But I have a feeling some will argue, and with reason, that the batteries for optics should be separate, and only interchangeable between NVG and Thermal scopes. The addition of batteries would also anticipate the introduction of Radios/'Walkie Talkies', the power grid with rechargers, crafting of new items and more. Have I forgotten something? Thoughts and feedback?
  9. Edit - Need some feedback guys! Add a 'scent' mechanic - Zombies can detect a player who has not washed in a long time, will not be aggroed, but will slowly walk towards the source as per with audio - players can wash in any water source. Perhaps add a wet-wipe item to allow this to be done in any location. Wildlife, depending on the animal type, will also run away from players that they can smell. Movement, especially running/sprinting, as with the hunger mechanic, would increase the speed of 'smelliness', but would be a much, much slower process overall. Being in proximity to a lit campfire would also increase smell value. This would be, in my opinion, an excellent mechanic in combination with the planned 'Dog' addition proposed for a future update. A 'box of cigarettes' item, that has a similar function to the calming drug item I mentioned in another suggestion thread, and temporarily reducing pain/shaking effect of blood loss by a limited extent, but with the effect of increasing the suggested 'scent' value. This would, ofc, be a tool slot item used in combination with the box of matches. Perhaps bleeding could increase scent, and washing would have to occur to clear blood (dried) from player even after using bandages. This could have a HUD icon. Perhaps three curved vertical lines/a nose. Thoughts/feedback?

Although if they have an .50 cal then almost certainly just out to PK. I'm a 'friendly' sniper at times. My group always has a designated marksman on high ground in overwatch calling out zeds and any suspicious movement. He isn't out to PK, just there to give us that force multiplier. Of course, if we do run into trouble, he will dispatch them quicksharp.

    Why not just add a PBO or section to the code that instantly database bans someone as soon as they run any kind of 'create'/spawn script. Can't be that hard to do.
  18. I think every hour is far too often, unless you are talking about fly-bys that don't crash. 1 crash every 6-8 hours is more than enough, with a max of 2-3 per server. Or there will be far too many top-tier weapons amongst the populace in no time at all.

    You don't get how this works do you? Just because you run a server means nothing. It is a mod in the test stages and we're trying to iron out the wrinkles - i.e. people like you. You want to play things your way? Go make your own mod kiddo. Thanks' date=' and i'll keep doing this until this mod ends up somewhere respectable and without people like JIMZH making the community seem terrible. [hr']
