Removal of 3rd person view exploit

Let me use an example to make this very clear to all of you, as you seem incapable of using the incredible ability of the human brain to do what we call 'imagine'. Allow me to introduce Survivor A, an unassuming but determined fellow, currently running towards wall B, behind which bandit C is crouching. All are using 3rd person, apart from wall B, who is not sentient, but if he were would feel most uncomfortable about his entire predicament, and having spent so many years in Chernarus, would no doubt be an upright bastion of the moral unassailability of '1st-person-only'. Bandit C, holding the ALT key, is able to see around his socially-deprived person across an entire 360 degrees, including above and beyond the wall, without exposing a single part of his virginal, delicate and well kempt bandit body. Survivor A, also using this feature, just because he can, is also holding the ALT key to gain a 360 view of his surroundings whilst sprinting, just to make sure he isn't being followed by anyone, infected, healthy or wall. Alas, because of the tiresomely conservative laws of physics, that deny light the ability to curve around corners even in seemingly the most important of situations such as this, Survivor A is unable to see around and beyond these objects in the same way (please don't make me draw diagrams) as Bandit C. Wall B, were he able to comprehend within his grainy, weathered, yet well formed and resilient self would surely be most disapproving of the painful inevitability of the tragedy soon to unfold. Survivor A passes Wall B and, having been seen and tracked by Bandit C for minutes now, immediately takes 3 high-velocity rounds of 7.62mm full metal jacket in the leg, chest and head, ending his life before even having had time to take in the newly revealed surroundings. It seems likely that, had Wall B the capacity for consciousness inside his stalwart, Soviet-built, yet ultimately politically indifferent blocks of poured concrete, he would have thought it likely that Bandit C acquired the aforementioned firearm by equally unfair means, and in sheer, Chernarussian rage would have uprooted himself from his aged, moss encrusted base, and crushed Bandit C in a final expression of true, wall-based justice.

    Babies! (Well, society)

Well why don't you suggest every bloody bodily function while you're at it then? Now you are just getting angry without saying anything insightful or constructive in the way of criticism. Urination and defecation would not add gameplay depth. Unless of course it were used in combination with my suggested 'scent' mechanic' date=' in which case I would love to see it included. But either way, please stay on topic, do not troll, or I will have to ask a moderator to get involved. It took long enough to get this topic back on track after it came under the attack of barely comprehensible and mindless Christian fundamentalists. Allow me to reassert this point, in case you didn't take the time to read my detailed response to you, which seems increasingly likely - 4. But this might make it easier for you to comprehend - 3rd world nations, where in some honestly the conditions are far worse than sunny Chernarus, families are driven to have babies at a higher rate than normal. This is not a cultural thing, it is basic instinctual drive. [hr'] Good, if you have nothing intelligent to say, then better not to speak at all.

    Babies! (Well, society)

Anyway, it would be impossible to fit something like this into the game without it being made incredibly unrealistic, and like I said that would make it feel really forced and unnecessary I suspect you're either trolling or just autistic Robbl, I see that you are 18, that tells me a lot, without meaning to sound mean, but you are too young to comment on the realism, and details of these matters. I assume 'DeliciousCookie' is of a similar age. Mr Cookie, you mention behavioural biology, yet haven't mentioned your background? I have a degree in human genetics, and I don't like misusing it like that, but I feel I need to make it clear that I know very well what I am talking about. I actually have a multi-disciplinary background, including anthropology, and am very well versed in the spread of civilisations and in particular encounters between different cultures and tribes.

That is quite an assumption on your part, and I have studied human genetics for years, so you may begin eating your hat. Read my detailed post giving reasons. In such situations, birth rate increases massively regardless of the increased risks. Anyway, I think I covered it in enough detail. I am certainly not offering a 'happy ending', but another challenge. Hope drives us all, even if we know that probability suggests that the child will die a premature death. I daresay the naive one is you sir. In particular the comments on libido, the notion that 'extinct species are in existence' and a number of other things. How old are you anyway? Not trying to play the age card, but intellectual + emotional maturity, besides an understanding of genetics and anthropology is pretty fundamental to grasping what I am saying.

    Family Mechanic[Serious Thread]

This is no different from my suggestion' date=' at all. Only with mine I added the cost of needing extra food for the woman until the child is born. [/quote'] There were a few differences like adding a blackout screen if you seem squeamish Though i will congregate you on replying like an adult unlike some who seem to troll me. I'm with you on the anti-immaturity. But I had no need for a 'blackout', I never suggested a sex animation or any implication of the physical act. I don't mind it personally, but there are some serious weirdos on this planet that are ok with shooting at fellow humans, yet are terrified at the idea of sensual contact with them. That's the Christian-effect for ya.

Removal of 3rd person view exploit

Well put. :P I agree trying to explain an exploit to exploiters is hard work :) I third that. People wont understand until they have been forced to see the truth, as mentioned in my other post.

Removal of 3rd person view exploit

I agree with making sure people can't switch difficulty at least. Because it is an exploit and always has been, even long before this mod. It can be used to give you an LOS that people shouldn't have, and makes it too easy. People bitch and whine for hours about 3rd person not being an exploit, and that they 'need' it. Then it is taken away from them and suddenly they are all 'oh wow you were right, this is so much more immersive, just better in general, and i'm learning how to play better'. I have heard those words, OH so many times, from people recruited into my realism unit, who are used to public games in 'easy mode'.

    Anomalies in the forest

The sounds are all proprietary to ArmA. Apart from the Zeds, which I think came from another game. Either way, the anomaly idea does not fit. This is supposed to simulate a zombie apocalypse. Not all out paranormal weirdness.

How is reproduction controversial? The depiction of sex may be, but reproduction isn't. I assume the controversy complaints come from US citizens, because the rest of the world can deal with it.

    ACRE Support

I'm in two minds about this. ACRE, as is currently used, is for TS only. Therefore this would be a massive advantage to already established groups/clans that use it, such as mine. And a massive disadvantage for new players. I think the best solution is to use the ACRE concept to make a standalone that does not require teamspeak. Besides, for it to be effective - everyone in each server would have to join a TS server assigned to the game server, with everyone on the same channel. So the opportunity to spy on each other's conversations is huge, and the chances of server crashing and game crashing goes up a thousandfold. This needs to be sent back to the drawing board. ACRE is great, but not for this many players, it should be used as inspiration, and nothing more.

DayZ NEEDS to implement this sound mod

Meh, it's ok. Not as accomplished as JSRS, and this is coming from someone who has used them all extensively. JSRS comes with a 'woodland' version which is perfect for Chernarus in terms of reverb and compression, filters etc.

    Add a sexual anxiety meter

Exactly, the US is chock full of immature homophobes and they just can't get manlove out of their heads. They're obsessed.

    Babies! (Well, society)

Well I have been alive for over 2 weeks now, my previous character even longer. All games involve time compression, no one with an actual life is going to dedicate enough time to it to actually run through the entire process of having a baby. One way or another, something like this will eventually have to be added to deepen the game, and direct it away from the PvP, because there are 1000000s of titles out there that offer that.
  17. Arma 2 allows for anything. A friend once made a Stephen Hawking addon, we made a stunt track and raced each other hehe. Another time we had a 12v12 battle riding in on the backs of up-armoured suicide bomber goats. And none of that stuff was especially advanced to create either. I have been editing this series of games for over ten years, and this is one of the easiest suggestions to implement that is on the list.

    Add a sexual anxiety meter

Yes, as would happen in reality. I'm surprised even DayZ staff (or should I be?) lack the intelligence and maturity to provide constructive criticism without resorting to childish "bahaha blowjobs" nonsense. Grow up.

What should our next competition be?

Most popular suggestion for the next competition... (I automatically win yay)
  21. I think they are planning this actually, or at least it was mentioned in an interview, and I posted this idea on another thread about map additions. Personally, I think Takistan would be bad for it (no cover between towns), but Utes to the South or East (or south east if you are feeling particularly crazy), reachable by boat, perhaps Zargabad (or more convincingly, the PMC DLC map, forgotten the name, but I remember it being quite spooky for some reason) to the North and the soon-to-be-released Czech DLC map to the West (which has similar terrain to Chernarus) would work quite nicely imo. The existing map is enough for any individual PC to chew on as it is, so anything larger would just make it harder to run for most people.

    "Hey, I know you!"

Cool idea, but knowing how this game is modded to an extent, a lot of work and perhaps slightly overcomplicated for the outcome. Especially the feature with detecting with how well you can see them. Anything more complex than distance-to-target would be pretty hard to code due to the many semi-transparent objects etc. A GUI would have to be designed for the 'type a name' aspect, but that is not the hardest part. Saving the list of names to your part of the database for each player ID is also extra server load, although probably not much. Also, it would require fundamental code to be changed because the current hitscan name system is only a feature of 'recruit' mode servers, i.e. easy mode, which comes bundled with a load of other things such as crosshairs. Although I do think they can be changed individually - unless server settings are forced standardised (and I only play on expert servers i.e. no 3rd person, crosshairs or names, and would hate any other system being forced on me) then the individual settings would cause problems. I think there are more simple possibilities, although not nearly as nice as yours, sometimes the simple solution is best. (ESPECIALLY when it comes to this game with its many idiosyncrasies. Arma really is like a bipolar, schizophrenic stalker ex-girlfriend who refuses to take her meds, at the best of times, but I love it all the same). Personally, I don't want any kind of HUD, unless i'm actually hungry/bleeding etc. when we need to know these things. So names are highly undesirable for me. But, I suppose within a 10m radius they present no problem. Honestly I can't think of a good compromise because I don't want them at all. I think a better system, that would be HUD free, and not require any extra work (well maybe a tiny li'l bit) would be the option to select your survivor skin, face details, glasses hat etc, at each respawn. Realistic and uncomplicated, and utilising readily available game resources.
  23. Has a dev had a chance to look at this yet? I'd like some feedback in terms of how easy it would be to integrate with the existing code and server/database setup?

    Improving Cooperation

I like ideas 3,4 and 7. And the general idea, but think you should rename the thread to attract more interest + split the ideas into several threads. People, myself included, are reluctant to discuss more than one idea at a time, because suggestions are normally implemented through overall thread popularity.
