Here's a different kind of story. This one is about how 3rd person can be used as an exploit. Now excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall in anticipation of the nonsense I will have to respond to tomorrow (on another thread). Allow me to introduce Survivor A, an unassuming but determined fellow, currently running towards wall B, behind which bandit C is crouching. All are using 3rd person, apart from wall B, who is not sentient, but if he were would feel most uncomfortable about his entire predicament, and having spent so many years in Chernarus, would no doubt be an upright bastion of the moral unassailability of '1st-person-only'. Bandit C, holding the ALT key, is able to see around his socially-deprived person across an entire 360 degrees, including above and beyond the wall, without exposing a single part of his virginal, delicate and well kempt bandit body. Survivor A, also using this feature, just because he can, is also holding the ALT key to gain a 360 view of his surroundings whilst sprinting, just to make sure he isn't being followed by anyone, infected, healthy or wall. Alas, because of the tiresomely conservative laws of physics, that deny light the ability to curve around corners even in seemingly the most important of situations such as this, Survivor A is unable to see around and beyond these objects in the same way (please don't make me draw diagrams) as Bandit C. Wall B, were he able to comprehend within his grainy, weathered, yet well formed and resilient self would surely be most disapproving of the painful inevitability of the tragedy soon to unfold. Survivor A passes Wall B and, having been seen and tracked by Bandit C for minutes now, immediately takes 3 high-velocity rounds of 7.62mm full metal jacket in the leg, chest and head, ending his life before even having had time to take in the newly revealed surroundings. It seems likely that, had Wall B the capacity for consciousness inside his stalwart, Soviet-built, yet ultimately politically indifferent blocks of poured concrete, he would have thought it likely that Bandit C acquired the aforementioned firearm by equally unfair means, and in sheer, Chernarussian rage would have uprooted himself from his aged, moss encrusted base, and crushed Bandit C in a final expression of true, wall-based justice.

it took you this long to realize that. Lol. Yes, and i'll try again tomorrow. I hate being an optimist.

Haha, i'm glad you see it as clearly as I do. This 'programmer' guy is ridiculous.

I very' date=' very clearly just pointed out the difference for your benefit, and alongside the given example provides ample proof for why you are mistaken. If you can't accept your mistake without resorting to swearing, then I will have to get a moderator involved. Grow up, and move on. [hr']

Please reinstate gear to people who die from hackers or bugs.
7-75 callaghan replied to Hendrix (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I support this, I was just killed by cheating scum, he was able to take a full 30 rounds of 5.56 at point blank before dying, and killed me in the process, completely unaffected by the wounds up until death. -
What are you talking about? The series started in 2001 with Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. The only reason the name was changed to ArmA was because of the fiasco with Codemasters, who own the copyright to the name and nothing else. I have never cheated or hacked in a BIS (or any MP game for that matter) and never will. You may begin eating your hat sir.

Ok, cool. What you do is up to you lol. This thread is here for feedback on the idea, and there were no original plans to have actual baby characters anyway. Stay on topic.

New Location - Aircraft carrier
7-75 callaghan replied to DesertEagle (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is a great idea. It would have no military on board, just military zombies and good loot. It should also have a damaged UH1-Y. The object is available in the game and the devs would have absolutely no problem placing it as an object in the sea. Nice suggestion, simple, adds content, requires no time to implement by the devs. -
AI Military recon patrols
7-75 callaghan replied to DeliciousCookies's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The point is that the infection wiped out all such organisations, apart from a few small groups, maybe a military base here or there holding out, but they wouldn't be risking groups doing recon without any real purpose. I'd like this suggestion with the following modification. Spetznaz patrols coming in from off-map positions, mounted in maybe a Vodnik (tough, armed but not too heavy, scary to survivors). That are maybe hostile to bandits but not survivors? (i'm an accidental bandit from self-defence so i'm not saying this as what some call a 'carebear'). They don't recon, because this isn't a military concern, recon is pointless in the traditional sense, they are looting specific important locations for ammunition, which is of course no longer being manufactured, and surviving soldiers in bases for reinforcements. So, they could enter the map via a road, head to 2-3 key locations such as airbases, military bases, key cities etc, and then get the hell out again. Provided they aren't killed by zeds and/or players of course. They would have cool Russian weapons such as the Ak-107 or the AK-74, hand grenades, and maybe a RPK/PK that could be added in, but this is of course an optional detail. This would be a cool event based thing to add to the game. There would be a chance to take their vehicle, which is not as overpowered as the UH1-Y, but a very tough ground vehicle, armed with 2 x PKM. -
I think you mean to say "You're an idiot." If you are going to insult someone's intelligence, at least get the basic grammar correct. Like many of the immature and bitter people on this forum, you result to personal insults when your argument falls flat on it's face. That's ok, I can recognise it, and am therefore not insulted. Accept your mistake, and move on. Exploit verb Pronunciation: /ɪkˈsplɔɪt, ɛk-/ make use of (a situation) in a way considered unfair or underhand: the company was exploiting a legal loophole The use in gaming is as a noun, but stems from this very same concept. Advantage - Being in cover Exploit - Being in cover and using third person to see around it in a supernatural way. Understand?

Message to deep-south, moonshine-swilling hicks like Bo0G - Before you post your next poorly thought out and unwanted mind-fart, trolling this thread with bigotry and off-topic nonsense. Consider how you are representing yourselves and this community. This forum is for suggestions. If you are not mature and intelligent enough to comprehend the meaning of a suggestion, or the purpose of it's discussion, then I suggest you either stay away from the forums altogether, or understand that your behaviour only makes you look very immature and silly. Constructive criticism is one thing, but you have proven time and time again that you are not capable of dealing with the notion of 'suggestions'. You are wasting your time (which you seem to have a great deal of), by trying to annoy me. I am mature enough to deal with children like you, and as someone who has taught in a school environment, I have had to deal with poorly-raised children like you on a number of occasions. I am in fact indulging you greatly by even responding to your childish nonsense, but do not take these responses as legitimising, they only stem from an overall faith that you cannot actually be as pathetic as you seem on these forums, and might one day come around. As have other people on these forums after me being very patient with them. How you spend your time is up to you, but I think it rather sad to spend it this way, personally. Edit - and thanks for the video Blip, goes to show that some people, especially the creative types, are able to look at this scenario in a similar way.

Big deal you are a programmer. The word 'exploit' is a word known to anyone with a basic understanding of English, and to use 3rd person in many ways, such as to see over cover, is to exploit it. Plain, simple, objective fact.
-
Read my little story post a few back to see just one of many examples of how it can be used as an exploit, unfair to one player, even though both are using third person.

No' date=' I'm not. It's just a bit more complicated than you'd think, reproduction is the result of environmental conditions and all sorts of weirdoe gene-influenced behavior and the act of sex itself. People don't consciously feel a sense of "survival", it's just our genes, our "selfish" genes that make blueprints of structure/behavior in order to replicate. For example, a human might abandon his/her child because it looks weird or ugly, in a sense that is a mechanism for our genes to show preference for more healthy gene vehicle. The environment plays a big part in our sexual desires aswell, our libido is lower when we are stressed and so on. Having sex at the wrong time might result in worse overall gene reproducing, so it's not all about having sex all the time, since resources are scarce and others are better candidates for mates than some others. It is a common misconception that "reproduction is the most basic sense of survival", that is not simply the case, only in genetics it would apply more in the words of "Reproduction is the primary function of our genes" And from that genome everything you do is to make your genes reproduce, and it's most definitely not always to procreate with another human being. Ever wonder why people want to be with a good looking gal rather than ugly? Because they look and probably are more healthy, that's all it is all about, to signal another gene vehicle of our "great" genes and health. ps. And by survival I meant the way you put it, we would want to look after ourselves during hard times and procreating is not the first thing to happen. [/quote'] Without going into the specifics of those individual theories, that I agree and disagree with to varying extents, and which you have simplified into some kind of genetics monolith which I assure you isn't an undisputed group of ideas among geneticists, I just want to make it clear that for me at least, my libido increases in times of stress. Perhaps not a normal reaction, but I find sex a great way to de-stress. Of course, I am not normally at risk of being found by a Zed in such scenarios. But people are not as similar as you seem to portray them, and there is such a thing as 'danger-sex'. In fact, sexual behaviour is one of the most varied human behaviours I can think of, and one of the few things that makes some of you people interesting at all. Jk jk, but the point, as usual, stands.

The last thread that discussed this was locked by a mod. Unfairly it seems and a personal peev of his. It really isn't as simple as 'go play on another server'. As these are fundamental gameplay elements that affect important current and future mechanics of the mod, hitscan name tags to name just one. I wish the mods would actually learn the game a little better before getting all uppity about things they don't understand very well. No offence, I just don't want to see this thread locked for the same reasons.

DayZ for Iron Front Liberation1944?
7-75 callaghan replied to swert's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Liberation 1944 was originally a mod for the arma series. So same starting point as DayZ, only not as popular. I tried it, and honestly I don't think it is justified as a separate release, should have been a DLC. No point in splitting the DayZ community like that either. All the creative types are experienced ArmA 2 modders, the new guys contribute less, so better to keep it as one. -
Will ARMA 2 be the seed of DayZ's destruction?
7-75 callaghan replied to TylerDurden (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would have just typed 'no'. But apparently there is a minimum length of 5 characters per post. Arma 2 is the single most ambitious title on PC considering its niche nature, and offers more content out of the box than any other title I care to think of. On top of that, it offers many more mods than DayZ alone, which is just the flavour-of-the-moment. Finally, IT'S AN ALPHA! I won't even comment on the textures and player models, as you seem to be a well-spoken troll. Perhaps play the full, rather than free version? -

Haha thanks, that's flattering. I had fun with it.
