  1. I just think its lame that there is one thread for this as a sticky. It's a central discussion to the game, so to hell with posting comments in this thread as to this general discussion. Lets take it elsewhere, simply too important to isolate.
  2. From Armaholic.com "As most of you will have noticed by now DayZ by Rocket which is a persistent-world Zombie RPG for Arma 2: Combined Operations has introduced many new players to the community. Arma 2 sales on Steam are going through the roof with Arma 2: Combined Operations being the best selling game of late! That is correct, right now Arma 2: Combined Operations lists number 1 on Steam. So, I guess it was time for the devs to support another community project and Marek Španěl has stated himself Dayz will be included into Arma 2 with the next patch, being patch 1.61! Asked wether it could be included in Arma 3 he said thats a whole different business, Arma 3 is very different compared to Arma 2 and to be able to add DayZ into Arma 3 would need at least another year of work after release. To read it all for yourself, Luke Plunkett from kotaku.com sat down with Marek Španěl to chat about the current events with Arma 2 and a community project. Quote : "There's no doubt that the thrilling Day Z mod currently drives Arma 2 Combined Operations sales on Steam", he says with a touch of understatement. "Sales have increased almost fivefold from how they were before Day Z's Alpha release!" "Bohemia Interactive has always tried to help community mod makers in many different ways and Day Z mod is no different", he says. "We're more than happy to assist DayZ in any suitable way and considering the mod's popularity we are committed to do some related work in the next Arma 2 update (1.61)." "We are actively communicating about how we could best support the Arma 2 user community especially in multiplayer and Day Z players are right now a significant portion of people actively playing the game, so of course it's high on our priority list to support it the best we can. It's important to understand that DayZ was released just a few weeks ago as a tech demo/proof of concept and it's still at Alpha status so until we know where the project intends to go it's hard to commit to anything specifically." And the future? "I personally find the combination of realistic Arma style gameplay and settings with survival zombie apocalypse so addictive that I believe it can stand as a gaming experience on its own." "There are many aspects involved, for example the environment and different assets in Arma 3, new engine features etc. It's important to understand that there is still a long way to go even after Arma 3 is out until mods are properly configured, ported and matured onto the new platform. "So realistically we may be looking at one year or more from now until we can see something like Day Z based on Arma 3 technology." Read the complete interview on kotaku.com. And when you have not yet tried DayZ this definatly should give you the final push to see what all the talk is about." Excellent decision both business and community-wise. Hats off to BIS once again.

This is the best PVP game ever created

Welcome to Arma ladies, DayZ is just one of its flavours. Oh and yeah, the creator made it clear that this isn't Pvp. If you want Pvp then go play Arma game modes like AAS. They are designed for it.

    Best gun?

"There are no stupid questions, only stupid question-askers." Ok so that was a bit mean, but when it comes to a sim like arma, it is a bit like asking 'what is the best gun IRL'. As has been stated, it depends entirely on what you need to get done. Weapons are sculpted by necessity and nothing else, therefore it is logical that your weapon choice should be influenced by necessity and nothing else. If you want to kill zombies, any one-hit-kill weapon that is easy to maneuver should do (attachments such as GLs will reduce weapon mobility, unless you want to scour the configs, just trust me on this). When it comes to PvP, it depends on range, environment, team-mates, blah blah blah. As per real life, there is no best weapon, otherwise there would only be one gun used by Western forces. As the mod changes, weapons change. With the recent patch, suppressed weapons suddenly became a lot more desirable. If you don't have an overall plan, then any weapon will be useless in your hands. Decide on a strategy, and that strategy will thereafter decide which weapon is best, that is pretty much the soundest advice you will get on the subject, without meaning to sound arrogant.

    Dayz getting boring?

Ah yes I forgot to mention all of those excellent sims including Longbow 2, the whole DCS series, Falcon 4 and all derivatives etc. Anyone who appreciates Arma should check out all of the games I mentioned. DayZ will get boring so long as you play solo, the whole intrigue is based on the human aspect, plain and simple.

Breaking news - DayZ will be part of Arma 2!

Well that certainly is a shame if it was a misquote by the author. I was only passing on breaking news as it appeared on Armaholic, the best news source for the game. The 'Breaking news' part, and everything else, was merely a copy paste.

What advantage is the Military Flashlight?

It is harder to spot by players and Zeds, especially from a distance, and will not be as visible in particular through windows and inside buildings. It offers a big advantage overall.

    Dayz getting boring?

The whole 'have you got this piece of l337 equipment' argument is bullshit. If you find DayZ boring, then the mod, and possibly Arma in general, is not for you. The whole point is that you make your own objectives. It seems pointless to quantify enjoyment, but if I were to try anyway, playing with a group of friends is more fun by a factor of at least 10 than playing solo. The base game is a military simulator designed for coop 'play'. So don't expect to have a lot of fun approaching it as an SP game. If I played it alone, I would be bored within minutes. Once you start playing it with friends, it is hands down (not DayZ exclusively but arma in general) the best online gaming experience you can have. And this comes from a very jaded PC gamer. I have exhausted the PC gaming selection, including the very best it has to offer including Mount and Blade, Battlefield 2 (+ mods), Thief series, World of Tanks, CSS, hitman series, various racing games including the refined 'pro' stuff, Hearts of Iron, SC1 and 2, Close Combat series, the list goes on. Arma (starting with the original OFP) is the one game that keeps me coming back, primarily because of mods like ACE and my excellent realism squad. Find a group of guys you enjoy playing with, and every other game will pale in comparison. That is, so long as you appreciate the finer things in gaming.

    M4A1 CCO's Aimpoint not accurate

From an experienced ArmA player... The regular and SD ammo have different muzzle velocities and masses, therefore different parabolic curves. The bullet actually flies over the zero-point before reaching the distance that the sights are zeroed at. Therefore, when aiming below the distance the sight is set to, you have to aim a little below the target. I hope this makes sense. As to suppressed weapons in the game- As per real life, there are subsonic rounds, and weapon suppressors. For maximum effectiveness they must be used together. Subsonic rounds do not produce the telltale 'crack' as they fly overhead that allows players to detect the direction of the shot, at the cost of reduced damage. Weapon suppressors, of course, reduce the audio signature of the shot itself, making you harder to pinpoint. As with players, the AI is affected by both, they detect you based on the original shot volume, as well as the supersonic crack that is produced afterwards. At least, that is the case in the original game, and as far as I know the mod doesn't change anything to do with ballistics. I hope this was helpful.
  10. And i'm not talking about the whole bandits vs survivors thing. The game/mod will be born as a result not only of its 'creators', but the community as a whole, as with everything that BIS has ever been involved with. So how about we all make a little more of an effort to act like adults and not go straight for the jugular when someone posts something that you don't agree with, even if you are 100% certain that they simply cannot be right in any way. There are more and more things appearing in these forums that result in flame wars, more often than not ending up in embarrassing revelations that make those who assume the whole 'You're getting it all wrong stupid nub' look the most foolish of all, including DayZ 'officials'. The beauty of ArmA and its mods is how organic they are. Many things have and will continue to change, many of these things will not be in your favour, some of them will be, but let's take them all in our stride so that when this reaches something pertaining to finality, we can all look back on the development process and be proud to have been there, as opposed to ashamed to being amongst such people. This goes for everyone, DayZ 'officials', moderators, server admins, survivors and bandits (sorry if I have forgotten any other group). The game presents enough challenges as it is, both in terms of gameplay and bugs, as do the players in the game, let's not sabotage our enjoyment and memories of it by being the worst community behind a mod ever seen. If you promise to try harder then I will too. Peace and love ;-) xxx
  11. So at first I was ecstatic to hear that hackers would be immediately global banned. Then I heard a friend from my realism unit (which has the highest standards in the community as far as I'm concerned, and has never allowed in anyone who is anything less than an excellent teamplayer, let alone a hacker or TKer) 'Big Oso' was on the first global ban list and no one on the DayZ team would even hear his complaints. It seems that he stumbled upon a dead bandit in the forest (no surprise that bandits are more likely to be hackers, cowards will do as cowards do) and tried to loot the body. It must have been carrying hacked equipment as it appeared as invisible and he assumed nothing had entered his inventory. He then realised he could fire these invisible weapons, which included an assault rifle with 300 rnds/mag and an AT4 with a similar hack or something along those lines. After he realised this, he offloaded all of the ammo into the air and dropped the equipment so that no one would be able to use it, presumably the right thing to do. Then he logged in two weeks later to find that he had been banned. I'm sure these cases are unusual, but I am disgusted that no one will even hear his complaints. As a community member since the OFP demo back in 2001, I am truly disgusted by what the DayZ mod is doing to the BIS ethos, and think that things will only get worse if the moderators do not distance themselves from the childish, inhuman, and unhelpful mentalities that many of these newly arrived DayZ players propagate. I remember when BIS team members would talk to us and help us, and I hope that this perversion of the business and community ethos does not spread to ArmA proper, or I imagine that myself and many of the members who have been loyal, through the Codemasters fiasco and all else, will turn our backs on something that we consider one of the final bastions of good business models in the gaming industry. Please sort it out guys, as it has been a long and pleasant journey so far.

    Today was a good day.

Glad you died :-p Wasn't luck, its banditry/murder and well deserved bad karma hehe. Wouldn't really stand up in court would it? "I didn't kill him and rape his wife your honour, I just got really lucky".
  13. You sound like you would appreciate ArmA 2 proper with things like ACE mod and a good team of guys. Look into online groups that run well organised games, and generally not PvP stuff. Unless of course you ONLY want to play a zombie game, i'd say try it out. ArmA (for some of us the original Operation Flashpoint) was the game we had always been waiting for. Maybe many of the things you enjoy about this mod you will find in well organised games of ArmA. And let me just say the single player campaign + missions are nothing to go by, they are just filler so that mainstream consumers won't bitch about it being an incomplete product. ArmA is a sandbox, DayZ is just one of its expressions.

Barbed Wire > Players < Zombies

Nice Ranger Creed reference. And yeah I imagine it was designed with anti-player purposes in mind. They claimed to have fixed the no-clip zombie bug, but I was fisted by one through a concrete wall today, then had another 3 no-clip through a barn wall.

    Alrighty...

It is very unfortunate yes, but the price of being new to Arma, and investing time and energy into what is still very much an Alpha-stage mod, or even misclicking. The mod changes little (actually pretty much nothing) in reality of the basic framework, and long-term persistence was never really a feature before this mod. So what was a convenient option before is now a deathtrap. Again, it is an Alpha, and the price of not being experienced with the engine and it's oh so many idiosyncrasies. Believe me, this is not the first one you will stumble upon. Even the most experienced DayZ player who is new to the ArmA series is going to have many more surprises in store ;-)

    The 'Ban Appeals' Forum

So would you prefer it if the ban appeals threads were locked to the banned used and the admin of the server he's banned from? I'm considering making this into a poll... Certainly not a bad idea, although they should also be able to allow in representatives, such as myself, in case they are pretty new to the game and don't know the terminology/aren't native English speakers/other reasons they might need a third party to help. I loved DayZ until I had to deal with its 'community'. It is the polar opposite of what I know of the ArmA community, really an ugly bunch (probably not the majority, but unfortunately the loud-mouthed arses drown out all the reasonable voices).
  17. Well i'm glad the intrigue of this brings a little excitement to your lives. When I have 'official' information, I will post it. Until then, chill out, perhaps even play the mod.
  18. See, this is the kind of nonsense reactions I get when I try to pass on the only information I have on request. Grow up.
  19. Yeah, I have nothing better to do than invent an elaborate troll story that is neither particularly severe nor provocative, because I get a kick out of mildly annoying people rather than going full whack. Come on, you are beginning to sound paranoid. His name on the ban list, as I have said, is 'Big Oso' and is the last player on the first list when the global ban thread was started a while back. As I said I am representing him, as the theory was a third party might not be received with as much suspicion, but this has not been the case lol. When I know more, I shall inform you. Right now all I can do is pass on the conversations - Here is a selection of highlights - "so apparently at some point of not playing DayZ for a few weeks im now banned for life. and the dev. team have posted in other posts that the global ban is from battle eye not them and there are no "false positives" and they "cant do anything about it". im a little upset to say the least." ME - "Lol I saw your name in the first list of global bans Oso - there were only 10 names or so in the list so they must have hand-picked you. Are you sure you didn't use any hacks/cheats, because that is the only thing they ban for, apart from exploits such as killing people in the respawn forest and things like that..." Him - "i have never hacked, which is why this blind sided me. there in only one time that i can think of and that is on my first or second day of playing and where i was walking through the woods and i looted a dead bandit i found in the woods. Not really know what the stuff was or if it was going to be useful i took everything i could. i picked up the stuff but i didnt see any of it my inventory though. so i continue to walk around assuming that what he had had glitched out of my inventory. so i i come into a town with zeds. i found out by accident i had the guns from the bandit , (they where invisible and could shoot 500 rounds with out reloading, plus a full auto AT launcher of some kind) so i shot all the rounds so people couldn't pick it up from my dead body later. i then died soon after from a zed encounter with no ammo. that's the only time i can think off that might have caused this. but that was a little over a month ago and i haven't played DayZ much anyways. this is complete bullshit." .... "I do like the Salem witch hunt mentality "Your are a Hacker!" "No I'm not. How do I prove I'm not" "You cant! The evidence is irrefutable!" "What evidence?" "Don't bother contacting us about global ban appeals, it wont change." " ME - "Ah it must have been that then. We can back you up on the forums I guess, nothing else I can think of." Him- "YAY!!!!!!!!!!! BattlEye tech support are gonna look into my case!!!!! cross your fingers they can find out what happened." .... "so im NOT banned by BattlEye. HA! see im not a hacker! still i wonder why i was perma banned because in my whole DayZ playing time i never killed a player. had one opportunity to kill a bandit, but i lost that gun fight, weak ass makarovs." Clearly, he didn't understand the way people are banned, let alone how someone might go about exploiting the game, he is fairly new to this all. Intel pending...
  20. Maybe not from one of you DayZ kiddies sure. But we are community veterans. There is a marked difference. At the very least' date=' I expect a DayZ team member to hear him out, there was clearly a flaw in the first setup that detected hackers. [/quote'] uhg. i was on your side till your arrogant and self righteous head disappeared up your ass. you claim honour and valour yet you act like a tool online. i hope you and your band of circlejerks stay banned, less asshole in DZ makes for better gameplay I'm sorry that you are unable to understand why i'm doing what I can to draw a line between certain playing styles and attitudes and my own, but really that you turn to personal and childish insults just because I state my opinion in a somewhat reactionary, in your words 'arrogant' way, doesn't really do your argument any help. Really, you don't want guys like me banned, because we form teams, do not murder, exploit, hack or cheat, and do what we can to balance out the prevalence of selfish playing styles. There is something about internet anonimity that brings out the worst in people, so I am sure you aren't this unpleasant in real life. I stand by my point, there is a marked difference between community veterans and your 'average' DayZ player, anyone who has been around a while (i.e. from BEFORE ArmA 2) can see that, whether they voice that opinion is another matter. Back on point - From the banned player: 'so im NOT banned by BattlEye. HA! see im not a hacker! still i wonder why i was perma banned because in my whole DayZ playing time i never killed a player. had one opportunity to kill a bandit, but i lost that gun fight, weak ass makarovs.' They are still looking into his case, but clearly there has been a mess-up, either on the database or elsewhere. All you rude and unhelpful individuals can start eating your hats.
