    Nah, I think it was actually Otmel, south of Kamyshovo. And yes, while not very realistic, you *can* fill your water bottles in the ocean and drink it... For all intents and purposes of this mod the ocean is fresh water. But my point remains... A drinkable ocean, wells, ponds, etc. and you can literally die of dehydration right next one, even swimming in one in this mod unless you have a canteen to fill and drink from.

    Drinking from wells

    Yeah, it's been mentioned before. Once I was being pursued by a large horde of zed and took to the water to swim to that island north of Elektro as my means of escape. I lost my backpack in doing so and the canteen I kept inside it. This kept me alive a little bit longer but the blinking water icon irritated me as there was "drinking water" (in the ocean!??!) all around me and I couldn't drink a drop.

  7. What he said. Also as an experienced player I can tell you, while I understand your desire to at least try and play it during "daytime" I think you will quickly find that daytime is at least as dangerous as night time, probably much, much more.

    Zombies spawn in prone

    The solution is to adjust zombie spawn check so it won't put any that close to you in the first place. It's coming, I'm sure. Remember, "it's an alpha."

    MERGED: Night time, darkness, gamma

    I merged these threads with the hopes that some of you might actually bother to read before posting. How "dark" night time is in DayZ is VERY hardware dependent. I've personally seen this game played on three different machines including my own and it's vastly different between all of them. Vid card, drivers, and even monitor can make a substantial difference. For what it's worth I run a GTX465 with the latest beta drivers and gamma does almost *nothing* on my machine. The only solution, in my opinion, is to LOWER the bar. Make nighttime meh, ok, to see in no matter what card/monitor/driver combination you have. This would mean fewer would care to boost whatever settings they can and over all would provide a more even playing field.

  12. You know, it occurred to me today that DayZ isn't the right mod for this, at least in it's current incarnation. We need something MUCH more PVP, where at least you can avoid friendly fire, since there won't be none of that 3rd person, flaming name tag shit in a real war, right? Here's hoping rocket finds time to find some way of facilitating DayZ "competitive mode" or whatever... Or if you guys decide war is more fun than killing zed, let me know what mod you settle on. I'd pick up a weapon in that just for the giggles.

    Ruining ARMA 2?

    This mod has been growing with new players since day one. The only difference is that now the player base is increasing by THOUSANDS of new players per day rather than the couple of hundred we saw when it was very new. Even the guys that might have been interested in just Arma2 are now saturated. What we are seeing now is large numbers of players from games that don't in anyway resemble Arma2 or any mods for it, EVE online for example, and they bring with them a different way of looking at PVP, games and the community that surround them. It doesn't mean that they can't be "good" DayZ players (whatever that means) but rather that they are jumping into a mod without the experience and forethought that a lot of us that had an Arma family game installed *before* DayZ came along might have. Give them, the new players, the benefit of the doubt. They will either slowly conform to a play style more compatible with DayZ or they will leave when COD6 or WOWIV comes out.

    Enlarging the map

    No, the servers can't and the base game can't. Chernarus was selected because it's the largest map in Arma2 that runs half way efficiently. As someone who has spent months learning how to map this game, that sort of efficiency isn't easy (I was once told that *each* tree is placed by hand to be as efficient as possible). Arma3 will offer better, hopefully, but for now Chernarus is likely going to be the best you are going to see on this engine. On a tangent what about servers that incorporate a portal system, so when you reach the edge (dry edge) of one map you are teleported to a server running the *next* map over? In theory this could allow a bunch of servers to handle a MUCH larger map overall at the expense of player slots on a given portion. I think this is the way that some MMO's actually work, might work here too. I dunno.

I come from a community with an established forum that's over a decade old, over 2,000 registered members and we've played everything under the sun, including EVE, which I abandoned for thinking it a bit too hostile (gay) for my day-to-day likes. The one thing people need to realize (the OP and target in question obviously do) is that while you can be a ruthless asshole in the game... this forum is NOT the game. I too am curious to see how this ends up. As far as I know it's the first inter-clan squabble in DayZ. Please be patient, make more popcorn, and watch the fun. I appreciate the rest of you containing any off-topic trolling, flaming, etc. to yourselves, at least as long as this thread is open. Thanks in advance.

    EXPLANATION OF ALPHA!

    A lot of the complaints I've read have been from people that purchased A2:CO just to play this mod. They feel somehow entitled to a complete, stable, and well balanced game (which they did truly purchase!) since they spent money to play DayZ. I only wish the articles and reviews I've read would stress the word "ALPHA" more, as in "YMMV" and "Play at your own risk!" I've said it before and I'll say it again... You are either an Alpha *Tester* or you are not. If you don't want to be one then I recommend not playing until this mod at least reaches a "Beta" designation.
