There are only two kinds of DayZ players: Good alpha testers and bad alpha testers. Which one are you? -
The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD
oktyabr replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for all useful feedback as alpha testers! After all, having people to test it is likely the only reason the public is allowed to play it in the first place. I'm sure rocket appreciates the clear, concise posts which will help him fine tune the system better for the next patch. Keep up the good work! -

I just want more matches! And maybe a way to build a fire indoors. -
"new skins" should be coming soon with the removal of the bandit one. I'm going to guess that cold weather gear, etc. will likely be part of that.

Meh, I like the new inventory system and if it speeds up the code then sweet. Bandaging in a split second isn't realistic. Why were bandages even included as pistol slot gear in the first place? Now I wouldn't complain if you didn't bleed out quite as quick...

[FIXED?] Too many zombies DISCUSSION
oktyabr replied to yoski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup. I stick with my initial "wish list" zed count: as many as rocket can stuff in the servers with slower respawn and further away from players but with waves of zed starting on the "dry" edges of the map and moving towards the coast. Maybe more guns & ammo... I want a war with zombies! -

[FIXED?] Too many zombies DISCUSSION
oktyabr replied to yoski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't played enough yet to detect much of a difference. I still want 1000+ (2000? 3000?!?! :D ) all the time and at least 10% of those wandering around in the woods and on the roads. -

You Do Not Get a Cold From Being Cold
oktyabr replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Like I said in OP' date=' I support the temperature condition, simply not the effects. Re: Oktyabr, other overly hostle detractors: The difference between zombies, morphine curing broken bones (getting broken bones from falling off a doorstep) and bandages curing bullet wounds is that these things are [b']OVERTLY FICTIONAL whereas the idea of cold temperatures causing colds has a seductive 'logic' to it that too many people already believe. As to the antibiotic cure, well that's a much bigger issue. There are a lot of doctors out there who will prescribe antibiotics as if they were paracetamol, and the majority of the populace doesn't realize it's an issue because antibiotic resistant bacteria are confusing and rarely in the mainstream. Once again its usage in Dayz to cure a cold is SUBTLE with no general knowledge/experience on the player's part to contradict it. Nah, not overtly hostile, really... My reply was more tongue in cheek because I know that rocket tries DAMN hard to code something that will work "realistically" and gets concerned when things like "cold", (perhaps a poor choice of words?) sets off a bonfire of reactive posts, most without any first hand experience in how it's actually implemented (i.e., they haven't even tried it yet!) You should have seen the long, heated threads about past updates! I appreciate your concern and admire your medical knowledge, sincerely I mean that... but to nitpick something that has absolutely no direct impact on the game or how it's played (the choice of words) is just... I'll let you pick the end to that one. Incidentally do you know the historic idiom behind "catch a cold"? It predates modern medicine and surely antibiotics. While the use of that phrase is still a well used antiquated remnant of history long past I think it very rare that anyone in the civilized world would seek the use of antibiotics and further that no licensed physician would prescribe them for the "common cold". And yet various strains of flu, more serious infections like pneumonia, even some serious STDs can manifest themselves in a way that "I think I'm coming down with a cold." is one of the first (amateur) prognosis. Ease up and apply yourself to hypothermia or something, things that could still use work. -
Assemble a trading post from three or four items. Once assembled it might appear as some larger tents with a campfire in the middle of them or similar. Keep active by adding fuel to fire every few hours, etc. Fire must be kept burning but does not require constant supervision. Fire goes out so does the non-PVP properties of the zone. Parts can only be disassembled and moved once fire is out. Acts as a temporary non-PVP zone, about the size of a city block. Bullets fired in the zone (or into/out of) the zone do no damage to players but still kill zombies. Players approaching trading post zone will be informed of "non-PVP zone" status when they cross the zone border. This makes a safe place to trade items, get transfusions (if anyone has any blood), meet with friends and maybe form new groups. A bandit with enough blood would do well to set up a transfusion station there ;) A more advanced version would have only one or two entrances and the players who set up the trading zone could charge admission (drop anything down to get in that isn't a flare or lit chemlight).

You Do Not Get a Cold From Being Cold
oktyabr replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What a fucking waste of forum space. Has anyone even played the thing yet?!?!? It's a *game* and a cold is the least of your concerns in this one... fucking rotting bodies laying all over the place, some virus that's turned the majority of the populace into flesh eating animals, NO working sewer (yeah, I know there are outhouses but I have yet to see anyone use one... that deuce you left in that apartment bedroom doesn't count, filthy fuckers!), NO heat, flies EVERYWHERE and pretty much everyone that isn't a zombie has been wearing the same clothes for WEEKS without a bath and have at least one untreated bullet wound festering away. And you guys are arguing about antibiotics and the common cold? /me shakes head in disappointment -

Please do NOT bump but if anyone wants to say "thanks" or "I joined the Facebook group" or whatever that will serve the same purpose. (Like I just did!) :D

Let all "newbies" beware that not everything may be as it first seems. The clan in question has a recruitment thread in Survivor HQ: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3240 Closing this thread but leaving it up as an example.

HOLY SH*T ZOMBIES CLIMB LADDERS
oktyabr replied to curiousepic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Heh! I know there are a lot of players that swear up and down that the zed don't climb... Bullshit. Had half a dozen follow me up a PIPE on the side of a building once. They might not climb often (I think it can take them awhile for the AI routines to decide which one goes up first) but they WILL climb. -
Matchbooks - simultaneous fix for dark nights, keeping warm, and regaining blood
oktyabr replied to curiousepic's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the idea. Even more that you might find a lighter that is superior to a (limited) number of matches. Of course you really need to think it through a little deeper... if matches/lighters are made more realistically common then so should knives... what house any where in the world doesn't at least have a knife in it??! Ok, so then you have fire and knives more readily available... and everyone is hunting. Now there is a shortage of wildlife. Ok, find a way to bump the wildlife spawns up. On the other hand just implement one of the many "regain blood = ((food+water)*time)/X ideas that have been posted. This would decrease the amount of hunting done solely to regain blood and +1 for more reality at the same time. Eh, too much coffee this morning ;) -

Good point, good post. I've thought the same myself many times.

Actually they are not faster. You can run from one end of the map to the other with zed behind you without getting caught, if you plan your route carefully. What a lot of new players aren't aware of is that this mod (and the game it's rooted in) has several different movement modes... the fastest is found by standing up and double tapping your forward movement key holding it down on the second tap.
