Hey up, I can't find any ref to this, so here goes... What about being able to find those torches used for camping that you wear on your head with a strap? Also, it'd be great for all forms of torches to lose battery power, and flicker or gradually fade-this would also be good for flickering if damaged until fixed? Anyway, my two cents but it'd add heaps of tense immersion.

do you think peripheral dots will be in dayz standalone?
meshcarver replied to Pixelwarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just don't think it's worth including peripheral vision at all... It's already in because of arma basically. DAYZ really doesn't need it imo, it helps break immersion too. What's the point of trying to fully reduce screen clutter hud when you've got floating blobs everywhere..? -

...and to add to that, do we see white floating blobs in real life..? ...no... ...the white blobs must be killed... Kill 'em all... -

Get rid of them... Leave it to the player to see hidden dangers themselves. Anything else is baby walking them. I like this game because it leaves things upto you, the player- when it helps you with toys it breaks immersion whilst taking potential encounters away from you by simply avoiding "white blobs"... Seriously not good. -
I think the brightness is possibly because your post processing is on high, it sort of blooms everything out too much mate. I have mine disabled as it looks sharper... Try that.

Nice little intro vid mate, keep it up and ignore the petty comments... ;)

Make taking a shit play like Daley Thompson's Decathlon
meshcarver replied to meshcarver's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
For players who buy the limited edition of SA, as a bonus when they take a shit, they can collect the nuts and corn as extra rations to give a +5 health boost. "What happens in the woods, stays in the woods." -

One thing I love about DayZ...
meshcarver replied to Tomas889's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I played dayz from more or less the star, but stoppedvabout 2/3 months ago becausevof script kids. The adrenaline rush you can get from playing this is amazing. I had something happen that has never happened to me in a game before, and it happened twice! My hands started to literally shake! First tome, i was alone in a town, sneaked in past zeds and was at the far end of a house with just one exit open to me, but the room also had two open windows. I hear footsteps slowly crunch on the gravel right outside one of the windows. I freeze. Then, i hear footsteps slowly tread on the wooden floorboards inside my little house, slowly getting closer and closer... Theres nowhere else for me to go, as hes between me and the exit, so i hide behind the door to try to cover the whole room, all this while zeds milling around outside. This is when my hands started uncontrollably shaking so badly my gun was going everywhere lol. Just a simple thing of hearing someones careful footsteps in the same house!!! Then, i hear them carefully approach the doorway that im right in the corner of, and see a gun point into the room and stop. To say i got an adreneline rush wouldnt do it justice lol... There was a few loot items on the floor right in front of me, so the guy goes to them and starts checking, i say "friendly!" From right behind him! He turns and points the gun at me so i manage to blow him away, panic like a wuss then bolt out of the town, log out under a bush and reflect on how awesome the entire simple scenario was... So yeah, this game has got everything i always wanted in a game... Amazing stuff. :) -
You've summed up exactly how I felt about it too, when I used to play. (Waiting for SA because of hackers)

...talking about release, I'm sure I remember him saying something about a Limited Edition did he not? Rocket, can you confirm this please and make us all happy killers? ;)

Really great news about re-balancing the map focus points and hopefully lots more players, but I hope its still in mind that one of the other aspects of this game thats a good draw is to also have vast areas of unpopulated wilderness. So basically theres still a lot of areas that people can go for solitude or just to survive solo and unhindered, unless by bands of roving bandits. Im sure you guys have your powder dry on that one though. :) -

...this guy is the best thing to happen to pc gaming in over a decade imo. Not only has he shown that not all pc gamers want the same old levels, pointless points, baby step helpers and virtual (read: meaningless) medals etc, hes also just put minds at rest with three small sentences and shown his intention too. We dont get enough of this kind of thing in the games industry. -
...just thinking about how cool it'd be to have a lootable item, a hand held camera that takes batteries, and that you have to equip it- or maybe not so you can use it with a pistol at the same time. You press record and basically yeah, you get grainy wobbly footage straight from a horror flick for checking out later. Perhaps a night-vision mode..? It's more of a "fun/immersive" item than useful, but I'd imagine youtube would be full of handheld cam footage hours after it got introduced..! I'm not sure ARMA 2 engine can record like this, but obviously you'd have to enter another menu after to review/edit your footage. Also, if all this diary stuff gets implemented, then why not leave tapes/discs lying around to show what went down..? Or you find a corpse and it has footage on it- perhaps of the players final moments..? Would be freaky to watch that, seeing the player getting overrun by zeds/players... Also, an option to turn the camera around to point at your face, then you record a personal message into it using direct chat so your characters lips are moving too..? Anyway, I'm drunk and sorry for the typos and poor grammar lol..!!! ;)

I'm bumping this- guys, check these tunes out...
-
Alright soapmak3r..! I'm in work right now listening to your tracks and decided to log in just to offer support. Your music is fucking great mate. I work in the computer games industry as-well so maybe I can offer a little advice to you, as you don't seem too confident in your posts for some reason..? But, a LOT of your ideas and hopes (From what I've read!) for the in game music are very well thought out. There IS a "trigger" system in the ARMA2 engine that is very easy to implement, so that's no problem. As far as the tone/tempo changes go etc, that part's up to you I suppose- more the music side of things. I wouldn't put off contacting Rocket, as I'm sure he'd give your videos some time to view, but perhaps put one together that DOES show your tracks to their best gameplay synced-wise. IE; if chase music is playing, then show someone being chased etc. Anyway man, you're doing a great job and this thread hasn't got the attention it deserves imo. I'm not just here to compliment you- I really do like what you've got going here- this mod does need a pick me up in the tunes dept lol..! ;) Anyway, take it easy, oh, and the soundtrack for THE ROAD is also good insp... I love the more melancholy side of ambient tracks.

Incase this needs a pointer again- ALT-F4 = SUICIDE Great idea..!!! :D

bump, no one else having these problems..?

Hi Link, aye, I know AE man. If memory serves me, there's a few different filters ingame. You apply them like modules I think. There's ones like SEPIA, CONTRAST and HUE etc... It's possibly add quite a lot of atmos to the game...
-
Hey up, some really nice shots in here. I know these are post processed in PS or some other package, but ARMA comes with a post process set of filters, some not to different from some of this look. I wonder if it's worth mentioning it to Rocket wether he could consider choosing one of the filters for a more "gritty" feel than it already has..? There's a few good ones in ARMA2... food for thought..?

I've wasted two hours this evening... giving up now.

Looking for UK survivors.
meshcarver replied to iogc_broadsword's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hi Broadsword, I'm well over 18 (lol) and am a UK based player. I've played ARMA2 in the past, only single player though but am almost completely familiar with it. This mod is THE game I've been waiting for. I'm considering even buying a TrackIR, but want to first see how long I stick with this, as I work in the computer game industry as a 2d/3d artist so you can imagine after a long days work staring at the monitor all day, to come home and do it again into the wee hours can really tire me out. BUT, I love this mod so am trying to stick with it. I'd like to try to team up, or become part of what you're after, but probably CANNOT give you a solid promise that I'll be on every night because of my workload and real life basically. Saying that, if you're willing to have a true team player who wants the chance to get the most out of this mod with teamwork and comms, I'd love to have a go... One other thing, I keep hearing about team-speak..? Could you give me some pointers about this please as I don't know that much about it. Does it cost etc..? Anyway, look forwards to hearing from you. meshcarver
