You guys Your missing the point. He's not arguing distance or even that the zed can see him on the hill. He's saying how does the zed know automatically that its a survivor at that distance? These zed are after all fictional creatures so I guess they can have whatever capabilities that Rocket wants them to have but it just seems like if they have a hunger for living flesh that they would need to get close enough to smell it or at least tell the difference between living and dead flesh ....

Day Z Facts of life: The best way to survive in Dayz is to group up with other players. Solo is still possible but you need to know exactly what to do. If you want to group up with other players then you'll need to do it outside the game. Too dangerous trying to do this in game ATM. Since there is no way to safely group up with strangers in game, shoot everyone you don't know on sight.

Zombies still walking through walls .... Saw this a couple of times yesterday. ... I was prone in the yard of a house in a major town and I hear a Z very close by but could not see it because of a wall surrounding the building. I figured I was safe because I thought he couldn't see me either and I was not moving so sound was also at a minimum. Suddenly the Z came through the wall running directly for me. It was totally unexpected and I only had stater gear so nothing lost other than some time but just wanted everyone to know that walls / fences surround buildings don't necessarily prevent Zeds from walking through them. This may be working as intended ???

If your new to the game take some time now to learn the basics of how Arma works. Go through the single player tutorials and make sure your familiar with all the commands, how to shoot how to drive ... etc. Maybe the game will be running again soon

"m betting your problem has nothing to do with dayz but probably bad sound drivers for whatever card your using ... check with your sound card vendor to see if they have a win 8 driver ....
