Hi all, I bought the game on Steam last night (took hours to download because of the rubbish Steam servers) and will be trying DayZ for the first time tonight. I have looked here for a suitable server but have not seen any in Hong Kong. I am living in Hong Kong with a very good connection (80-90Mbps DL, 30Mbps UL). I know that I can connect to the UK with a typical ping of 300 but I would rather find a server in Hong Kong or nearby where I can keep a ping below 100. English speaking is required because I am a UK expat. I have seen that it is not possible to host a private server or one from your home, are there any Hong Kong or Asia-Pacific hosting options? I would consider paying to run a server if the pricing is reasonable. Thanks in advance. :)

Cannot wait to try the alpha in the Arma III engine :D.

It keeps counting, for each Hive server day that you are alive. Apparently you do not even have to login each day for it to continue counting, but I have not tested it myself.

Will this game run with these specs?
thisisbleep replied to Supershee's topic in New Player Discussion
The CPU is very weak and Arma II is very CPU intensive, this laptop is not a good one for gaming. -
You can use a wired xbox360 controller, but you will not be able to use all of the keybindings. If you search you will find a few other threads, one of which links to a working set-up for Arma which should be close to what you need for DayZ.
-
You can install it on as many PCs as you would like, but are restricted to playing on one at a time, if you want to have multiple accounts or to play with another person at the same time you will need more than one copy of the game.

There is 3 usable helicopters per server (on the original servers), all servers now apparently only have 1 usable helicopter currently and this will be increased later. There are 5-6 crashed helicopters per server.

changing launcher

It won't. The reason it says that is because each program needs a security certificate from Microsoft, which means that they have checked it and say that it is safe. This costs a lot of money, so is not viable for someone who gives out a small and free program like DayZ Commander. -
More hackers encouraged to hack
thisisbleep replied to SiGouin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yay another whining thread about "hackers". Don't play, very simple. Stop posting new threads which complain about something that we already know. -
The game needs parts of Operation Arrowhead which are only in the paid version. Buying the game also supports BIS and Rocket. As I said, if you want to play buy the game (Arma II and OA), just like any other game that you want to play. If you are one of those people who expect free games and pirate everything, go get a job and start contributing.

You can have a "blank" name and apparently they can hide their name tags etc., so it really will not help at all.

Dear Rocket, Reset please.
thisisbleep replied to Strategos (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes it would be nice, but it would end up in the same situation after a few days. You need to stop: - Duplication exploit of items - Cheaters spawning items Realistically the first one can be stopped, but the cheaters are not going anywhere until the standalone is released unless something drastic happens with BattlEye. -

Try using "DayZ Commander", it will get the mod running for you, without worrying about updating files etc. -
Recently Picked Up Items Poofing.

There is no way of knowing. Don't get attached to your items, there are still lots of bugs. -
I got teleported to the middle of the ocean
thisisbleep replied to Scooter722's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Swim north-west towards land, but it is just easier to let your character die and respawn. -
Vehicles spawn with items in them, there is no "hacking" involved.

My friends were pissed, Banned each other from my server...
thisisbleep replied to Mad_Vengeance (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He already told you, you need to look at the server files. It is pretty self explanatory which file if you looked. -
The wiki is from user generated content, so it needs to be updated to reflect the recent changes. http://dayzdb.com/ also has some information which you might find useful. The M4A1 Holo has a grenade launcher, is that what you mean? http://dayzdb.com/database/m4a1-holo No weapons have been added or removed by Rocket.

Congratulations Community, You have become scum.
thisisbleep replied to bloodjackal77's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Congratulations on making another thread which consists of stuff that we already know. Whining threads are not going to help in the slightest, if you do not like the current situation play a different game for now and come back once the standalone has been released. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
thisisbleep replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I never said that you could not have fun whilst testing and helping develop DayZ, but that is not the goal of the alpha release. If we did not enjoy it we would not play, but it means that if something negative happens (e.g. a bug or cheater) you should not start jumping up and down. We know that this is alpha and what the purpose is (to develop DayZ into a standalone game which we can all play and enjoy). If you play on a private server you are not helping at all, which defeats the whole point. Yes you might have more fun, but again, that is not why we are here. -
The underdoome and Mass teleport massacre
thisisbleep replied to pvthoch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is a script which a cheater can run on any server. -
This is already in place, if a vehicle is not used for so many days it will respawn. The people who own the vehicles just login often enough to reset the timer. If you want a vehicle check the maps which show the spawn locations and look in the woods on the Western and Northern edges of the map.
-
It will not report the hacker's name if they spawn you in the air, so that you fall to your death, etc. Ultimately it will not stop it, the server admins can go through the server logs and find who the hackers are. As a player you cannot do anything, just move on or don't play the mod for now.

I stopped reading when I saw grenades. :P -
I really wish Rocket would get this made into a stand-alone game!!
thisisbleep replied to Slackin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you took the time to do some research you would know the answer. Rocket is an BIS employee, he was developing DayZ in his spare time during the development of Arma III. Since the success of DayZ, BIS have moved him and some other people to work full-time on DayZ. BIS pay Rockets salary, therefore buying Arma II gives BIS money to pay his salary. I expect that the standalone will use the Arma III engine, so Rocket and BIS will make money from this.
