The underdoome and Mass teleport massacre
thisisbleep replied to pvthoch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The ease of cheating come from the developer of Arma II. BIS have known about this since the game was released but have not stopped it and with the way that they game is designed they probably cannot stop it entirely. Making a thread and complaining about it is not going to help anyone, either ignore it and keep playing or wait until the standalone is released. We can only hope that Arma III will not have such problems. -
Just buy the game if you want to play the mod, that is how it works with all games.

Hackers on DayZ ( Not a Rant, More of a Thank You?)
thisisbleep replied to felixthedk@vikingkids.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The good thing about it all is that BIS and Rocket know that if they let cheating be this easy in Arma III and the standalone DayZ game, they will be crucified. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
thisisbleep replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Short answer: You are not contributing to help develop and test the mod, this is the whole reason why we are here. Rocket could not care less if you are having a good time, that is not the point of releasing the alpha version of DayZ. Shorter answer: Don't be a leech. EDIT: Also the private servers typically have BattlEye disabled and the cheaters love those, because they won't get banned for cheating. More likely to find cheaters on a non-Hive server for this reason and because they can truly grief you when you have no other servers to play on with that character. -
SEATTLE 1337/ US 1008 getting hacked
thisisbleep replied to reau's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Post on the servers board, even then it won't stop it happening. The best way to stop cheaters is just change to a different server. The fact that everyone keeps posting on the forums and whining about it means that they are winning, you are giving them attention and feeding their egos. -
I really wish Rocket would get this made into a stand-alone game!!
thisisbleep replied to Slackin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It takes years to develop a good game, either be patient with the mod or go play something else and wait a long time for the final release. Hopefully the standalone will be based from the Arma III engine, that way most of the work is done already, but there is still lots to do to turn that into a zombie survival game. -
changing launcher
thisisbleep replied to WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
The link that you provided is to make a new thread on the "New Player Discussion" board. You are going to have to be a bit more specific, I do not understand your problem. Is this related to when you click on the game shortcut? -
Weapon disappears & other questions
thisisbleep replied to Zeronium's topic in New Player Discussion
Items can fall through the floor when in buildings and on slopes, it is best to find a nice flat piece of ground and drop some tin cans or something which you can afford to lose. If the item that you dropped can be picked up, add the items which you want to give to your friend to the same loot pile, that way you will not lose your items. -
I just shot a survivor 3 times at point blank and he didn't die...
thisisbleep replied to kragz's topic in New Player Discussion
Blaming everything on hackers is getting old.... Realistically if they was cheating they would have had a better gun etc. -
It is against the rules. Whilst you could do it, you would not be helping Rocket to develop the mod. We are here to test and assist in the development of DayZ, that is more important than "playing" the game. Just use a public server, there are problems with cheaters but everyone has the exact same situation.

How to reset my character ? ( + VDO )
thisisbleep replied to Carabao's topic in New Player Discussion
Running the incorrect version of DayZ and/or Arma II beta, please update to the latest files and try again. I recommend that you install "DayZ Commander" and it will do it for you. -
Plz help a newb enter hospitals and a couple other things! thanks!

1. Hit the windows with a hatchet or use a tin can, don't waste ammo and attract zombies by shooting your gun. If the glass does not break after 1 hit move to the next one. There is a small chance that you have desynced from the server and the glass is broken but you cannot see it, logging out and back in will fix this. 2. Depends on the situation and how you play the game. 3. When you climb ladders the game lowers your weapon before you get on the ladder, sometimes it forgets to raise the weapon back up after you get off of the ladder, double click ctrl to raise the weapon up. This only happens with the primary weapon (cannot lower the secondary) and you can see if it has happened by looking to see if the gun is pointing downwards. Another easy way to fix it is switch weapons. 4. "Rearm" is an Arma II feature, just ignore it. For ammo boxes it should fill your spare inventory slots with the same ammo as your primary weapon but I have not tried it. -
They spawn with fuel in them.

Can't collect meat- Am I doing it wrong?
thisisbleep replied to Discordic's topic in New Player Discussion
You need to take time and find the spot where you can loot the animal, it is hard to find. There is meat on the animal, you just didn't find the correct location to loot it. -
It is always worth waiting a while before logging out, if you do anything important (e.g. pick up a new weapon), in case the server has not yet updated to the Hive. I have lost my backpack before when logging in, I was wearing a ghillie suit at the time, so blamed it on that. Please remember that you are testing an alpha stage mod, don't expect there to be no bugs. We are here to find them and remove them, along with helping rocket develop the mod.

Zombies have a chance to randomly spot you from a further distance than previously, which is why some aggro and not others. Keep out of their line of sight as much as possible to reduce the chance of it happening. In some cases it might be better to run between cover then crawl or slowly crouch walk. Regarding moving around whilst prone, I do not recommend it because you move so slowly. When entering buildings you have to stand up and if a zombie aggros it takes quite a while to stand up and start running. I find it best to stick with crouch walking near zombies because you can start running by double tapping W and not get hit.

Motherboard is a "Mini ATX" so you only get 2 ram slots, 1 PCI and 1 PCI-E. This limits you to what you can add later. I have that graphics card, it can run the game easily on high settings. There is a guide for graphics settings, e.g. disable certain settings, which will ensure maximum FPS. The PSU is cheap, which is much more likely to surge and destroy every component in the PC. Not a good thing to lose your PC, I have never encountered this but I have always used Corsair, Thermaltake or Cooler Master (the cooler master ones which are sold separately and not included in the cheap desktop case). Ram is the 1333 MHz kind, which is the slowest DDR3. You will not notice it, but people who build gaming PCs use 1600 or 2000 MHz typically. Will be more than what you need, but it is limited to upgrading later on if that is what you want.

Distant textures don't render - so I can't snipe (video)
thisisbleep replied to Gashed's topic in New Player Discussion
Visibility is set by the server, but 2000 is good to have. A recent Arma II beta added distance fog, which stops you seeing past 1000m. -
I personally don't see what all the fuss is. I tried it once and it tasted exactly the same as Sprite, and I don't like that so you can guess what I thought about Mountain Dew. <_<

Next patch should correctly add the option to respawn if your legs are broken, if not you have to find someone to "help" you respawn. It was taken out to stop the idiots who keep respawning and putting strain on the server (yes I know that you want a specific spawn or to be near your friends, but that is not how the game is designed currently).

thisisbleep replied to kragz's topic in New Player Discussion
Probably desync, either you or the other player did not register the hits. The server trusts each game client, which can cause problems like this and also makes the cheating so easy to do in Arma II. -
Zombies have better senses on veteran?
thisisbleep replied to solidsnake808's topic in New Player Discussion
They can see much better, there is a random chance of them seeing you from further than before, so try to stay out of their line of sight. If you get groups running after you, then you most likely made a loud noise. -
Quick question about loading screen.
thisisbleep replied to Partywaffle's topic in New Player Discussion
The loading is down to the server, some are much faster than others. It probably is also related to when the server last restarted and how often it restarts. -
Login once a day and it should keep counting, I have not tested if the counter goes up on days where you do not login at all.

The "Arma:X" character ID problem is fixed now, as long as the server is up-to-date.
