Are you using Windows 7 or Windows Vista? Does your user account have administrator priviledges (you can tell by being able to install programs etc.)? On Windows 7 if you right click over the shortcut there should be a "run as administrator" option. If you open the priorities there should also be an option to make it be the default when you double click on it.

It might run on low settings. Download "Arma II Free" and see if you can play it, that will give a good indication on what FPS and graphical settings you can achieve. Looks like you need a new PC though, if you want to play recent PC games.

Update to the latest version of DayZ and only play on the updated servers, quite a few servers are out of date and if your client version does not match the server it will cause problems such as no zombies. There should be some faint writing on the centre of the screen which mentions that you have the wrong version of DayZ. Getting the latest Arma II beta is also advised, but that will not influence the server problems which you are experiencing.

I would like to see someone run out of hatchet "ammo". I still have not been able to consistently work out where to aim when trying to hit zombies at a distance, the hatchet is actually a gun with very high bullet fall off so there must be an arc which it follows. Several times I have hit zombies from quite a distance away, so it is not very good for a melee simulation, but Rocket has plenty of time to improve on it if he thinks it is needed. I think it would be good to have players start with a crowbar, same as the hatchet but not usable as a tool to cut down trees later. But... it would turn Cherno into a melee battleground.

There are 2 Vietnamese servers and 1 Japanese server, so not many options. You could play on an Australian or New Zealand server, but they tend to be full all of the time and the ping is higher than playing on US servers. I spend most of my time on Russian or US (Seattle) servers. I really wish there was more players in Asia, but that just is not the case at the moment. I am in Hong Kong, but do not get home from work until 7pm at the earliest and I don't have a microphone on my main PC. Maybe in the future when there are more people and a few more Asian servers it will be possible to find a group of survivors/bandits to play with. :-/

It is a sandbox game, there are numerous play styles and strategies that you can choose to follow. If it is too easy you can also limit yourself in-game, e.g. only allowed to eat raw meat and from water canteens, the soda and beans are "contaminated". You can always take a break and play a different game for a while, when you come back in a few weeks there should be a few big changes which makes it interesting. I bought Legend of Grimrock last night, so that should keep me busy whilst I wait for 1.7.2 to come out.

I did read somewhere that there is a chance of being infected (cold, not becoming a zombie) when hit by a zombie, but I am not able to confirm it or remember where I read it.

I have found 3 or 4 ghillie suits and 1 camo suit since I started, luck plays a big part in it. I like finding maps too... dozens of them. :-/

I previously killed a sniper in Cherno and got a murder for it, after he had hit me at least once. It was strange because I did not get the murder straight away, I logged out 5 minutes after the encounter to go to bed, then the next day I had a murder on the debug counter.

Without reading what others have/have not already said. I own the AMD Radeon HD 6770 and it is more than capable of running the game in 1980x1050 with med/high settings. I have not checked the FPS, but it has never been noticeable apart from on laggy servers which cause the game to freeze every 5-10 seconds.

The other day I found 4 ALICE packs and another backpack in the same supermarket and then later on I was on a different server and saw 3 ALICE packs in a red-brick house. I suspect that something is not right with spawning.

It is spelt "meat" and no I have not encountered any issues when looting raw meat from an animal which I have gutted. This includes: Cows, goats, chickens and boars. I have not bothered to kill a rabbit and am not sure if there are any other animals which might be buggy.

I support this, it is not so realistic being forced to run around looking for cans of food to get your blood level up when you should really be resting.

Graphics card? From what you have mentioned so far you will not be able to probably play on anything except the lowest quality settings, assuming your graphics card is a low end one.

Are you sure that you was both using the "direct communication" channel? The default is group so you need to press , or . to change it.

I tried to submit a bug report a few days ago when I experienced this when playing in Cherno, but I was unable to tell what actually was the issue. I suspected some kind of item because it only was visible when facing certain directions and at certain angles. AMD 6770 with up-to-date drivers. I have the newer beta build and have not seen anything similar to this today, but I was only playing on servers which were in the early morning.

That is correct, when you put the ghillie suit on you get "civilian clothing" so you can change back into the starting clothes.

The Winchester uses different ammo. The ones which can be combined from 4 stacks of 2 to make 1 stack of 8 (and vice versa) is the M1014. The M1014 and Remington use the 8 stack type and the double barrelled shotgun uses the 2 stack type.

Vehicles and tents will stay on the same server.
