Im aware that the server restarts every 8 hours. But there was no message indicating that it would restart any time soon. I was on the server for at least 3 hours. Although I don't appreciate your condecending attitude towards someone who was happily enjoying your server. I also have no "solid" evidence that it was someone basically crying about losing their loot. For all I am aware, they could have had more stuff since I wasn't looting them. I only saw what was visual on their back. I just find it very suspicious that I kill 2 people, and then very very soon after, the server restarts with our own stats and equipment modified. With the addition of someone speaking in the chat about admins in what ever language it may have been. Not only that, when I bring my experience forward which I assume that an admin of his own server would look into because there could be something fishy going on... instead he acts the big man behind the computer and ridicules the issue and basically laughs. Not exactly the best of attitudes. Refrain from being childish if you are going to reply to me please. Ridiculing with statements such as "someone said it on the internet so it must be true" and such will be void. I cannot provide proof that this is the case but I do have strong reason to believe with 2 other people who experienced the moment with me. The same as you cannot provide evidence apart from copy and pasted text server logs which could easily be tampered with, and your own "true" word, which has lost its value immediately upon entering and responding to this post in the manner that you did so.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Areoss replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES I don't like handouts. Other players are the biggest concern. Avoiding zombies isnt an issue. Being shot in the face by a new person who spawned behind you is. -
Explore on night servers. The thrill of exploring and knowing how voulnerable you are is intensified by a billion. I travel around in a group with flash lights. Easy to be seen... but also easy to confuse any potential watchers. Especially if they attempt a shot, one of us will have seen the muzzle flare and will point out the direction. We'll all cut our lights and ready up. Possible launch a flare as a distraction and move out and aid the wounded. Brings a whole new dimension to the game.

I avoid other people like the plague. Its kill or be killed. But I take that one step back and use my 1 rule. See or be seen. Then make an informed decision. Don't be seen by anyone. Then establish whether to engage or leave them stroll by. Attempt to make voice communication, let them know you can see them but stay hidden. I must admit though. I have got 4 friends that I team up with and I have used this technique and will continue to do so, to rob people. Depending on the assessment of the situation we do it in various ways. We either make communication and tell them to halt or we will kill them. If they choose to ignore, give them a second warning. If no joy then shoot on sight. If they respond and halt, then basically hold their life for ransom. Either by telling them to drop food on the spot or ammo and then continue to move on. Or tell them to hold still and send one guy out to them while the rest of us have our sights on him incase of any funny stuff. If they call my bluff, then I will reveal one of our locations. If he believes thats just it, I will reveal one more location. If they continue to question I will shoot them. Gotta be firm. We wont take everything though. Im not that much of a bad person. Just anything that may be of use to us and then let him carry on with his life and game, and wont lose any essentials. We won't take anyones map or compas or anything like that. Just supplies and then send them on their way. If they open fire, then their head comes off. If they run, their head comes off. Simple as that. I may be a bad guy for doing this... but I don't leave them high and dry. I could break their legs after im done and stop them from bleeding to crawl to where ever they need to be. But I am not that cruel.

DayZ is the most fun ive had playing a zombie game. No other game has made my heart race when I was aiming down my scope at an un knowing survivor holding out about 800 meters away... curled up in a corner crying, hoping not to be seen by the wandering dead, deciding whether to take the shot or not. Wondering if I would miss or not. Wondering if I would attract a horde of zombies to my location... is it worth it? Will I benifit? or will I get my self killed. Then a sense of morality can take effect... How would I feel if I got shot in that situation. I wouldn't want it to happen to me. As I am clutching on to my life. But then again you think about being humane too... shall I put him out of his suffering and misery...? These decisions make the game better on its own, because of the risk factor. I love how it weeds out the casual gamer, the one who expects everything on a plate and wants to run and gun. (not pointing fingers) Survival of the fittest. You kill or be killed. Simple as that. Your choices matter on your situation, and can have devistating consiquences as I have found out from experience. Also for those who want to know. I let that guy live. It wasn't worth the risk.

DayZ Staff are overlooking administrative abuse...
Areoss replied to Spartan36's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ive encountered admins abusing their powers as well. From now on i'm going to leave fraps on, and fraps every kill I make to attempt to capture abuse of power. -
They have to bring their servers down and update them. So its as and when the host decides to. I wouldn't say this game has been broken for noobies... because I am infact a new player my self and im getting along just fine. Granted I died a few times learning but I expected that. Btw. Lee Enfield = Dinner Bell. You'll see soon enough. I learned that one the hard way.

Another pretty nooby question here.
Areoss replied to Pvt Parts (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
That I cannot answer. It could have just been a bug because when you prone you should have visibility of 1. -
Thats what makes the G17 so desirable. It does have a torch built into the pistol. It's amazing :)

Some servers take third person off as well as they feel it gives an un realistic advantage. If it wont let you go into third person at all, its probably locked on that server.

Another pretty nooby question here.
Areoss replied to Pvt Parts (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
No it doesn't. It does affect your own awareness though as your screen goes black and white and sometimes shakey, and you can get loss of hearing. Thus could affect your general sneaking abilities since your senses are a bit messed up. So in a round about way... yes. :D -
Lee Enfield is dubbed as the "Dinner Bell". Id recommend not using it unless you HAVE to. Id suggest looking for a barn on the forrest line of the beach. They tend to have basic weapons. You could also butcher another survivor with your hatchet, which can either be a waste of time or very rewarding.

The actions of a “Dayz sounds interesting” noob
Areoss replied to Surg3on's topic in New Player Discussion
Its a simulator, you need to be really careful not to be detected. If you think your near any zombies... lie down. You are very hard to see and hard to hear. Id suggest searching for barns first to arm your self. But be careful, shots can agro more zombies. I died about 5 times before getting the swing of things, don't be diss hearted by the steep learning curve. When you get used to it, it will be second nature to act certain ways, scouting everything before you go in. Litterally a full circle so you know where everything and everyone is. Knowledge is the key. Keep at it. Watch some guides and stuff if that helps. I've only been playing for about 2 days so far and I've just got the hang of it. Id recommend working out where you are straight away and referencing it to an online map so you have your barings and can work out which way you want to go. -
why do people have difficulties starting w/o weapons
Areoss replied to Tikka (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
It's the same with any mod/game that hasnt been created by a massive company. eg, minecraft. You don't get told what to do on that but yet you survive and continue... because you read up on what your supposed to do and how to play. Anyone with any sense would read up and do their homework if they are struggling that bad rather than kicking and screaming. It really is easy to get hold of a weapon, you just need a little map reading skills with one of the online maps that are available. I've been playing for about 2 days now, 4 hours a time. Tonight is my third day. I've died many times but that was because I didn't know how to sneak properly. As of last night I started again (after being shot in the head) and have aquired most of my basic items (matches, map, compas, watch, hatchet, hunting knife) and armed my self up with a nice CZ scope and ammo for my mackrov. I have also in the process of this managed to get my self some food and a bottle to fill with water. Not only that but with a bit of map reading and looking for land marks, I have navigated across the land to reach my friends, sneaking by, looting barns and houses and defended my self from people on numerous occasions who threatened my existance at gun point. I don't claim to be a pro, or infact that good at all. All I am saying is if you read up like pretty much everyone else should (As a new player) then you will stand a bigger chance of survival. One of my best moments of last night was counter sniping a sniper. My friend was trapped in a barn (between kozlovka and drozhino on the road) and a sniper was camping him inside from the field to the north. So we used the bait and wait tactic. I got my friend to dash across the barn enterence to try to coax the sniper to taking a shot. He did and missed. Gave away his position and I got a tasty headshot :D -
Stick to the tree line, dont be an idiot. Dont rush in and take your time. Its essentially a survival simulator now, its not an action RPG.

When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade... get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What the am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! WITH THE LEMONS! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that BURNS YOUR HOUSE DOWN!

Better is a very opinion based view.

There aren't any video of current patches, because of how often the game is updated and bugs are being sorted, which unfortuantely make more errors in the process. The engine that this game is based on is a simulator. It's not meant to be an action RPG. Treat it like one and expect it and you will be sorely dissapointed. This is why the game is so popular, because no zombie apocalypse game has took the realistic route. They have gone with the ability to take on the hordes fearlessly and triumph. This game requires a lot of thought and planning. I highly recommend getting some friends together as there is strength in numbers... the only downside to this is there can be arguments over who gets weapons and food. To counter this we have voluntered for roles between us. EG, medic with all of the bandages and morphine etc. The Scout/Sniper (myself) who goes in on one man missions alone, the canairy down the mineshaft so to speak, but my prefered weapon of choice will be a sniper rifle as soon as I get my hands on one. So my role will change when I get one and i'll cover our canairy. Another tip, don't run across an open field. You're essentially waving a neon sign saying "IM A TARGET" While blowing on an air horn.... I've seen a friend get taken out by a sniper because he thought it was safe to run across an open field and make a mad dash to some woods.

Crouching still is fairly loud. You will have to hold shift to slow your crouching down if you havent already. You can tell by the indicators on how loud you are and how easy you are to see. Going prone is the best option, it may be slower, but you'll be alive and wont be seen or heard. To me it seems simple. You didn't investigate properly, by doing a full circle of the town if possible... to establish if there definately is or isnt any zombies near by. Play with the sound up. Don't have music over it (Not accusing you of it, just a general thing people do). Sound is very important in this game. Listen carefully and you'll know why. I personally wouldn't suggest going into a village for any form of weapons. I would head for farmland, and look for a barn or something for a starter weapon. Farmers are more likely in my mind to have a gun than general village folk. To avoid zombies, run through a building. They instantly slow down when travelling through it which gives you the valuable distance you so desire to make them lose interest. Im still new to this and I bet other people can tell you more than I can, but these are things I have worked out.

Im new to the game, as of 2 days ago. My first real game was last night. I survived for about 4 hours with a group of friends. For a first real attempt, I believe thats pretty good and I only lost due to one of the other new guys made a noobish mistake, but thats not the point of this post. My general adivice I can give anyone is look in barns in the fields. You will almost 100% of the time find some form of weapon in there. I don't bother with small towns or the major cities for weapons first off, because in smaller towns, the chances of me getting a weapon are lower (in my opinion) and in a city I probably wouldn't make it out alive. There is one brilliant thing I have learned to do which is risky though, is mugging people without them knowing your there. I have had roaring laughter on Skype because I crept up to an un knowing sniper watching over a town... took his ammo, food and watch. Then ran away. 2 minutes later he was raging in public chat about it. You don't need a gun to get by from the start. You just need to employ some tactic and witt.
