My group happened across a cheater just about 5 minutes ago who attempted to steal our vehicle. Reasons why he was a cheater: -Disappeared out of thin air after bailing from the vehicle. He later then appeared out of thin air and killed one of my group members, but was fatally wounded by return fire. -Upon searching his body after he was killed, they found a G36C and G36 ammo on his body. To my knowledge and everyone who is currently in TeamSpeak with me, that is not a gun that is standard in DayZ. This is the second cheater we have caught on US 554 (hosted by STAB clan) today. Again, his name was DiggerNicks on server US 554.

Cheating has gotten quite out of hand. Damned script friendly game engines.

Just got to love those moments when you have to travel across the entire map, and you get stuck in the car. I feel like sometimes I'm in one of those Ice Cube movies. Makes it more enjoyable when you're in a group with a lot of fun people! http://youtu.be/Y80Lde4rPtw

Gun nerf made the game more challenging
irbab00n replied to Helsing's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, I do agree that there might have been some imbalances with the damage the weapons put out, but I do have an issue with how hard the .45 caliber secondaries have been nerfed. Considering that .45 caliber rounds are larger than 9mm rounds, you would think the larger round would create a larger wound based off of the larger bullet diameter. Do I think it should have remained a 1 hit kill? Probably not. But I do think that using the M1911 should not be even remotely comparable to using a Makarov. Considering that's highly unrealistic in regards to the round size. It took me 5 rounds from a M1911 to bring down a zed last night. Not happy with that at all. -
Just seems like more and more, I encounter hackers and cheaters on pretty much every server I go into. Just yesterday, me and my group killed a pair of guys chilling at the Balota Airfield. Upon walking into the first hangar, lo and behold, there was a military green box on the ground with all sorts of tools and military grade weaponry with ammo. As we kept looking around, we found 2 more boxes around the same area, one of which was 15 meters away from where we killed the pair. When we had killed those two, we thought it was a little conspicuous that they were just sitting out in the open with Mk 48's to begin with, especially on a server that was around 30/40 population. If it were me, I would spend as little time as I could out in the open, lest someone come along and feel the need to kill. But that's not even the best part, because after we had killed the pair of alleged hackers, we noticed they kept using the respawn button to (or we at least assumed) get a Balota spawn. So we sat and waited for a while thinking that we had pretty good positioning until one of our group members attracted 2 zeds. He of course had to sprint into a hangar, and dispatch the zeds as quickly as he could. BUT during that time, one of the hackers came back to the airfield fully equipped with another Mk 48, and killed my bud who had attracted the zeds. Upon his death, the hacker muttered, "That's what you get for shooting us down you f**king f**got b*tch." Maybe he had a stash somewhere nearby, but from my experience through this game finding 1 Mk 48 is a very time consuming process; having a second stashed away is just too unbelievable. Add into that our discovery of 3 military boxes which had Mk 48's inside of them as well as high end tools and gadgets, it's safe to conclude there was cheating occuring. Now, there are 2 things wrong here that I have a huge problem with: 1) They cheated to get the gear. Cheating in a mod has to be possibly the most pathetic things you can do. Duplicating is one thing, because at least you have to find the weapon in order to use that exploit. I'm not condoning duplication either, but there are times when it accidentally happens and there's little to nothing you can do about it. But to downright add gear into the game because you're too cheap and lazy to put in the time to find your gear just ruins the integrity of what this mod is supposed to bring. You are supposed to struggle to survive. 2) They were poor sports about their own stupid decision making. It's no secret that dying sucks in this game, especially when you have a solid set of gear. I have had military grade loot on many lives previous, and I always try to make sure that I do everything I can to ensure I will survive (except alt+f4). Unfortunately, when you stand out in the open at Balota Airfield, you should expect someone else is going to be there to kill you. I'd like to make a reference to Charles Darwin for that one; good ol' natural selection. If you are stupid enough to stand out in the open with a target painted on your head that says, "shoot me" you kind of deserve it. But after you get killed, you not only hack all your gear back in, but call your killer a faggot after you kill him with a gun you spawned in. It not only shows that you can't play a game legitimately, but it also shows you have no responsibility, no respect, or any clue as to what you are doing. What I don't understand is why can't people just play this game without cheating? If you want to cheat, go back to playing MW3. At least there your cheating will be competitive with all the rest of the Aimbotters and griefers. Have some respect for the community that is trying to play a mod based on aspects of realism. If you can't earn your way through this game by either being a good bandit, or being a good scavenger, then maybe this mod isn't for you. Don't ruin someone else's good time because you feel like you need to have the upper hand all the time.

Hackers and Cheaters these days...

I sure hope so. I'm tired of them. They might not have directly effected me, but I could imagine how my bud felt after he was on the receiving end of this. -

Here's a little bit of a hodge-podge of stories from my latest survivor. I have altered the stories just slightly to add entertainment value. However these events were based off of true moments that occurred while me and my IRL bud were playing. Keep in mind, we were on Skype coordinating our movements and our tactics. Besides all that, enjoy! :D 1.) PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE Me and my buddy, Lt. Dan spent a fairly good amount of time scouting out the deer stands around Stary Sobor and were lucky enough to find some decent equipment. Upon our travels, we came across not 1, but 2 helicopter crashes on opposite sides of a small dirt road. Now before I get too far ahead, let me describe some of the weaponry we were packing at the time. Having played around on my own at night, I happened across another helicopter crash, and found myself an MK 48 Mod 0. Lt. Dan had with him an M16A2 he had found from a few deer stands before we happened upon the downed choppers. So we definitely could make some serious noise if we wanted to, me especially. So as we crept up to the first helicopter, I counted how many zeds we will need to take down in order to advance and loot the crash site. Little did I know, there were double the amount due to the other helicopter on the other side of the road out of my vision. So as Lt. Dan counted down to engage, he got down all the way to 1 before he yelled "stop" due to more zeds being spotted. However, it was too late. *BAM* I unloaded one 7.62 round into the skull of a zed. It wasn't until I saw a rush of around 13 zeds rushing towards our position, that I had realized I made a huge mistake. What was to follow could only be described as an Armageddon of fully automatic fire, and 13 dead carcasses strewn about the clearing. After gathering our wits, and composing our strained nerves, we proceeded cautiously forward. The reward: an M249 SAW with 2 belts, an M14, and an understanding that before engaging, fully scout your target to avoid mistakes. After all, it's the mistakes that get you killed in the end. 2.) SHOPPING TRIP FROM HELL As me and Lt. Dan began to control the area around Stary Sobor, we decided that taking a look at the small military camp on the northeast side would be a smart idea. Little did we know how poorly prepared our combat skills were. After crawling through the town carefully avoiding zeds on our way to the supermarket, we made our first mistake of the day. We didn't look both ways before crossing a small dirt road. Lo and behold we had a zombie running feverishly in our direction. We were forced to get up and run to the nearest building, which by luck was the supermarket. After entering the dismally empty supermarket, we turned around and were forced to hunker down and engage. Using my MK 48 was probably not the smartest idea, as after the first few rounds went off, a flood of zeds came bolting up to the front door. Lt. Dan at the time decided to take a look in the back rooms to see if the coast was clear enough for us to run. That's when I heard a snap, a scream, and the sudden realization my buddy had his legs broken by a zombie who punched through the wall. After taking out about a dozen or so, I found him and immediately began treating his wounds with the only bandage I had at the time, when the same zombie who caused the wounds appeared in the doorway. Motivated by anger and by fear, I struck it down with a flurry of lead that spent my remaining ammunition; all the while momentarily forgetting the amount of noise that resulted. After his wounds were patched and he was awake from his shock induced slumber, the bone chilling sound of another small horde of zeds approaching through the small hallway behind me signaled I had made the second, and unfortunately fatal mistake of the day: continuing to use my loudest gun. I was forced to run, leaving Lt. Dan to fend off what he could. As I ran down the street, all I remember is the momentary sound of screaming and gunfire. Soon after, there was silence... I had to carry on my journey alone. However, a small voice in my head told me that was not the last I would see of Lt. Dan.

It has become pretty clear to me there is two sides to this story. On one hand, you have a solid majority of the hardcore players who back and support the recent moves 1.7 and onward. On the other, you have a lot of newer, less experienced players who struggle to even find their first weapon and feel the lack of a starter weapon as detrimental to their overall experience with DayZ. I say this for two reasons: 1) No starting weapon makes the gameplay slower, requiring stealth and careful scouting to find anything. For those players who are newer, they don't necessarily know the best places to get gear. It leaves them with an overwhelming sense that no matter what, they will just get devoured before they have a chance to arm themselves. 2) Zombie senses are more keen. They can spot players a lot easier, making stealth require a lot more planning and patience (which not many people have). Some players just don't have the will to stealth past Zeds and instead rush in like their ass is on fire and wonder why the entire town is chasing them. When these changes were implemented, it made this game harder in pretty much every regard to start out from a fresh spawn. Players who have established characters with exceedingly good gear and skill were largely unaffected. This created a sort of imbalance in favor of the veterans that wasn't necessarily corrected by other means of support for the newer/less experienced players. Having said that, it goes back to a difficult question asked of any developer of any game/mod that has a large community of diverse players such as this one. How do you help the new, while not leading the hardcore players to disappointment? The solution is complex and not easily answered. While having a dedicated group of hardcore veterans who will continue to play this game out of love is a good thing to have, it is also important to maintain a fresh stream of new players who with time, can become veterans and grow the community. Because let's face it, you don't make a mod this good and expect only a handful of people to play it. If I was Rocket, I sure as hell would love people to come in and experience this game that can reward exploration and risky tactics, inspires competition, and instills a sense of attachment that makes us fear the looming death of our hard work. A possible suggestion: Take advantage of the difficulties. Meaning, if you play on Recruit, you will have a starting weapon, and enough supplies to sustain you for a little while. As difficulty level increases, your starting supplies are decreased and eventually gone with the highest difficulty level. This would allow newer/casual players to come in, be able to shoot zombies, kill other players, and still enjoy themselves. Meanwhile, the hardcore have an even harder, more realistic approach towards the game. (I even found myself asking, "why do I have a backpack on with a flashlight, some pain meds, and a bandage in it?" I know I sure as hell don't carry any one of those around on me let alone wash up on shore with one.) All said and done, this is fantastic. Rocket, you have a goldmine underneath you. If this was a stand-alone game, I would buy it in a heart beat. Because you have the drive and the dedication to continually improve the game and make the reward worth the challenge!

Recent Patch Negativity and SUGGESTIONS
irbab00n replied to irbab00n's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"good idea with the experience level thing, but still can be exploited very easily. unless it depends on your game stats.." I definitely see that being the case with the exploitation of the difficulty levels. There would have to be something along the lines of a freshly generated character for each difficulty level. Might be too cumbersome on the servers though. Who knows. "Everyone just has to grin and bear it, provide feedback and constructive criticism rather than throw the toys out the pram saying this game is crap/I wasted $30 etc" Constructive being the hardest part of that though. Many can give feedback, but few can give constructive feedback. -
Recent Patch Negativity and SUGGESTIONS
irbab00n replied to irbab00n's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There seems to be an increase in the amount of moaning and groaning across ALL forums on the internet. By no means was this a moan and groan post though. My intentions were to share my opinion and a suggestion lol. I personally would like to see zeds not move so darn fast and have a semi-predictable approaching pattern. Not that zig-zag stuff. But again, that's my opinion on it. Some people like the way it is and as long as there's a generally happy consensus on it, the rest of us have to adapt. -

Well, this thread wasn't necessarily just a suggestion thread. I also gave my opinion on the game. Figured since having multiple aspects in it, it would classify as a "general" response yeah? lol. Perhaps a new post in the suggestion thread as well?
