Would the world come to a complete end if you could chose your spawn point from a list of areas on the coast like in the Overwatch mod? This would mean that the people who want to deathmatch at a base could. And people who want to group up could.

But think it through, how would this system work. It would either require a team of admins checking for and tracking luckilly timed disconnects of 40,000 players, or fairly complex software developed to track when combat logging happens. There are MUCH simpler changes that can be made to the server to make combat logging impossible. Which is better? To expand on this, in order for software to track combating logging, the software would have to define and monitor entry and exit from an "in-combat' state. What are the conditions for entering the in-combat state (what has to occur). It's not trivial. In-combat is a judgement call that is easy for a human, but complex for computers. There has to be gunfire and proximity of players, and the gunfire has to be plus/minus some fudge factor from one player towards another. It messy, leaves room for false positives, and adds complexity to already slow code.

So this is why the source engine replaces missing textures with that purple checker board pattern.

How to improve Night gameplay - Rocket please read
__redruM replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
Night servers with at least a half moon are very playable. Full moon is perfect. Does anyone actually need gamma above 50%? Just put a reasonable ceiling on gamma, or remove it completely. Ensure there is at least a half moon, and night is viable. If a flash light is required to move about outside the game is broken. You need to be able to see to fight other players, and if you take out your gun or axe, the light goes out and it's a complete clusterfuck. Zombies are worse, as they can see better than the player at night, and you need to sprint to get away from them, but if you sprint, your flashlight gets put away and you can't see where you are going. I suppose a headlamp could fix a lot of this, if it didn't point at your feet when you raised your weapon. -
THE DAYZ WISH LIST (From the Community to the Devs)

I think I already go it, all the enterable building are a huge improvement. Now fill them with new types of loot without server resets. Also a giant amusement park in Cherno with working rides and cotton candy! :) jk -
No, clearly this is a game design issue and should be fixed server side, what a stupid poll. You can't prove the person didn't lose internet or power or whatever so you would have to come up with some awkward policy involving three strikes and keep track of server logs and wow it just gets worse the more I think about it. Combat logging is evil I agree completely, but it needs to be fixed in software, not policed by a huge taskforce of server moderators checking server logs for the third strike.

Weapon and Ammunition Rarity (Discussion)

So without ammo, It become a melee combat game, great idea... I could stand to see more pistol clips and ammo. I've found 5 pistols, haven't found a clip for any of them. -
combat logging: a constructive thread ?
__redruM replied to Betabyte (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Fixing this on the server side makes a lot of sense, but it's possible that poor design choice make this impossible. Conceptually it's a really simple change though to protect against alt-f4. -
It's not that hard Rocket (combat logging comment)

Not if the timeout is on the server... 10 (I like 30) seconds after lost connection or client request to disconnect. The server save the player state to the hive, leaving the motionless body in place until then. I don't really know the design. It possible that the client is what saves it's data to the hive and not the server. But that sort of design choice would be a hackers wet dream. Though that's almost certainly not the case, as I picked up a bag of rice on a server reset, but didn't have the rices when the server came back online. -
Water Purification [MAYBE NOT SOLVED]

The Sea? It would be totally wrong if it works, but we're in Alpha... -
[SUGGESTION] - How about if each player can have 2 characters~?
__redruM replied to RoyalForce (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Have you tried changing your steam profile id? Each steam profile ID get's it's own character. But the potential for abuse is very high, so it will likely get patched. -
So, imagine this scenario, someone knock your character out and cuffs you, but instead of making you drink bleach, they feed you and give you water, keeping you prisoner indefinitely. If you break out of the cuffs, they hit you unconscious, cuff you and nurse you back to consciousness. it would be the ultimate video game troll. There has to be a way out of this scenario, that leaves your captor all your loot, but gets you back to the beach.

Why is everyone so worried about killing on sight?
__redruM replied to Mao Zedong's topic in General Discussion
Bullets now damage the items a player is carrying. So intimidating a player into putting his stuff down is viable, but outright killing for loot isn't, by design. Now killing on sight detection is a viable playstyle to keep your loot, and very logical. Besides the pay off is the encounter, not the loot. Confrontation in Dayz is so much more intense then a kill every 20 seconds fps. And that's the reward. -
Worst case scenario, go AFK and starve to death. But I don't have a problem with people being able to click respawn whenever.

fast and highly observant zombies are bad for the game
__redruM replied to Antiklimax's topic in General Discussion
I've been playing mostly night servers with moonlight, and had little trouble with zombies. Last night ended up on a day server and couldn't move one block without alerting a zombie. It would be nice if crouch walking cut their view distance a bit.
