[Suggestion] Scaling loot chance based on player count
connorsrm replied to ChaoticRambo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I still agree with you, (just playing devils advocate) but what about the increased difficulty associated with dealing with a plethora of zombies guarding loot, without the possibility of assistance. Wouldn't it be easier to loot a gps from a building surrounded by 20 zombies with those a team of friendlies, rather than alone. Similarly wouldn't survival in general be easier since many essential tasks, (ie: blood transfusion) cannot be accomplished without assistance. -
[Suggestion] Scaling loot chance based on player count

I think its an excellent idea, and well represented mathematically. To play devils advocate, some people might disapprove of effectively punishing individuals that prefer the PvE atmosphere and playstyle as a pose to the PvP playstyle, or "you don't get anything unless you play it my way" mentality. Nonetheless it seems fair if the top tier gadgetry requires the danger. -
it seems cool, but thats alot of coding work to just be circumvented by teamspeak, ventrilo, or any other voice chat software on the market.

What advantage is the Military Flashlight?
connorsrm replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
those of you who have used NVG's IRL downrange probably know it isn't exactly like Tom Clancy. alot of times it's only marginally better. I think a broader spectrum of night vision in the mod would be preferable to a military flashlight. It doesnt really seem like I have any night vision, every time I load into night it feels like my character was just staring at the sun for 30 minutes then tossed in solitary :). Doesn't bug me too much though, this mod is like digital heroin. -
Damn, with the energy some of you people expend trolling the forums to feebly burn people, or posting elaborate drama queen rants about how your leaving forever, you'd all have helicopters by now. If you want to play, play. If you don't want to play, don't.

Steam name: Darkspy (Look for the avatar with the squirel and a rocket launcher) Location: California Age: 24 Mic: Yes Just started playing Day Z last week but I've been having a ton of fun. I have been looking for a more organized setting with a common purpose. I'd be overjoyed to become an asset for your team. I'm team oriented, friendly, and enjoy long walks on zombie infested beaches. -
I would be interested in joining your crew and helping out where possible. My steam name is Darkspy.

Hello, I'm writing for a friend, we're currently in the midst of trying to get him into DayZ after my ranting reviews. He has purchased arma2 combined ops from steam and installed both games. They run fine normally. He then downloaded six launcher and used it to install the DayZ files. Now however whenever he attempts to join a server he recieves the DirectD3D 9 error and cannot do so. Is there any fix for this problem as it occures to six launcher users?

So I posted under a different thread regarding three of my experiances prior to the hotfix, I feel its only fair to post an experiance post hotfix. I spawn into the morning light. Night has just passed and I can't help but take a moment to bask in the visable glory as I plot my next course of action. I look up and down the coast, sighting small complexes here and to. Having met with certain failure several times before, I journey inland. I heave myself up the hill in front of me using the woods to conceal myself. I journey in this manner for some time before emerging at the edge of the woods. I state out into the horizon overlooking an industrial complex. I take a second to identify my location, and realize I've emerged north of "Electro" near a firestation. My realization turns to curiousity when I realize how barren the complex is. Despite the dangers of the city, not one zombie is trawling this complex. Curiousity overcomes caution as I slowly decend upon the complex, crawing until a hole in a wall and examining nearby storage shed. I find nothing, but although the failure stings, as I enter the courtyard I'm overcome with surprise. a survivor stands before me staring into the firestation. I'm so dumbstruck I stare at him for a good 5 seconds before gathering the sense to speak. "Friendly! behind you!" It turns out there are three of them, and they are quite friendly indeed. We journey out from the complex with a mutual goal of survival, and a mutual joy that the encounter was not hostile. Our journey's take us to barns nearby in search of supplies when twoof my companions takes a spill from the second story of the barn, breaking his legs. I quickly bandage wounds, and we decide to return the safety of the fire station. Two of decide it would be best to leave the injured men in the firestation and head deep into the city to search for morphine. We survive our journey, however cautiously, but return to find out comrades besieged by bandits. We rush to their aide and rather then heroically safe, are condemned to death in a hail of bullets. Tradgety albeit, but awesome.

Newbie Survivor looking for Team (Not the best upsell)
connorsrm posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good Day, I'm new the game, and have played through three lives already. I may not be much of an asset at this point, but my lack of experiance is matched by loyalty. I'm quick to learn and eager to assist. I am equiped with a mic, and ready to lend myself to your team. That being said if your interested in teaming up feel free to private message me so I can send you my steamname and we can link up. I'm in the Pacific Time Zone, but willing to adapt to other times if neccessary. RC -
I look forward to playing this with the zed nerf. I just picked up the mod on monday and it was more brutal than a 90's japanese console platformer... :)

Good Morning! After reading this thread for a little while I've found a range of perplexing opinions and I feel I could contribute to this article with an authentic opinion. I viewed the PC gamer video diary of DayZ on monday night and subsequently downloaded the mod almost in a fevor. My heart raced at the prospect of a simulation quality zombie survival mod. I'm going to note the three occassions I've been able to play thus far with the purposes of providing an insight in to the new players experiance. You'll note I just registered yesterday and this is my first post, but I hope it will be helpful nonetheless. Experiance 1: Monday Night upon downloading the mod I swiftly load six updater and paw my way into a server. I exciteded create my character, select my gender, and eagerly await my spawning into my own personal nightmare. Upon spawning I realize it's night and I can't see anything. My screen is litterally pitch black. I struggle with my gear interface and manage to equip my flashlight, luckily as an ARMA2 player this is not very difficult for me to accomplish. I turn my flashlight on to find it that it does little more than illuminate a seemingly 2 foot cone and illuminates nothing when moving effectly making it useless. Although slightly discouraged I attempt to continue onward still inspired by the survival aspect. As a veteran having experianced pitch black nights in afghanistan, my suspension of disbelief is slightly destroyed because I'm aware an individual could see alot better this the game is allowing for on a clear night with a ton of starlight, and possibily moonlight, and I'm wondering if the relective cup of my flashlight is made of crumpled tinfoil, but I put these feelings aside to continue. I do not up my gamma because I consider that akin to glitching. I find some railroad tracks and attempt to following to find scavenging grounds of some sword. I try to maintain light and noise discipline and maintain a low profile. After 10 minutes of walking a crawling zombie sneaks up on my breaks a bone and causes bleeding with one strike and I die. I shut the game down because I need to wake up early. Experiance 2, Tuesday Afternoon. I load up into the day setting, relieved that I won't have to deal with the void and spawn into a new character with newfound excitement. I find a lighthouse and decide to see if I can find anything in it. There is nothing. another player passes me, stops, I challenge him via microphone, he doesnt respond and instead runs past me to the lighthouse. I shrug and continue down the shore to a complex I've spotted, hoping to find any tool of self defense. I sneak past several walkers and enter a building. There is nothing to be found. I sneak past several walkers and examine car wrecks, once again nothing. At this point a crawling zombie runs up and smacks me. I proceed to run into a nearby buidling where I find another player with an axe. They are combating zombies, but I am unable to assist because I have no equipment. The one hit from the crawling has caused extreme bleeding and I attempt to open my inventory to bandage myself. For some reason right clicking my banage yields no result. I powerlessly watch as my newfound peer is swamped by zombies and I bleed to death unable to help him. Also he does not respond to my voice hails, but whatever. Experiance 3, Tuesday Evening. I decide to give it one more go. I spawn in and try a different direction. I run into the woods and examine barns or any structures I can come accross. Nothing is to be found. After an hour and a half of doing this I exit the woods slightly frusterated and come accross a small aclove of buildings. I move to examine them, sneak past two walkers and check two buildings to discover they are both unenterable. I start to disengage and a crawling catches wind of my presense. I begin to sprint away determined not die again. I manage to escape the crawler... but his two walkers which are now sprinting at roughly 125-150% of my sprint speed, (pretty athletic for dead dudes) have decided they want a piece of the action. I sprint to a nearby building and enter... they persist but slow for a second.... thinking I've escaped I sprint up the shore... suddenly they appear. Frusterated, I sprint near a lighthouse... they persist... and aggro another set that were close by. 4 are now chasing me and eventually one lands a hit that cripples me resulting in death. Final Thoughts: While I laud and comment the survival aspects of the game, I played for roughly 4 hours over the course of these 3 experiances and essentially accomplished nothing. There was little reward from the minor accomplishments I made, such as evading walkers, infiltrating complexes and scavenging. I think this is a great mod, but there needs to be slightly more accessability for new players if we want them to stick around. I'm supprisingly stuborn so I may not be going anywhere, but I know anyone I present this mod to in the current xbox generation will scoff after 30 minutes, sadly enough. My humble opinion: Give some manner with which to defend oneself from the start regardless of how meager and weak. Anyone can pick up a stick and bash oneone in the head, even if it doesnt do much damage, it will make the player feel like he has a chance, however slim. This presents a possible challenge, and people like overcoming challenges. Provide some sort of illumination for the night: Next time you go camping, go on a clear night with the moon our past half and tell me if you can see. I think this would make it ten times easier for a new player to jump into the game. I know there may be some backlash to this post, I expect that kind of resistance, some people just like being argumentative its provides a forum and thats good. These are honest opinions and experiances from someone with no background that just set the game up and I thought we could benefit from a little insight. I'll still continue to play, and I look forward to seeing you on the island. Respectfully, Connors *EDIT* I apolgize for grammatical/spelling errors, I wrote this while on my way to my summer calculus course and It was more hectic then expected.
