Just how much of an advantage can people get with respawning? Is this really an issue? Doesn't really break that much immersion if you're doing it right after respawning anyways. As for preformed groups, just deal with it. You don't need to be glued to your friend 24/7 and you should be enjoying the rest of the game until you reach them. When you do get together you should be trying not to die, just like everyone else, to stay together.

Plea: Go back to Making Survival Sandbox

Not sure what you're thinking of when you say it, but balance is always important. -
Be more fun if I knew who killed me.
Kain Phalanx replied to mrperson666's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to be a bandit killer you'll have to play differently. You assume that they always get the first shot, but if you do some stalking and identify with the heartbeat mechanic then this shouldn't be the case if you have skill. Revenge killing is a mindless fps thing. -
Maybe if they left a cd in the car. Otherwise the radio isn't going to be working unless we get a Three Dog.
-
Yeah, just play on servers with it disabled. Nice perk is less bandits probably play on them since they like having unfair advantages.
-
I'm okay with this. I don't really like most people. I play online games because it's far more interesting with human opponents and allies rather than just AI. Finally here's a game where I am not forced to interact with people if I don't feel like it aside from the pvp challenge.

no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
Kain Phalanx replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Without the Side/Channel more people will KoS." What's the logic behind this? There are other ways to communicate. "without sidechat, game gets boring pretty fast." Then you don't like the game, go find another one. Even if you still believe you do, adding chat isn't a real solution to the problem. -
You are what is killing this game
Kain Phalanx replied to TheDee (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depends on what you mean by killing the game. From my point of view, too many new casual gamers are far more likely to 'kill' the game even if it does become more popular because of those people. The average gamer doesn't give a rat's ass about immersion which is this game's best point. The simplistic handholding you keep hearing people here rail against attracts more people, sure. But the kind of people it attracts are idiots. If the community is full of idiots, then yes, the community will also kill the game. -
no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
Kain Phalanx replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Side chat enabled on all servers but with a mute option is not acceptable. You'd just be asking us to pretend a feature that affects gameplay isn't there. The only discussion that should be taking place here is letting the servers decide individually if Side Chat stays. I'd be open to that possibility. I'm having a hard time telling what the actual positions here are with all the windbaggery. Rocket has stated that he doesn't want the servers to have too much freedom and I lean towards his side. Too much variation between servers creates an inconsistent experience. Left4Dead for example is a crapshoot when you join a server, since they can add all kinds of weird stuff that even effects gameplay. -
global and sidechat removal in the alpha phase

Doesn't text work with direct communication? -
There needs to be clear indications of who is good and bad.

Meh, bad people often do conform to their stereotypes. -
no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
Kain Phalanx replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you need chat to liven up a boring game, then maybe you should just stop playing said boring game. And making it optional client side has issues. It's like a mute function. Casual players just don't use mute functions. They'd rather create as big a shitstorm as possible if they're in disagreement with another player and create an eyesore for everyone else. As much as I don't want it, if we're stuck with global then I wouldn't turn it off. A "You friendly in so-and-so town?" will have just alerted the entire server to my and another's location. And one of those people is a guaranteed idiot because he just used said global chat. The great thing about DayZ is that communication becomes a tactical variable. All any other game has is 'can you speak while you're dead'. -
Troll gamedev of the year award goes to rocket!

Rocket? Everyone knows the biggest gamedev troll is Gaben (pun not intended). -

no Side chat = Community Growth will be damaged
Kain Phalanx replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A global chat is an inefficient, inelegant way of fixing the problem you bring up of a high learning curve. The fix for that would be a tips feature like in other games. If you just want to chat, you have just about the entirety of the internet to work with. Global chat consisted of "Friendly?", "How do I ___?", and "Who's the guy shooting in Cherno?" Since the idea of answering the technical questions in global chat is to bring new players, then the questions would NEVER stop. It WILL get annoying to most people. The other two questions should be asked with Direct Communication or otherwise investigated which many report to be the most exciting aspect of the game, though too many may be replying with bullets. -
For clarity. Arma 2 has a free version, but you still need to buy Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead to play DayZ. That's still $20 right now. Or you can pay $30 for Combined Operations which gives you both, meaning you get the extra features of the original Arma 2.

Night time is fine because you can choose to not do anything or switch servers to not play at night? Wow guy, are you serious?
-
It's broken. You shouldn't need lights for just traveling at night. In buildings? Sure. Maybe spot something and need a road flare? Sure. The only advantage of night is concealment, but if you need a light at all times then you're even more likely to be spotted than in daytime.
-
Buy stuff that you lose when you die? That would be hilarious. I guess you could do skins or something. But seriously, the F2P option is absolutely terrible. Paying money for an advantage over other people is so sleasy. It astounds me that people don't recognize it for what it is. And this game will likely never be worth a monthly subscribtion, not that it's a bad thing since they also suck. As for Studio or Community, yeah, I don't know. Developer's call. Rocket's vision for the game will be distorted and the less whoring, which studios would incentivise, the better, I say. So probably community.

From an Eve-Online Player...
Kain Phalanx replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One of the biggest thing the two games have in common is the ability for large groups of people to monopolise areas and materials of the game. Eve is fine with this because that's part of what it's for, but it kind of breaks DayZ when a Clan joins a server with its more limited player count. -

Recent Patch Negativity and SUGGESTIONS
Kain Phalanx replied to irbab00n's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"On one hand, you have a solid majority of the hardcore players who back and support the recent moves 1.7 and onward." Not really. You just have a few loud people who would support any change that makes the game harder just so they can feel superior. Some of the recent changes have quite obviously broken the game and to say otherwise is silly. -
Ban for playing old versions
Kain Phalanx replied to Rinner23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Really? It's a rather huge sign that says the developers did something wrong. And plenty have stated their reasons for not playing current build. -
I'm aware what the patch notes say. It's just that I doubt it's working as intended if it's as easy as you make it sound. Being able to get away from zombies should be an iffy affair only to be attempted in a last ditch effort when the environment suits it. If you can do it reliably at any time then it's just a cheesy gimmick like in Assassin's Creed.
