Full controller support for standalone Day Z (to Rocket)

The cool thing is PROPER support has been done before on many games, which is why I am on this thread requesting it. I play Day Z because it's not those other games that limit you. The option, when done correct would be nice.

Full controller support for standalone Day Z (to Rocket)

It saddens me to see replies like these. Your post suggest that only good games come out on PC. That playing games across multiple platforms makes one inferior to one who games only on PC. Keyboard and mouse is awesome, so are controllers. Its preference. Controllers have their place and you would be naive to suggest that games don't need or should never have a controller option. My suggestion is not to replace Keyboard and Mouse controls of Day Z, or to in any way effect the keyboard and Mouse experience. I would just enjoy having the option to use a controller and be able to use it effectively due to better configuration support. I would not like to make this become a controller vs Keyboard and mouse war or console vs PC. Options only help games and allow gamers to tailor their experience. I don't understand your replies and how controller support effects you? Lack of said support well...
  3. As small as this group may be, I'm sure there are others out there like myself that play Day Z using a controller. I use a wireless windows Xbox controller. I'm 39 years old and have done my share of gaming (since PONG) and have gained dexterity over the years using a controller. I know have played Day Z more than any other game to date and consider myself a gamer. I believe I play Day Z quite well yet because the controller support is limited (just as it was in Arma 2) I find my self wanting more for the standalone/mod so I can be even more competitive. Rocket you have stated you want to one day see Day Z on consoles (I prefer to play games on PC) . Now is the time to include full controller support. I currently have to play with my wireless keyboard next to me to do simple inputs like: Going into gear, stepping over obstacles, rolling, turing on night vision, compass, and the awesome leans around corners. I am the senior pilot of my squad and fly the chopper easily and even drive vehicles better than most my squad (They all love hitting stuff and many have blown up some vehicles.) The problem now is there are buttons that are not able to be mapped on the controller which could help make it's use more efficient. Functions I would like to see are: 1. A toggle button to drop down a list so I can scroll through choices with the D-pad and select things like, compass, night vision, GPS... ( the d pad maybe?) 2. A button to step over (A button?) 3. The ability to map to the left and right D pad buttons. 4. Perhaps the back/select button should be used to bring up the map and the shoulder buttons could be for leaning and rolling. If you use a controller please chime in. If you use a keyboard and mouse, game on! Its options like these that fall within the theme of Day Z, freedom to play the game the way I choose, given the options supplied by the game. Thoughts?

    HELICOPTER CO-PILOT - Standalone suggestion

This is a very good suggestion, you saved me from making a post. I am the senior pilot in my clan. We take or chopper piloting seriously, if possible we only allow pilots in the pilot seats. In real life air superiority is a must and features like this one helps us keep it. I did hours of training before I flew with a full crew of players who did not want to lose their character (very intense experience ill never forget). My skills were up to the task however a disconnect would have been ill timed. There are several reasons this feature should be included in the standalone: 1. The disconnecting from the game while flying could cost us our lives and its very un-likley to happen to two pilots at the same time. 2. Training. I could train my pilots better and help them lean NOT to rely on auto hover land and how to manually touch down the the chopper anywhere. For example, beginners could learn to take off as a co-pilot and the pilot could land. 3. If the pilot is shot in flight, bleeds out, dies of thirst/starvation or goes unconscious for any reason, the other pilot could take over. 4. To prevent crashes. Two days ago I let a new pilot fly and he made a costly error that resulted in a crash. I saw the crash develop and would have been able to save it from doing so since I was the in the co-pilot seat. 5. It adds to the authenticity of the experience, real choppers have co-pilots for a reason the current chopper in game supports dual control. This will be a simple yet incredibly useful addition to Day Z. To prevent accidental simultaneous controlling of the chopper (which could be bad) just add the option to switch or take over controls on the fight actions list above auto hover (since this is more important and should be accessed without having to scroll.) This will be a great addition to Day Z pilots.

    Upgrade the Crossbow?

The crossbow is an awesome weapon and would serve well in this type of game. I have made some silent kills that were useful. However, we need the ability to stack bolts and zeroing.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

Bugs: 1. I have seen zeds appear to spawn under deer stands (you see them blinking) only to spawn were they normally would moments later. This also happened near a chicken coop thats near a well my team used in the same town on two different occasions, since the update (the zed looked like he was going to spawn near a chicken coop but never did). 2. Once going to a barn, zeds continued to spawn in the same spot near the doorway. I killed 3 or 4 and had to leave. 3. When you play and lose connection either through disconnect or server restart your previous session will be reset regardless of how long you just played. My squad and I have discovered a work around for this by aborting after we do an important task or find big loot. Aborting out of game causes our progress to save. We re join and continue. 4. When Taking a back pack now your current pack will sometimes disappear. Any items that were not removed are gone since the back is gone. This has happened to us a few times. We have to empty our pack first before taking a new pack. On one occasion we could see the transferred pack but the previous owner could not. 5. The have been three occasions were I ran up to game only to have them disappear. 6. Sometimes the iron side view does not work on some weapons after some uses (Seen happen on Remington and Lee) . We were able to fix this once when I suggested trading lees with a teammate, the problem was corrected ( I will have them drop and pick it up next time to see if it will correct problem) 7. The temperature system actually worked for us yesterday. It was in the morning on the server and we had intermittent rain. My five man team all saw decrease in temps (one as low as 33 ). We used heat packs and fire to bring it back up to 42. I was surprised to see this working. *This may not be a bug and could have been due to time of day, 05:00.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

In every update like this one, 1.7.2. Why do the rounds in my primary weapon and sidearm take up one slot each? is this a bug? How can a magazine be in a pocket and in a wapon at the same time?

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

No not this. come on rocket let us have a gun at spawn please. Please Rocket do NOT give us a gun at spawn. You have such a awesome feeling of accomplishment when you earn what you have. Your level is your gear. This game is about loot and survival. There are plenty of guns on the map and very assessable. You have to learn to take your time. Its laughable to think because you have a gun from the beginning will make you a better survivor. I've started with a gun and without and believe me I'm a better survivor having learned how to survive until I can defend myself. Let me ask you this, what would you ever do if you some how ran out of ammo?3 I guess next people will be asking to start with the alice pack too.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

The Zeds are killing me through the stairs in apartments. I have now died three or four times from a Zed that appears to be in the stairs (I had good stuff each time) It happened a couple of times in Chorno and in Berezino. This is a unfortunate bug because its not like when they hit you through walls, because at least then you can see them.
