  1. I genuinely believe they're bad enough players that they think the zeds are "overpowered." Pure coop is more practical in pure ArmA, DayZ is not structured to be too difficult even as a lone wolf player. I think all it really lacks is some kind of shared goal though, that would be a nice addition.
  2. I think all but basic guns should be removed for the weapons and some sort of goal like building a boat to escape the place should be used. Make it somehow require a few people to complete the thing so the idea of a lone wolf character is obsolete and it becomes team vs team with an actual end goal. Because right now all we have is hoarding and killing, which is pretty much like stock ArmA PvP just with zombies.

    Hackers becoming a big issue!

Just so everyone is aware, ArmA has always been rife with hackers and Rocket will be hard pressed to address it. This stuff is all part of the ArmA engine and will probably not go away. All we can hope for is some kind of fix in ArmA 3 that can clamp down on this. I think ArmA 2 is pretty much a lost cause when it comes to scripting exploits.

    Is DayZ realistic?

100% not realistic. It's a video game and zombies aren't real. There is no comparison to this and real life. As for player actions, 100% realistic. Just look at any major corporation or anyone in a tight spot. They'll kill you without question.
  5. He isn't supposed to evaluate it. Botto line, you have people who want what they want. The reality is if I want PvP I will do it, if not, then I won't. Rocket may want what he wants and that is fine. He has a choice, stick with what he wants or give the people what they want. That's it, end of story.
  6. Hmmph... I can't disagree with that. Well for starters' date=' it fractures the community into groups, while the purpose of this whole experiment is to explore a singular group dynamic. Rocket WANTS a PVP dynamic present in the final game. But how the hell is he supposed to evaluate the effects of new gameplay mechanics and even more subtle game play tweaks if all the PVPers are on one set of servers and all the PVEers are on another? As far as an alpha test goes it does not support the stated goal. If he is going to be able to fine tune the interactions between PVP and PVE he needs both groups playing in the same space. Any other options will only make things more difficult (if not impossible) to evaluate. It would be like developing and balancing two seperate games at the same time, when all he really desires is one game comprised of both. Furthermore (as already mentioned) if you are going to have this split you have to PERMANANTLY keep both sides seperate. You cannot have people loot farming on the PVE servers and then PVPing on another server with said loot. right time for it. [/quote'] After reading a few pages before interjecting, I read your comment and you pretty much sum up exactly what I was going to say, Very nice post. Though I have noticed a little fragmentation already, for example, due to servers being able to wind the clock back or forward with a restart. I'm not complaining as such and can completely understand that most people want to play in the daytime, however, I personally enjoy night play alot and am currently hard pressed to find a night server with a decent ping to my location and when I do they are never more than 1/3 full. Seems like night play is getting shunned by the player base, such a shame as I personally find it alot more tense and suspenseful. I'm personally fine with using flashlights, flares and chems, just a shame to see so many night servers deserted lately. Anyway back on topic, to the chap who says he should be able to password his own server etc because he paid for it, you have the wrong attitude mate, id get long-winded about it but people have already covered what your motivations should be, should you choose to host Day Z. Simply put, your not entitled to special treatment because you host but don't take that as a slap in the face, most people will be grateful should you continue to host the game, just play by the rules please, they're there with good reason. :) There will always be fragmentation. As I stated earlier they should just create a PvP version and one non-PvP version for those who want it. Don't allow the two to share player characters and it's golden. You play non-PvP or vice versa and you cannot log onto the other kind of server with your items. Problem solved. No more whining from anyone.
  7. How about this: 2 versions of the mod. One is PvP friendly and the other not. No crossover, if you have a character on a friendly server you can't log on to a PvP server with your gear, that's a new character. I don't see a problem with this approach and it will stop all the bitching and whining from both sides.
  8. Exactly, I doubt the DayZ scripts can address this. BIS would probably have to fix it, submit a bug report to them and if you are lucky it might make it into a future patch.

How to make DayZ look like this?

I would completely disable FFXA. It's a lossy anti-aliasing approximation intended more for performance than accuracy. If you have a good video board just disable it.

    Legit or hacks? Barb Wire

That must be some versions ago' date=' at least it don't work for me [/quote'] No idea, I've encountered it from time to time and never had a problem.

    Legit or hacks? Barb Wire

Just hop over it. Default key is V.
  12. ArmA has a pretty powerful scripting language which it can use to pretty much alter gameplay. I suspect DayZ can mitigate some of these issues but I am not sure they can stop everything. ArmA is meant to be very mod-able so there might be no way to stop it completely. Just report people who are doing this and hopefully it can be cleaned up at least a little with some bans.
  13. I read this thread while sitting on my Davenport in the parlor. Made me laugh.
  14. As I recall 3rd person was implemented by BIS to allow for more realistic situational awareness. In reality you are far more aware of your surroundings IRL than you are in 1st person in the game. I use 3rd person when I'm moving as I can see more than just in a straight line. Darting your eyes, moving your head slightly, those things can't be put into the game easily. And you can't see very far behind yourself anyhow, usually someone won't need to sit on you to shoot you in the back of the head. Unless they like that kind of thing.

    Killed by annoying bugs.

Respawn bugs aside, complain to BIS about that stuff. Who knows, maybe they will include the fixes in a patch someday.
  16. ArmA doesn't really support underground areas, it has nothing to do with DayZ itself. Maybe the engine can support it somehow, but there has never been so much as a concave surface that I can recall in any of the OFP/ArmA games from the beginning.
  17. Invincibility hacks are nothing new in ArmA, they have been floating around for a long time. Try to get the player info and report them.

    DayZ servers having nothing :/

I had the same problem after updating to 1.7.1.4 and found this post fixed the problem. You probably just need the beta patch for ArmA. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=13684
