The whole Chernarus
mcslaughter replied to komoter226@yahoo.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Notice that we're not even playing anywhere remotely near the capital of Chernarus (Novigrad). Imagine how large Novigrad must be, if Chernogorsk is a minor city and Elektrozkadovsk isn't even shown. Now that would be one hell of a looting place. -
Does it really matter?

Welcome, buyers of the Steam Summer Sale. Please search...

Doesn't really help because getting to ArmA2 is in its own completely different league from every other game on the planet. -

The admin of US133 is a bro in every way. It's one of the hundreds of bugs and other issues that are arising due to all of this insanity with the multiple beta patches/RCs/other fuckery. -

US133 is having a lot of issues right now due to all of this nonsense that's been going on. You're not actually banned for any real reason, it's just been screwing up. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1192129&page=217 Follow the Facepunch thread (The server is hosted by Facepunch.) for more information, as all of us in the FP community are experiencing similar issues while all of this chaos is trying to get fixed. -
Kill, loot, steal, survive. Do whatever it takes. Don't forget your humanity though: Some of the best experiences in this game are the random encounters with people you don't kill... But never be too trusting, or you might end up dead!

[1.7.1.5] Bodies Disappearing WAY TOO QUICKLY
mcslaughter replied to darkdavid08@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
As many others have already said, this has happened to me as well in the past few days. At first I didn't think much of it, but as the issue persisted I began to see the pattern. I'm glad there's already a report for this, as it definitely needs addressing. That could also depend on the server's refresh rate: If a server refreshes on a basis of five minutes, then you would only have five minutes instead of fifteen as the case may be on another server. This is something worth looking into. -
Definitely not. Even if the (I've always assumed it's a bug) feature where flies persist after a dead survivor is hidden stays, I believe that hiding a body is a legitimate option and should remain open. From a survival standpoint, why leave all the gear you don't need for someone else to take to possibly use against you? From a standpoint of the dead person trying to run back to their loot, it's no longer YOURS, as someone else already said. This game is designed to not be forgiving. Why should this be any more forgiving than the rest of the game? I disagree with this suggestion.

Running the game on low will only put more stress on your friend's CPU rather than his graphics card. There's a great thread over on the Rock, Paper, Shotgun forums that has some information on how to improve performance in ArmA2 here. (It's very extensive and should be very useful in helping your friend calibrate his system so that it doesn't put too much stress on either his CPU or graphics card.) I'm not a fan of Alienwares, as I believe they are very gimmicky and really serve no purpose but to dissuade people that might want to become PC gamers but are too worried that PCs are far too expensive (Which as we all know is not the case, but everyone believes due to the overpricing of brand name companies such as Alienware or Apple, who don't even put out very good hardware to begin with!), but I hope your friend figures out a way to get his game running a bit more smoothly.

Not very realistic, and I'm sure the billboard would just be camped. It's an interesting idea, but no player would actually use this because they would simply be relying on another player to kill someone they themselves could kill without losing the item they put up for grabs or waiting around for someone fool enough to go by and pick up this player-made "quest" and go through the strenuously long hassle of tracking down this player. (Which, I must remind you, is nigh impossible in a 225km^2 space across hundreds of servers without just a complete and utter stroke of luck -- which is not the kind of thing you base a feature on.) How could this system even work across hundreds of servers? Would the bounty be server-locked? In that case, couldn't a player who has a bounty on their head just play on another server, if they were even stupid enough to be worried that someone, somehow, might randomly run into them and just happen to be the hunter looking for them? The more I think about this, the less feasible and less interesting this idea becomes. Overall, I don't think this is a very good function for several reasons, including the ones I've already brought up.

This was really good! The part at about 50s really struck me in particular: Though you never actually see that sort of thing in-game, it's still a very accurate representation of the overall atmosphere of hopelessness and doom that the game has.

Is the DayZ going independant?
mcslaughter replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There has been a lot of chatter about DayZ going independent, especially coinciding with ArmA3's release next year, but nothing is confirmed and Rocket has said several times in interviews that it is still all very much up in the air at the moment. Hopefully whatever decision they make is a good one for the health of DayZ and the devteam, as I'm sure it will be. -
Should I wait until September?
mcslaughter replied to matt.25@hotmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
People so easily forget that when you buy ArmA2: Combined Operations you're not buying DayZ... You're buying ArmA2, and ArmA2 is a great game! Sure, it has its flaws, but overall the experiences I've gained from playing ArmA2 with friends has been so rewarding. I suggest buying the game now, as not only will you be getting ArmA2 and Operation Arrowhead, you'll also be a part of the DayZ movement in its most important phase: The part where we gamers have the most influence on what direction the game goes in. Even if the development team maintains its philosophy of always listening to player input, this is the most important part of DayZ's growth and the most change to the game will occur now -- and that change will be largely brought about by gamers who decided that being a part of this experience in the "puberty" (If you will.) phase of this game's life was worth the extra money. And trust me, it is definitely worth it! -
Switch between Day Z and vanilla ARMA?
mcslaughter replied to Maderas's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
If you run DayZ through Six Launcher software then running ArmA2/Operation Arrowhead/Combined Operations through Steam will always open just that, not the DayZ expansion. I've never played DayZ without Six Launcher -- as I never saw any reason not to upon getting it -- so I've never had to deal with the alteration of parameters in the Steam library. I'm pretty sure you can make a shortcut that exclusively runs DayZ upon running it in the Steam library, but I'm not entirely sure how to do that. My suggestion is to simply use Six Launcher, as I see no reason not to in the first place: It provides you with exclusively DayZ servers, and runs separately from your Steam library. What's there to lose?
