How long do people live? Not noobs, I mean the average pro.
Murdernickle replied to cragzeek's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My longest without death was 22 days but i was extremely bored by the end of it. Now if I get a military grade primary, decent secondary, alice pack, and so on I generally take unnecessary risks for fun. I see how many times I can loot NW airfield before getting caught or so on. I generally don't shoot on sight but after so long with no true objective besides survival, I find I just want to go mess around. I play lone wolf anyways so I don't hurt anyone with my reckless actions. -
I think we've all known about this.. but whatever, my jimmies remain unrustled. I prefer to go diving into cherno/elektro/NW Airfield solo when I have a good amount of gear. I don't need anything per se.. I just like the thrill. That's what it's about right?

Is Cherno and Elektro really that fun?
Murdernickle replied to Kalignoir's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually go there when I'm bored of my character and want to start over. It's a more entertaining "respawn" button for me. -
Also churches that can be entered have 3 spires on top of it not one. Another tip is the the brown log houses without shutters can be entered but the ones with shutters cannot be entered.

The muting of the sound is a result of "shock". You'll see a white icon on the right of your screen above the broken bone one that indicated shock. Just wait for it to go away and you should regain hearing. For the loot inside you need to break the windows somehow. I recommend silently with a hatchet or crowbar.

This is actually pretty damn cool! This would be such a tense and frustrating situation, but exactly what could happen when you're overpowered. I may attempt this with the next person that my friend and I get the jump on. If they make a sudden move I can still shoot them... wow This is absolutely what I'd love to see more of.

A week Playing as a Non-combatant Medic.
Murdernickle replied to wulfenrider@msn.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For a good 3 or 4 days (until i ran out of blood packs) I traveled the coast with an AKM, M1911, good amount of food, ammo, binocs, matches, knife, compass, gps, and medical supplies as well as a coyote backpack offering medical aid to those escaping cherno and elektro. This was when side chat was still active. Perhaps I got lucky or perhaps I had just found a decent server, but not once was I shot for helping the people that I could. People thanked me and I went on my way, valuable loot and all. Maybe some people paint the game in a darker light than what it is.. maybe side chat and the small relationships built there actually helped. I'm not sure what it was but that was a good streak. I did it knowing full well that i'd be killed in no time but I was alright with that considering I was set up and rather bored. I eventually died to a ladder... c'est la vie! -
Starting location: The bean coast
Murdernickle replied to Cappy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think this could be an interesting experiment for Rocket and Co. as spawning without a gun has been (and I'm in the camp of believing that spawning with no gun is GREAT!). I tend to make my home in Berezhino now that cherno and elektro are so populated. Berezhino has military spawns, 3 deer stands, office, hospital, 2 supermarkets, apartments, and an airfield close by. I'm surprised I don't see more people there but it's usually just me and my friends Jaime, Jaime, and Jaime... all with the last name of Hyneman.. odd -
I assume he means nerF guns...but nerd guns made me lol... +10 interwebs to you sir!

Anybody else get killed by a nuke + all of the players on the server?
Murdernickle replied to samhandwich's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ya this has been happening a good bit. It was a lot worse before the global bans (you could expect it every night). Your best bet for avoiding it is once it happens, stay on that server. The hacker will probably jump servers to do it again and you can just chill there. Playing in off peak hours helps but no guarantees lol. -

No starter weapon removes survival instinct, and respect for zeds
Murdernickle replied to breetai3's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's funny... with a makarov I used to do the same... run into the airfield, up the tower, turn, kill every zed as they shambled through the door., then loot for real weapons. Now with nothing, I actually try to be careful and move in. I was actually ridiculously excited to find a makarov in elektro last night. TBH I think they should remove the backpack too at this point. -
Yes they do.. they'll go to where it hit and investigate a bit... then decide they have better things to do and derp away in a random direction lol.

Find a can or empty bottle. Put it in your inventory. Press F and you should see "Throw" in the top right corner. Stand up, no you can't crouch or prone and throw something sadly... Hold down the mouse button. the longer you hold the further it will be thrown. Let go to throw. Zeds investigate noises from 20-40m so throw it "close-ish" to them.

^^ This!! Gearing up is the most fun part of the game for me.

Happened to me last night...server was nuked so they're still around. Not much you can do about it besides start again and loot it up =)

Is having a 24hour daytime server allowed...?
Murdernickle replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
These servers are meant to be standardized. Modifying them in any way really isn't allowed. -

"Always daylight" or "always nighttime" servers are not allowed.. so ya I'd recommend maybe reporting them. -
Most depressing moment of DayZ so far
Murdernickle replied to Zakificus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mine was last night actually. After having a hell of a time getting a foothold in the new version (relearning stealth around the zeds) I FINALLY get past them with some effort. I make it to a brick house, heeeey a revolver with ammo...awesome! Some food and drink as well... even better. Off to the supermarket I go feeling a bit better about my chances should I aggro a zed. I make it there and sweet! Double barrel shotty and a good amount of ammo. More food, map, compass, matches, hunting knife, hatchet, watch...man I'm living now! I go into the backroom, oooh buddy... an Alice pack. Well that's mine. Loaded it with food and drink. Off to the church I go. Flares and chemlights...perfect because it's getting dark. I leave the church and start on my way, crawling avoiding zeds.. everything is going my way. I make it out of elektro.. I friggin made it and I am READY to hoof it up north with a bag full of gear and supplies... YOU ARE DEAD!... Entire server killed by a hacker... -
During my 2nd play period which was also my first time at night, i was chilling in TS with some friend who were doing other things. It was quiet for awhile while people were doing whatever there were into... long enough for me to forget I was in TS... I had turned up my sound to listen for zed noises and footsteps I'm just proning.. sneaking past a zed... i get into the building... completely dark. I find an Enfield and I equip it (my first gun that wasnt a makarov).. at that moment, someone in TS goes to say something but when they pushed the button they took a breath in before saying something... that breath was so loud due to me turning up the sound that i jumped, firing my brand new rifle... I was in Elektro... the entire city came to greet me..

Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update
Murdernickle replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
New update actually makes things manageable.. A few bugs -All ammo being dropped when picking up a box of matches - All ammo dropped again when picking up a watch - Watches for days in a supermarket... there were 8 of them in one market. Perhaps their spawn rate needs reduced? Not really a bug but the script kiddies are back. Atlanta 17 was just nuked. -
Hey everyone! Long time lurker, but this is the first time I've decided to actually register and get in on the posting. This community is divided heavily into many camps but I think it's possible for people from those different camps to come together for some intelligent discussion if presented with the right grounds and starting point. I've lurked long enough to know that I may get flamed or told to go to CoD and that's cool, but I'm looking for people from different play-styles and backgrounds to talk about their experiences with the latest changes. I'll start off with a bit about myself. I'm someone who had Arma 2 for a long time but never was able to get into that heavily. Perhaps the problem is that I'm a bit too used to the Battlefield style of pick up and play with friends and move on when you got bored. The heavy tactics and things like that weren't really my cup of tea and that's my fault for purchasing a game that didn't fit my style. At the time I was a bit younger (4 years to be precise) and perhaps I didn't fully appreciate what the game had to offer. When DayZ came along, I found it to be something quite different. I started as the newb asking for friendlies in Cherno as many of us did. Since then I've ran the spectrum from shoot on sight bandit, to geared out pacifist with a coyote backpack, all the food and drink i could want, as well as a car. I'm also someone that lost all of that to a single Lee Enfield shot and someone that got lucky! I mostly play solo not out of choice, but I have a group of friends that I typically play games with. I stay pretty loyal to them and none of them have really found this mod appealing sadly. So I'm a lone wolf usually and I have learned how to live on my own in the game. It's a different style of play, but a rewarding one. Lately some of the updates have been a bit problematic to my enjoyment of the mod. The increased zed intelligence and damage is at the forefront of that. I often could sneak in, move stealthily, be intelligent and get out not with ease, but with a certain amount of efficiency that came from time in the game. When I would get fully geared and I no longer needed things from towns, I would kill myself and start it all over again. That's how I enjoyed the game. With the new zombie mechanics there has been a decidedly high level of difficulty added to the game that I don't think was necessarily needed. We see a lot of players saying that they don't think zeds are a threat and to some extent that was true. To some extent, those players were making it that way by having all the ammo they could need as well as friends to raid with. I would imagine a zombie apocalypse would be easier when you basically have the force of a small military operation haha. The lone wolf is getting a bit left behind the further we go down this patch route. I know Rocket wants this to be a social game and that's wonderful. I fully expect places like NW airfield to be absolutely deadly and dangerous for single players. The small house on the outskirts of some little town, i would expect to be more friendly for a lone player such as myself. With the latest patches I'm having a hard time getting anywhere near a town. I sneak and watch for movements but I will inevitably get caught out which is a little disconcerting. There will always be a line between full simulation and an enjoyable experience. Rocket might have gone a little too far with these patches. 1.7 is where the game felt about right for me as far as detection. If I was careful I could get around usually, but I would still often get caught out by letting my guard down or making a poor decision. I would be punished for it and that's what I want. I now seem to be punished for moving stealthily or moving towards a town sadly. This is not to be taken as me being ungrateful for the work Rocket has done. This is a phenomenal mod and a huge undertaking. I'm heavily impressed with this mod feeling as polished as it does. Alpha is alpha and bugs will be bugs. Testing is testing and I know we're meant to test the bugs and go from there, but I think realistically we know that everyone has some feelings for the direction we want the mod to go. I'm going to continue playing and not OMGWTFRAGEQUIT.. that's never been my style. I will diligently alpha test and take the fun that I can get from the mod (which is a lot). In the mean time though I felt it was important to express my concerns on the latest set of patches. I'll look forward to the upcoming ones and seeing the direction of the game. I know that at the end of the day this is Rocket's mod and he will do as he pleases with it.. but it's also the community that makes a game truly stand out. If you would prefer a quick summary format of my opinions I'll list them below: - Zombie aggro is a bit out of skew as has already been discussed. - I feel 1.7 was spot on for zombie aggro during the day. - It's possible that many think the zeds are too easy due to playing with friends. - Worried that the mod is leaning too far towards group play and/or run and gun. - Still loving the alpha - Hoping for good feedback from this. So how do you all feel about the general direction of the mod currently?

Hoping for some cool heads...
Murdernickle replied to Murdernickle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For myself, my main frustration is people wailing so much about the current state. You check the forums, see that someone has elucidated the problems (as you have here, and others have), and then wait to see what the next update brings. All of these people talking about the game being ruined. ..... It's travelling a path, not at the end of one. Patience... But they seem to have none. They just want to denigrate those who are making this the great experience that it is and not give them a chance to work it out. That's more of where I'm coming from as well. I won't say I've been in a ton of alpha tests because that's not true. I've been through a few betas and they're a totally different beast than this. This mod is FAR from ruined in my eyes. Discouraging in the last few iterations? Well opinions differ on that as much as DNA differs from person to person haha. I feel like this is a very strong mod. It has the potential to go really far and I'm glad to be a part of it. I just hope cooler heads will prevail and we come out with something that is balanced allowing the lone wolf to survive in this world (or easier ways to group up) while providing challenging play for some people who do have the luxury of a consistent group. Perhaps different zones having different mechanics? Maybe the high value loot spots are more populated with zeds while smaller towns see their spawn rates heavily decreased? -
Hoping for some cool heads...
