With 1.7.1.5 serverhopping is pretty much the only viable way for a noob to gain access to a weapon and gear. Sure, you can go and RUN FORREST, RUN at town but what's the point of that. You will only end up bleeding yourself either dead or too low in health to be doing anything but logging into to a char that keeps passing out, while trying to crawl with broken bones to find the morphine that's simply not spawning anywhere. While playing 1.7.1.1 earlier today, I realized that 1.7.1.5 ruined the game for me. The zombies used to be scary, you were always on the edge while trying to sneak past them to loot the places . . it was rare to be encountered by a zombie and if you were attacked, it was always horrible and resulting death was always your own fault. With 1.7.1.1 you were always one with the world, constantly observing any movement while making small choices that would affect everything. Now you are only choosing WHERE TO RUN. You're totally, completely disconnected off the world and the experience it used to provide you with. Spell has been broken, so . . . . it's dead to me now. I don't feel anything but detached to it and there is nothing anyone can do to fix that.

You're only few clicks away from a server that still has daylight. Why bother?

I was driving my bike too, not as much stupid as it was hilarious but yeah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8soncEJ44-E Could've easily avoided the death and kept on going another few days if I had not driven the bike. But to me it was well worth it. Wish I had recorded the time I found tractor near the city center with pretty much zero fuel . . . . I can tell the tractor is loud and will agro every zed around you. Once the tractor runs out of the fuel middle of the town . . well, I can also tell those zeds are not afraid of the horn, like AT ALL.

If you can talk in Side Chat you have WRONG version
m2n2l2 replied to MissBehave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, if you have 1.7.1.5 you have the wrong version - it's made to lower the serverloads and for masochist pleasure only. 1.7.1 is the last fun one. -

Haha, I was just going to record me driving the bike, but that would've been boring. Kinda happy they did what they did, lmao. Shows the harsh reality of chernarus - one moment you are riding top of the world, next you are 6 feet under.

The REAL Newbie Guide (Don't Believe their lies)
m2n2l2 replied to Revant's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah. Take tactical survival mod and take the tactical out, you get this. Run Forrest, Run. No intensity, no tactics, just boring and repeating, mindless running around in town from one house to another hoping to gain access to loot. Or you could just go near beach to a pier where the zeds can't come (safezone) and then loot the houses next to the pier, jump to another server . . rinse and repeat. This is what happens when muppets get a say in developing a game. It's just shit now. -
Well, I was at cherno when some moron headshot me with plain beginner gear on (no weapon, no nothing). You know what I did? Spawned near the place the guy killed me, agroed every zed I could find while running to him and blam, followed him everywhere with the zeds after me. He lost a lot of blood during the process, but didn't die. Doesn't matter, I felt like justice was served. Ha.

Canada 2 didn't work for me, running latest beta and 1.7.1.5 . . . . I had compass, so I just ran SE for about an hour and got out of the desert of the real, ie. the never-ending wilderness. If you run out of food on the way, try logging in and out - not sure if changing version had to do something with it (I went 1.7.1.4/1.7.1.5 servers), but I got my food and water replenished 100% when I logged back in few times on different servers.

Life expectancy is going down. What do you think is happening?
m2n2l2 replied to hazychestnutz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not the lack of stuff that kills you, but the zombie behaviour. I don't mind starting with zero gear, it's just that the whole gameplay now consists either camping near the shore/pier and serverjumping to loot the houses nearby or running madly around the town from one house to another, hoping to gain access into loot while doing it. There's nothing tactical nor fun about it, it's just repetitive and boring. You can try crawling, see how far that gets you. The corner around the house with dead angle is going to throw another zed to your face and you're dead by the time you get up from the ground. -
What took you so long (:

Survivalrate is low, because they took the tactical out of the tactical survival mod and replaced it with Run Forrest, Run. -
Strategy used to be BE SMART, DON'T GET KILLED AND SURVIVE. Now it's RUN, FORREST, RUN.
-
You have to summon it. Did you do the pre-quests?

Meh. I'm not whining, I'm simply not interested in testing the barbwire, nor running around with the melee weapons. What I am interested in are the core elements of the game, that have been stripped away. The elements that made it fun for me and people like me. Right now for the beginner char the mod is just a really bad L4D with even worse dead island melee combat. Run Forrest, Run. EVERYONE IN-GAME I've talked about it agree; it's just stupid now. Only the most profound dicks on the boards trying gain access to rockets favourites are defending it. Sadly, usually the most profound dicks have the loudest voice and even further, they think it's still SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
-
Your words, wall of paint. Same to me and many others, too.
-
With the patches since 1.7.0 it feels like rocket is trying to cut off the servertraffic down so they can take it. I know I haven't enjoyed testing the game ever since. I had easily 3-4 daily hours of DayZ before the patches, now I feel reluctant to even take a look of the new patches.
-
Nah, it's stupid. You have to be face on the gravel 99% of the time. Slow, painfully slow. I'm reverting back to watching the paint dry. It's more fun.

Due the bloodloss, I fainted on ladders. When I came to, I was halfway stuck inside the wall. There should be at least stuck reporting option.

Right now being bandit is a good thing with zero negative sides. So . . what I'm suggesting is, make the choice and PRICE of becoming a bandit HARDER. First, make it so you have to shoot certain amount of zeds before you can turn into a bandit. This way ALL the players have to share the workload of gearing up, rather than giving the bandits advantage of raping innocent survivors for their gear and gaining access to great gear with ZERO effort. Then make the bandits visible through the recruite mode. If someone wants to hunt others players because they've achieved everything in the game, at least make it HARD for them. More you've killed survivors, higher the range people can see you. Also, make the banditkillers "headhunters". If you kill a bandit, you will gain full blood and their gear. Since bandits are visible through the recruit mode, it will make their life what they think they want it to be - HARD. There was also a suggestion if a bandit wants to become normal survivor again (non-visible through the recruitmode) he could kill 5 other bandits without capability to loot and rewards and gain normal survivor status. There are few practical implications you have to consider if you consider pulling this off . . . . for example the first kill of a bandit, you'd have to be able to defend yourself from one without getting labeled as a bandit. Possible lootblock for people below certain amount of zed kills might work, but yeah. This is the kind of idea that would be the first big step towards roleplaying kind of gameplay. You're not choosing a class, but you'd be choosing the side by your own actions.
-
Yeah, it's lame for people who don't enjoy the game, but just jump in to leech from the people who BUILD the backbone of the game. Since it's so cool, go to low population server, head to airport and then with your makarov, log out and back in to high population server. Spawn to kill the snipers and loot their stuff and tell me how much fun it is.
-
Well, it could be considered a gamemode, like capture the flag etc etc.

1.7.1.4 is crap, it really is. Zeds see you ~100 meters away and once agroed, summon other zeds to go after you - even if those zeds were behind the walls. Melee sucks and I've maintained amazing 14fps instead of the ~30 with the current patch. Anyways . . Revert the game back to the way it was around 1.7.0 . . then give the game more of a roleplayaspect. For example, the engine has such thing as recruit mode, which allows you to see the enemies/friendlies/zeds marked with dots. Now . . give advanced players with certain amount of kills (say, 100) this skill with highly, highly limited range (say, 50-100 meters). Then with every 100 new kills, increase the range. Murderers should not gain access to the skill at all. (Perhaps even limit the skill so you only see bandits). If you have 100 headshots, base weaponaccuracy could increase ~2-5% and with every 100 headshots . . well, you get the point. Point is not to give advanced players a big advantage, but a SENSATION they've achieved something and therefor gained access to something cool. This would make players also more protective and dedicated to their chars; now there is no penalty if you die near the beach and run fast to loot the body with the new char. I've done this and I'm sure many others have too. I'd also consider making areas with "locust" swarms of zeds . . killing them all will summon a "master" zed which will have a low droprate of rare, rare weapons if killed. This would unite and lure people to do a "bossrun" rather than go shooting each others in hopes of good loot - if losing the skill to see your surroundings through the recruit skill isn't threat big enough. Skills shouldn't really be that hard to implement. You just track certain features (like how long the char has travelled by foot and then give the player x% more walking/runningspeed). Drug withdrawal. Do morphine, suffer from minor withdrawal symptoms (cold, shakes). Safezone for friendly people to meet up and even trade.
