  1. i don't say that bringing back the gun is a good idea, it isn't like in a real crises every human has a gun, but i do understand your concern, i sugjested a whole melee weapon system, giving normal weapons and the flashlight a melee attack, and adding melee weapons, giving you a fighting chance, http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=17535 (if interested) as it is now, the zombies also need tweeking, as they are like superpeople who see trough buildings and as most buildigns ask you to stand up or croutch to get into them you are as good as dead, especially when there is nothing in them man i miss my makarov at times ;.;

    seems a awesome idea, i would also ad a trader like npc in the village as i think when people try to rebuild live as it was (or at least make it better)there will also be greedy people that want to make a profite as trading material i would just say building resources and ammo you don't want, to trade it for other ammo and food and so nice idea how it is though :)

    i had to lol a little with this i understand your point, but i think it is also a danger xD having "fun" in the middle of apocalypse , to die shortly after , well it is a nice way to die, but not really suited for this game (no offence) and it is true, most people are guys ingame, and even though i don't mind it, i think a lot of others don't want that kind of "fun" But alcohol should be in, not just to be drunk ingame, but also because in a real Apocalypse people want to forget it at times, and i think a blurry and shaky vision while trying to kill things look fun xD

    i understand and support this i am a loner ingame myself though i tend to help people who need it but it ends mostly in 3 ways then. 1. i get shot, even though i saved there asses 2. They start stalking me and bothering me, getting in the way and attracting hordes of z's (no offence but i don't want noobs to follow me, though i understand it) 3. they leave and we don't see each other again (which i prefer) no my point is that it would be a lot more handy indeed to be able to save myself then look for once of those few who don't run away or shoot me on sight

Everybody saw the hatchet becoming a weapon,and the crowbar added to the game (i feel so half-life holding it :3) But they take the main slot, though it is a good weapon if you got nothing better, it is highly uninviting if you got a better weapon for there. Now i know that the pending hotfix is changing this so you can place them on your toolbar ( http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=16925 in case you missed it) But that isn't what i am suggestion (though it will help a lot) What I am suggesting are new weapons, I mean things like being able to use the hunting knife as a more dagger like weapon. Smaller knifes and so would also take the secundairy slot instead of the main slot which will make it more attractive to use to . Or for example the back of your weapon to knock zomby's or players into a stun (and steal there loot) 1st knifes and so Adding or at least making the hunting knife as a weapon, and maybe new knifes to use. for example: -Hunting knife: low damage but quick attacks. -butcher knife: found in residential area's and kitchens overall, a little slower attack , like a chopping attack, but it deals more damage. -some homemade weapons like a piece of glass with some bandages as a handle: same attack speed as a hunting knife but less damage. -maybe use steel bolts to make some weapon or just to stab necks with the tip : instant kill when hit but chance to break the bolt when you attack with it and thus loosing ammo for the crossbow. -maybe some other things like actual swords or katana's or so, just for kicks, they would have a longer range and do massive damage, but are slow. And with all the weapons, it will drain stamina when used, so it will slowly make you tired (the bigger/heavier the weapon the faster) and thus your attacks will slow down to (and you won't be able to run at full speed when it fails) 2nd: Using the back of weapons to knock npc's and players down example: use a lee to knock a player into the knock out state to loot them without actually killing them, good for groups of players where somebody wants there loot but doesn't want to loose humanity (or not to much), or go trough the trouble of loosing a lot of ammo to kill them and possibly die in the progress. depending on the gun you may be able to actually break legs and knock them down longer , adding when they do wake up they are forced to crawl, thus unable to follow you, and if it is a player, it can be like bate for zombies (like placing a flare on the body to attract zomby's in the area to finish the job and thus not get a count on your murder counter) A makarov will do less when hit to the head then a Lee or a AK I think. and if you keep hitting them with such a blunt object, being able to break legs should be a thing to, if zombies can do it then we should be able to do that to :p. Ofcourse this should work on zomby's to . Switching guns is just a pain at times , switching to the knockdown modeis faster and it will give a quick escape. Because bashing some zomby's skulls is faster then stopping putting your gun away taking your other gun , aim (or fire randomly out of fear) and hopefully kill it ,no? And ontop of that, it is more silent, though i think it should have a little sound around it, so that it isn't fully godlike The switching between firing a gun and hitting things with it would happen like switching firing modes . Ofcourse I can understand that coding it might be tricky with the current things already in the mod, and because of the mod being epic already , it might just be nice , and especially hitting things with guns could be a lifesaver at times.(would also be applied on the flashlight as you are to defenseless when you start, it might make getting started a little more possible. =========== *short version* =========== -New melee weapons. ***take secondairy slot. ***quick to attack. ***easier to find then guns, but less powerful and more personal ***silent -melee option on guns. ***knock out players and loot them without killing them. ***quick escape when you are out of ammo. ***breaking legs and arms if you really want to. ***having a fighting chance with only a flashlight (though it is a small one) ***silent and faster then switching* ***fighting chance when out of ammo Sorry for the long post but I think plowing trough a horde of z's with a katana would just look epic (and foolish). again, everything here are just suggestions are I don't mind if they aren't (or only partly) realized.     i know what you mean, i was steathy to get inside a building, and when i got out , i was forced to crouch walk out of it , and when i set the first step outside 5 zombies saw my, from like 30meters away wth i am skilled in dayZ but now it is impossible to do anything without being seen :/

    it reminds me a little like the latest splintercell games, where if you where detected it left a outline of where you where, meaning they will be attracted to there overall it is a idea that should be added, as it is more realistic, and would add a lot to the feeling but i think it might take a while to code, but it does sound awesome :D
  8. Good idea, but there is one problem, there are a lot of new players , as the mod becomes more popular new players means a lot of dead people, as they are not used to surviving. I understand you want to "punish" the killers, but in this way you will also punish people that aren't good in the game, that are killed , or just had a bad run . But again, if you force people to make a new name for every new char that they make, it will makes a bond with the char. i got mixed feelings about it, It has great things behind the idea, but also troubles behind it. A other thing on that is that friends you have been with before death might not recognize you anymore there will be people that will missuse it by saying they are that friend they just lost, (small chance but yea) with the new name.(part of that can be prevented by giving you a surtain look and voice inside the profile selection of arma2 , i got a zomby face with shades :D) which will make people recognizable , and ads that little more of a bond between player and character (sorry to much random thoughts) It is overall a interesting idea that might need a "little" more thought, or a other use.but i like it :3. Sorry for the long reply xD i was giving my mind about it, if you aze interested :3
  9. the easiest way is to run straight trough a building, like those red once, for some reason they stop chasing , running inside some houses and quickly closing doors sometimes helps, but the sound of the waiting undead really rips trough my patience and if you are near a coastal city, climbing ladders to cranes seems to help before this patch came out xD i am a pro outrunner of z's ;p i been outrunning them before they could be outrunned because of a bug xd which still works great :) (i think it is a bug at least)

    i am one of the few friendlies, i saved a guy who was chased shared my ammo, saluted and moved on, i was in a group of friendlies before, sadly they had to die in a big attack in cherno :/ but i understand what you want to say, i been killed for a empy ak, if it wasn't empty he would have been killed, my attacker, but i only had a flashlight lol calling for friendlies doesn't seem to help in the latest patches as nobody seems to respond which is annoying
  11. ok 1st I want to know this, did you update your dayZ to the latest version AND did you get the arma2 beta patch. (arma2 patch: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php ) 2nd don't worry about the cfgweapons , I get it on every server I join, but as soon as I click ok it is all fine, you might want to look for a solution, but i didn't have any problems. 3rd , the no hatchet is when you enter a wrong server or you have a wrong dayZ if you go to the wrong (older server or a server that has a newer dayZ installed you get these errors) that is all i can give atm

I was running around in the dark, with my flashlight on, shining at zomby's and they didn't react, i could just signal them a SOS without them even giving a kick But as i remember they are attracted to flares , so i was thinking: what if there is a certain attraction of the zomby's troughwards the light of a flashlight. not the same as a gun, but that they feel the need to check the source of the light, or at least that it counts on the stealth meter. It is just something that would be adding the the realistic feeling of the game, and probably will add to the feeling of danger in the night. This is my suggestion , give it some tought :)
