Why isn't it called Day I then?
-
No, I don't want it back. I can always find some sort of weapon within 30 minutes.

You should just practice and experiment. It's kind of hard to explain. Run up steep hills, run through buildings or structures or make sharp turns around a house. The second you break line of sight, you have to get at least to crouch and try to restealth. The zombies will search where they last saw you, so you need to not only break line of sight, but then move away from where they last saw you. Best plan though is not to be spotted. Scout out an area and watch zombie movements before you try to raid.

Wow things have gotten pretty bad
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to gizm0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would love to see a 2 minute "logging out," where it's like going unconscious in the game. Yep, sometimes it would suck if you got a DC, but it's worth it to avoid the lame server hopping. -
I support this thread! +1

Thanks to Legdiin and Dr. Wasteland. First player interaction. (Story.)

hehe, nice story! -
You should look on the survivor forums for some people to group with because in the current state of the game, it has become a shoot first world. It's shocking how quickly it changed ( a change which did coincide with the removal of the bandit skin, I might add ). I believe that a future build might do something to encourage less mindless killing, but right now it's rare to meet a total stranger and not have it end in gunfire. TBH though, playing solo can be a lot of fun. Sometimes I enjoy that more than being with a group, but the tension can be overwhelming - especially on a crowded server.

Dude, you're asking if it's okay for you to steal something for entertainment because you can't afford it - no it isn't.

* First off, I'm not bashing anyone who wants to play third person. Have at it! * A friendly suggestion for new players, especially ones who enjoy a challenge - seek out a 3DP:off server. As someone who got my feet wet playing with third person enabled, I was floored at how much more difficult and immersive the game is when you are locked in first person view. Warning: navigating through zombies is significantly more difficult, but your heart will race when you know the zombies are right on your trail, but you can't quiet see them over your shoulder. The other benefit is that you avoid the stalking "exploits" prevalent in PVP on 3DP servers. Look, the game is supposed to be tough and this makes it tougher. At least give it a chance and play one or two sessions on a 3DP:off server and see how you like it.

It's too bad because this game would do well with some RP servers. I feel like a lot of that went away when they took out the bandit skins. The game went from survivors and bandits to bandits and bandits. Try the 3DPoff servers. They tend to attract a slightly different crowd. Regardless, no one is stopping you from RPing. There's that one dude who is playing a medic - Dr. Wasteland, MD. You might also check in the survivor or bandit HQ forums. I know there are some groups that seem to be doing a theme, which is basically all RPing is.

How can you restore your blood?
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to sam.turner054@yahoo.com's topic in New Player Discussion
If you get a hatchet (to cut wood), a box of matches (to make a fire), a hunting knife (to gut the animal) and a weapon to kill an animal - then you can take advantage of cooked meat. Cooked meat restores 800 blood a serving. A cow yields 8 pieces of meat, so that is 6400 health. Canned food yields 300 blood a serving. Once you have the gear, it's easy to keep yourself alive. The other alternative is to get someone to give you a blood transfusion. This requires a blood pack. It restores you to full health. -

Dead over a Box Of Matches...
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to solus84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I saw - no joke - 3 boxes of matches yesterday. I left them sitting there because I already have one. Supermarkets or open homes have them. If you are playing for multiple days without finding one, it's bad luck. Maybe try a slightly less populated server until you come across them? I usually play on a 30 max. -
i persoanlly would love to see third person removed entirely
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to A.Jones's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Third person runs counter to the theme of realism and immersion. Zombie encounters are trivialized and PVP is highly exploitable. The game would be better without it, but once pandora's box is open...yada, yada, yada. -
Announcing your presence and to kill or not to kill
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to Xelacalle's topic in New Player Discussion
My gear is too good at the moment to trust anyone, so I gotta shoot on sight, but otherwise I'm not looking for trouble. Last somewhat friendly encounter I had was in a barn early in the game. I sneaked in prone to avoid the zombies outside. The only weapon I had at the time was an axe. When I felt like the coast was clear, I made my way to the second floor and jumped back when I saw another player facing me. **THUMP** crowsbow impales me and bleeding and being a bit discombobulated, I dropped back to the bottom floor to bandage. In retrospect, I should have axed the guy, but I was more surprised than anything. I said over voice comm "No weapon, just spawned. Either you let me walk or I will agro every zombie in the vicinity before I die." The guy never said a word, but after a minute he walked down the stairs and crawled out the door without an incident. I should have hit him with the axe as he left, but I kind of understand where he is coming from, I had appeared a couple of feet away from him brandishing an axe. Makes sense he would shoot. -
Barbed Wire Getting Annoying
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to Bruce (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The barbed wire isn't the issue, the server hopping and exploitation is the issue. Fix server hopping and we have no issue. -
this mod SUCKS BALLS without any RL friends to play with
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to dakaa's topic in New Player Discussion
There are a couple of good Let's Plays on youtube that are being done solo. I played solo for the first couple of weeks that I played the game and thought it was fun. I do wish that you had the ability to use a blood pack without help, but other than that it's a fun time with or without friends. -
bring back the normal zombie agro system now! 0.o
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to kauley_hatton@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Really? This post was made after 1.7.1.5? Man, if you're having trouble with zombies on this patch, you're doing something wrong. Look, there has to be a risk to sneaking around zombies and there is. In some of the earlier patches it was easy to the point where you could crouch run through a city without much worry. There are lots of posts in the new players section that give you tips on improving your sneaking. Maybe you could search through a few of those and it will help your survivability, because zombie agro is definitely avoidable with a little forethought and technique. -
The morphine/broken leg situation sucks
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to flevius's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree that there should be an alternative to morphine and the splint idea is a good one. One of the first things that I do when I respawn is head to one of the cities and get morphine. If I'm playing solo, I take 5. For me, it has become on par with getting a weapon and some food and water. -
The only thing to keep in mind, break line of sight. When you come around the corner of a building or run in one door and out the other, you will break sight. What I do is instantly go to crouch walk then go prone. I hear other people just get distance with crouch walk, but I'm saying what works for me. If you keep practicing you will figure it out. You can also use hills to break LOS, but if you are starting off without a gun and you agro a zombie outside of town, you deserve to die. They are easily avoidable outside of town. If you get some in a town, use the buildings to break LOS, go back to stealth.

Is 3rd person really going away?
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to jjeez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If he is going for realism, then removing the 3rd person would be logical. Third person makes sneaking and stalking EZ-mode. -
Zeds in buildings. Bug or on purpuse?
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to Ralphfromdk's topic in New Player Discussion
Get a whisky bottle and throw it at the building. Sometimes you can get them to leave to investigate. -
Frustrated with difficulty curve and comments about simulation aspect
Buzzo (DayZ) replied to liamecrow's topic in New Player Discussion
The game gets easier if you stick with it. The early part of the game is the toughest. Some people like to go inland and loot barns, some people like to stick around the cities. It's a matter of preference. Personally, I like to prioritize going to Cherno or Electro to get morphine because broken legs are death sentences without it. I'm looking for canteen, backpack, sidearm and as much food and water as I can carry. I want a rifle and sidearm. If I know I'm going to be solo, I won't worry about blood packs, etc. Some things that have really helped me sneak: 1) Outflank packs of zombies. Instead of going straight through a town, circle around it, spotting out the buildings you want to hit from a distance. Sneak in and loot those buildings, then if you need to sneak back out to a treeline or other vantage point to scout out another building. 2) Get good with the alt key. Always be looking around. Keep an idea of where the zombies are at all times. Sometimes you won't see them, but you almost always can hear them. If they sound close but you can't figure out where they are, back out and locate the them before going further. 3) Throw cans and bottles. It took me a week of play before I realized how effective this can be. If you throw a can or a bottle and it lands in the general vicinity of a zombie, they will go over to investigate. I use this all the time early in the game to clear out zombies that are guarding buildings. -
Check out Left4Dead. See ya.

Saw this in another thread: RP bandits: vs. the random people running up and down the beach shooting newbs for lols. This game has gone to such lengths to be realistic, certain behavior can ruin the vibe. I would definitely be interested in a server like this, so if anyone knows of some, message me.
