THE BEAR TRAPS ARE COMING! :O
jblackrupert replied to james2464's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People will find a way to duplicate them even if they are rare. Most of the last few changes seem to be aimed at handing the game over to hackers and griefers. The DayZ bubble is going to burst pretty soon I expect if this continues, alpha or not. -
"Butt-hurt" Hackers use that term a lot when caught. Server logs are nice but profiling works in games and real life. certain types of people just tend to share the same behaviors and tend to make very similar excuses.

friend banned from north carolina 2 for name
jblackrupert replied to wedgehoe4's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If the server has message about offensive names and you keep coming back and get a ban, then thats fine IMO But if they say nothing, no server messages about names and they ban you outright then thats a problem. Admins have a right no create rules that keep people from causing problems with others including player names. Some people do go out of their way to draw attention to themselves in that way. -
I did read the entire thread, it's complete bulls#$. They got caught and their lame excuse [overtheating] combined with the tale of what happened just confirms it. Thats the thing about spotting hackers. It's not always a single detail that stands out it's a combination of several and they reason they use for what people saw.

"Mage" on chigago 15 - very suspisciously good at getting high-end gear.
jblackrupert replied to harryzhe's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You should buy a lot of lottery tickets Mage, you have a gift -
It's just one of many many lame excuses hackers come up with try to wiggle out of being caught. The fact that all this is occuring so far north is a clear sign that it's bull@#$ if his system overheated and crashed that much the chances he'd even get that far in the game while gathering good loot is slim to none.

Weird Encounter, ghosts in game?!?
jblackrupert replied to auge103's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's a civilian female burka model introduced in Arrowhead, not a ghost. -
How come I cant use BAF & PMC with DayZ ?
jblackrupert replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The BAF and PMC Sprocket versions work with Steam. -
Find the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch and your rabbit problems will be over. As for the trees, you might want to speak with Rocket, he's from New Zealand [Middle Earth] so maybe he can have a talk with Treebeard about dealing with them.

Bear traps sound cool but in the REAL WORLD they will be nothing more then another griefing tool and duped like crazy.

Why are most vehicles destroyed?
jblackrupert replied to zecele's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There was a sale at Wal-mart on appliances and the infection hit while they were being delivered to homes. Come on, it's not that hard to figure out. -
What were the arma developers thinking?
jblackrupert replied to myndziuss's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hacking existed in Arma long before DayZ. Unless they are blatantly spawning mass amounts of vehicles, vehicles not available in the mission or carpet bombing it's very hard to spot because of the distances involved. -
Why are most vehicles destroyed?
jblackrupert replied to zecele's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's from all the excess gas in the air from the beanz and soda corroding the metal. -
Unless there are different keyboard layouts for different versions of the game the default salute key is the backslash key "\" I have the North American version of the game.

Walling? (bullets penetrating objects)
jblackrupert replied to Bungles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bullet penetration is modeled in Arma but there are several variables that decide wether a round penetrates through an object and how much damage it does if it does. - Material - Type of round - Distance There might be more. A search of the Official Arma forum will probably give you some answers. Rounds fired through and at certain surfaces and objects will ricochet as well and cause damage. -
DayZ for Iron Front Liberation1944?
jblackrupert replied to swert's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because they would have lost sales if they told everyone the deal with modding up front. Do you honestly believe a modding team failed to read the contract and didn't notice a significant portion of it states that they have to approve eveything before it's released? The whole Bohemia wants to protect the engine from hackers is a load a hogwash if that were true eveything on Armaholic would have to go through the same vetting process. The Project Reality team was up front about the fact that anyone wanting to create content for that would have to go through a process of having their work checked and go through a voting process for it to be integrated into the PR mod. The reaction to the PR announcement was pretty much 50/50, chances are the IF devs didn't want to scare off the against crowd so they stayed quiet about it until after the first week sales died down. -
DayZ for Iron Front Liberation1944?
jblackrupert replied to swert's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No mods allowed in Iron Front unless you kiss their butts and they approve it. The claim it's a contract issue between them and Bohemia but thats probably complete bull. -
Sorry Blippy but the reports of this behavior have been flooding in since 1.7.1.4 or whatever version introduced the LOS system. other things that occur. - Zombies can see through buildings - Entering a building can trigger zombies from all around to just snap and pursue you into the building. - Ever since 1.7.1.5, zombies can walk through some walls. - Attacks through walls can still occur - Zombies can walk through stairs and attack you from below if you are standing on them.
-
They aggro at a lot more then 50 metres. I've had them go nuts while laying prone in the trees from 200+ metres away.
-
Stealth will now get you killed, charging through town like a madman is now how to play. Zombies SEE through walls, it's not just a hearing thing. Standing still crouched inside ANY buidling with no hands on the keyboard and mouse still gets zombies going on freakouts Zombies even walk completely through some walls.

Did Arma II's Franchise get saved by DayZ Mod?
jblackrupert replied to Igor (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Arma was never in any trouble. The issues of low MP players counts is because of several reasons. - Arma players are older, generally 25-55. The majority being over 30 which means they have more real world responsiblities that take precedence over playing Arma a lot Jobs, Kids, mortgage payments....etc. - Addons. Many servers are running addons that sometimes can't be identified by reading the kick message and some of those servers don't have webpages you can visit to find out what they are. This is being worked on for Arma 3 Addon managers are also not the best, they work but can be a bit clunky and not very user friendly. - Steep learning curve and clunky system of movement. Scares off a lot of people except people willing to work around it. - High system requirements and issues with even high end systems not getting the performance they should. An issue being worked on all the time. - Lack of advertising when Arma was coming out, a buggy release and a demo thats still out there that people think is the way Arma still is. DayZ is putting extra money in Bohemia's pockets, so hopefully they will use that to advertise more, be able to afford to put people onto jobs fixing the issues and adding stuff they couldn't do before because of costs. The fact that DayZ is a totally unforgiving mod means that the community doesn't have to worry about a flood of COD kiddies with ADHD. PC Gamer is one of the few magazines that has employees that have been Arma fans since the days of Operation Flashpoint. They did stories on it every few months, now with DayZ they talk about Arma almost daily. So long as Bohemia doesn't forget it's roots as a mil-sim developer theres no reason that DayZ and any other future mod like it won't be a good thing. -
Can you get a global ban for FRAPS?
jblackrupert replied to thygrrr's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
FRAPS is a favorite lame excuse for hackers who've been caught. In 3 years there has never been a verified ban caused by FRAPS or any other recording software in Arma. -
Deer stands are usually guarded by at least 3 zombies so be careful.
