i really dont think this is a good idea and is one of those reality "omissions" to make the game a game. nothing is more annoying than when a character. which is supposed to be me. makes me do something i dont actually feel. i myself. in real life. exit the game when i am tired. to make me do this in game serves as disconnect between ME and my character which is SUPPOSED to be me. but not only that imagine you are "tired" and you are attacked. imagine how infuriating that would be never mind the secondary effects about how people engage with the game and their behavior. making people more recluse and not wanting to "risk" getting into the funest part of the game which is the engagements. to much "micromanagement" like these do not add but detract from a multiplayer game. i think singleplayer there is respects for it. like greenhell for example. but you have to always keep in mind the main PURPOSE of dayz. -
i think its important to keep in mind the "more" depth or basically anything you add to the game. the more stuff you have the more taxing it is on the mind and can take away from the experience. especially when it comes to gear and such. where now you find shirts and everything but before (arma 2) it wasnt like that. you found clothing packets. where now there is SO MUCH to lose that it almost makes people not want to engage in the more interesting part of the experince like the hold ups and stuff because they just have so much to lose. building a game is definitely a balancing act but i think arma 2 really set the gold standard to how much depth a game needs to have to not take away from the experience and focus on what really matters. FEELING and ENVISIONING yourself in the apocalypse. wet clothes and sleeping i think are too much maintenace and detracts from the game.

Hello everyone! I have come here to voice my concerns about the state of the game, primarily the current Movement and Gunplay mechanics in the game. What has made me think a lot about this recently is that me and my friends have been trying to create our own server. Not to be considered "Hardcore" but to be more in line with reality than what seems to be the vast majority of the servers available right now. For example; No Unlimited Sprint, Balanced Weapon rarity, More realistic vehicle fuel consumption and things similar to this that would detract from the PVP, call of duty fantasy land that a lot of servers are basing themselves in. However the more we have worked on the server and the more we have tried to achieve this vision of creating a server to embody what dayz should really feel like I have come to realize that dayz in its current form can no longer be the "hardcore" survival game that it was originally intended to be. Because of the games current foundations, most notably. Its Movement and Gunplay mechanics Dayz cannot accommodate a truly hardcore experience to what it was founded upon. But What do I mean by this? Lets start with Movement, Everything you do IE; Turning, Leaning, Running, Crouching, Going Prone, Side stepping. Are all done extremely quickly with no inertia or delay from the characters movements. This all leads to problems like twitch shooting. 360 no scopes and many other things you would find in your favorite shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield. 1.) Leaning speed has lead to people rapidly spamming the Q and E buttons to bob and weave their head while spraying people down. 2.) Going prone from the standing position takes a mere split second all while allowing you to hipfire your weapon on the way down. 3.) While rolling you are allowed to not only shoot but aim with hipfire mid roll. 4.) The Speed of walking and sprinting have been constrained to two speeds with nothing in between. With walking being arguably slow and sprinting being pretty fast. These are just some of the problems with the current movement system that leads to Call of Duty levels of play not Dayz. Next Gunplay, Things like; Hipfire and ADS are all done extremely quickly with little to no feeling of weight, sway or recoil at all. At least compared to .62 levels, which I believe were in the right direction to where the game should be. Conclusion, All the choices in the games design to speed up and add to the fluidity of movement at the cost of realism and simulation have detracted from the vary foundation Dayz was built upon and leaves the game in a position which is impossible to achieve its original vision of creating a hardcore zombie survival simulator. All these design flaws in the foundations of the game add up to make the game play no better than the next Call of Duty or Battlefield or whatever casual triple A shooter is coming out this year. Without fixing or attempting to fix these vital flaws to the game will forever leave Dayz handicapped in its pursuit to create a truly Hardcore zombie survival simulator. Now I do understand that it may be too late for Dayz or at least the standalone at this point. And the reasoning for these design decisions were not to better the game but to dumb it down for consoles. To make more money and effectively sacrifice Dayz for the betterment of Bohemia so they can funnel all the new money they made from consoles to their next installment in their beloved Arma series. But I didn't come here to bash bohemia about their business practices. I wrote this so hopefully somebody at bohemia will read this and be aware of the major issues to the vary foundation of the game. And not only that so anyone reading this can be aware of these issues as well and understand why Dayz in its current form cannot and will not be able to achieve its vision of being a truly Hardcore zombie survival simulator. If you agree with what I have said here and would like to see Dayz return to its original vision, please. Upvote, Like, Comment. do whatever part you can to make this post be seen by Bohemia and others so they can at least be aware of the concerns we have of the game and at the very least wipe any uncertainty from our minds that "they just dont know". taking unfortunate ignorance off the table and leave us confident in knowing, WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, that these choices have been made PURPOSEFULLY. VOLITIONALLY. and not by mere mistake to go against the core foundations of dayz. to degrade it. and make it into something that it was never meant to be. something it never SHOULD be. Thank you! i see. i see. you what would be interesting to experiment with would be left hand thumbstick control and right hand mouse control. that could maybe be something. but to be honest i dont really care "real" movement. at BEST i care that it gives me the ILLUSION of being real. which arma 2 very much gave me that illusion in my mind and impression. im not really a big fan of "realism" qua realism. in that game 1 to 1 manufactures reality. reality is boring. that is why i play games. i think there is MUCH more to be gained from have a RECREATED and retailored reality than something that is just as we get every day. because at the end of the day the game simply cant be "real". it just cant. its a game and nothing is going to trick your mind of that fact when all you have to be is even 1% self conscious while playing to break that illusion. you literally have to 100% get rid of the self to make it happen. just like how neo in the matrix believes the matrix is truly real UNTIL finds out his actually body is in that pod. once he knows the "real" is in the pod the matrix ceases to be nothing more than a playground. I believe in ROMANTICISM not realism.

that is an interesting point. i have not put much thought into the fact that 3rd or 1st person very much does change how the player character would move and inputs would be felt for example. but just because a pc can use a controller does not change the fact thumbsticks are FAR more different control tha a mouse. its ASTRONOMICAL difference of control which leads to the dumb point and click gunplay the game is today because mouse is just such a lazer beam input device. the ONLY way i see control being better in respects is the COMFORTABILITY of the controller. its just more comfortable and less "serious" aura when using it. but i think that basically goes against the CORE energy and entity that is dayz. dayz is NOT supposed to be felt that way. it is MEANT to be serious. which is why it was born from arma 2. a SERIOUS game. which solidified its original creation and identity. ii think its a bit of a tall order for me to say exactly what i want the system to look like without actually being able to try anything and TEST. that would me fully abstracting out some system in my head. but for reference i liked the "clunkiness" of the old games in its movement. specifically the delay in moving left to right. which is how reality is. you have to PIVOT from left foot to move right. in reality that movement IS "clunky" by game expectations. but that CLUNK is important because it GROUNDS you to the world and makes you FEEL every foot step. every boot press into the ground.

if that "taste" includes a difficultless game with point and click gunplay with one tap weapons with zero recoil. yes. that is objectively braindead. what bohemia needs to do is fix the fundamental systems of the game that effect exactly HOW the game is experienced and perceived. movement, gunplay and aesthetics. vanilla IS important. because that is effectively the "standard" of the game. it is the poster. it is the image that shapes the expectations and embodies whatever "identity" the game is trying to be. i WOULD NOT have a problem with this if it was the other way around. where the systems were harder and then people made custom servers that stripped those systems to the game we have today. not make it easy and have to make people actually have to make dayz what it actually is.

i think "THE" vision. is how the dayz was initially created in arma 2. everything from the difficulty to how the zombies acted. all those aspects when given a final estimation was given the title "dayz". and thats what dayz is. anything that strives from that initial standard IS NOT dayz. and yes that seems to be the key. just keep the baseline gameplay loop JUST enough to keep people coming back but basically do nothing to improve it. and most importantly above all else. KEEP IT EASY. gotta keep the braindead playing the game and people who dont like to "try" too hard

this is another problem driving the game. that simply because there is no other game this is an excuse to degrade and destroy the experience. instead of having integrity and fulfilling the vision and soul of the game. this idea that "player counts are rising! PLAYER COUNTS ARE RISING!" is the most braindead thing ive ever heard. completely evading the question of HOW it is happening. what did we do to get these players? did we dumb down the game? are we flooding the game with cheap kids to prop up our numbers? are we debasing the experience for the sake of boosting a number?

its not even that console HAS to be an issue. the issue is that the game is being made for BOTH and not their respective inputs. keyboard is just fundamentally different than a controller. and to make them both the same means computer has to fundamentally suffer because the lower sense of control thumbsticks have. if we were to DO THE RIGHT THING. there would be two seperate creations of the game. but we want to be cheap and do it all at once and dumb down the entire experience for the sake of console gamers

i absolutely agree with you and it definitely makes sense. however with reforger we can already see the direction these future games are going to be. arma 4 aswell as dayz 2. gunplay casual. movement casual. basically just a baby shooter. boring. baby. and braindead.

the problem is, is that playing on console would be IMPOSSIBLE with those changes. simply because the gun movements would be completely uncontrolable with a thumbstick. i know because this same thing happened when valve tried to put csgo on console. it was completely unplayable. and yes it is fun. i played it for a short period of time when dayone had the legacygunplay mod on the chernarus server and it was some of the most fun ive had in the game in ever. simply because i wasnt being quickscoped with mosins and people were shooting at me and actually missing. dayz isnt dayz anymore its shilled to the console audience instead of doing the RIGHT THING and having two different versions of the game of console and pc. where console would just be the "lite" version of the game and pc would be the real deal. but i guess we dont care about doing the right thing anymore and doing a game its justice.

of coarse i am right. cause they dont want it to be "dayz" anymore they want it to be a dumbed down cod shooter to attract the low hanging fruit of children.

kind of an early celebration dont you think? you havent even seen what their going to do or whether its even good or not. for all we know they just bump up the recoil values by 5% and call it a day. which is no way even CLOSE to the real issues causing this experience. and seeing as the game has to be in symbiosis or symmetry with the console version of the game i cant see how anything of great substance will change or what needs to be done because it is inherently unfeasible with the metaphysical fact of using a controller. on top of that i made this post 3-4 years ago. so to think i had anything to do with this and they actually read this forum. which they've said they dont. is highly unlikely. otherwise they would have done it YEARS AGO. what is more likely is they've run out of ideas over there and are scrambling to justify still working on the game while "tweaking" by basically changing nothing. long live the idea and experience that was dayz! who is john galt?

these people know whats going on. i find it impossible that some one like sumrak doesnt see whats going on with the game. especially anyone else there that actually played the previous versions of the game. its a volitional choice to do this to the game. to dumb it down to get the "easy" players into the game. you know the ones. the ones who dont like to think too hard and just want to run around and kill people with little effort quickscoping people with mosins Q. E spamming. jumping around everywhere when shot at. honestly. at this point. i dont care. i hope they run the game into the ground from catering to the kiddies so another company creates a game that is actually authentic apocalypse like arma 2 was and .62 attempted to be and puts them out of business for shilling out the game for children who is john galt?

i agree. i find it hard to imagine anyone who was actually playing the game would put up with these things and wouldnt see this. which makes me think these people just make things for the game without actually playing it and feeling it. which is not a good disconnect to have when creating ANY product. but the difference between zombie and infected is an important one because both inspire COMPLETELY DIFFERENT contexts that plays in our minds while experiencing the game. "Zombie" has a very specific image that goes along with it. an undead or human looking creature which EATS people and devours their flesh. a "infected" could be anything depending on the rules of the world. are they just angry with "rage" where they dont eat people? what are the rules? there is NOBODY in their right mind that has heard of dayz or even knows it that wouldnt say "oh dayz? you mean that ZOMBIE game?" and to have a comeback to this saying "well their wrong" is to amount to saying there is a MASS psychosis on the world of incorrectly identifying this game despite the plethora of media and such that has been created for it inspiring this image. which is even more insane to think is true.

just as a little addition i want to ILLUMINATE who the type of people they are destroying the game for and shallowing out the experience to cater to. this is a conversation i had with a person about why they didnt want a mod (legacygunplay) added that made the gunplay less point and click and more surreal and interesting. this is what they said "Maybe it could be tuned to something I'd tolerate but I honestly would guess it would be just that. Something I'd TOLERATE. I wouldn't like it, I'd probably chose to play somewhere that didn't have it. Because like I said earlier I'm getting old and you know what I hate more than getting flicked on by some kid? Change, I hate change, I don't want to change, I don't want to get the feel for something new. I want to play the game as I already like it. (edited) August 3, 2024 these are the people and their "mindset" to why the game is "OK" to be shunted and shallowed out to be easier. because they HATE change. and they dont want to try. they would rather tolerate being flicked on by a kid instead of having a system that doesnt allow them to be "flicked" at all. laziness. completely lazy people is what this product is being made to cater to. people who dont want to "change" and dont want to try and just want cheap enjoyment.

i see dayz. in it first form was tied to arma 2. arma 2 IS a simulation game. just look at the steam page and it uses the word several times in not only its genre but its tags used on the product and even the product description. dayz mod was an ATTACHMENT to this foundation. so by connection dayz HAS TO BE a simulation game in its founding and its initial identity because that is what gave rise to it in the beginning. THAT IS what created its identity and game rise to the game. that ARMA 2 foundation of hardcore surreal simulation. without that foundation you have no dayz. and this argument of "theres no zombies in dayz" is the most ANNOYING argument ive ever heard. nobody. when they hear or even think "dayz" thinks "oh yeah day zero? yeah i know that". no. anyone literally anyone you ask would say "oh yeah that ZOMBIE game?". its a zombie game. thats what its known as and that is what it is. you can alter the facts about WHAT KIND of zombies they are. whether their undead or just infected but in the mod initial creation they ATE people. they had an animation that they ate players when they died or were uncon. something seemingly missing from the game entirely at this point. just looking at the steam page quickly the game even has the tag "simulation". anyways. anything i have to say hardly matters because the logic of the situation is that who ever is "in charge" of dayz right now does not give a crap about what it is or what it SHOULD be. all their thinking is IM IN CHARGE and i can basically do what ever i want within a very vague set of guildlines. those guilde lines being "chernarus+ eating food+ zombies= dayz". thats it. and they'll do anything to chop down the experience to get more people in the door as long as those are the only requirements met. because its not about sticking to what it actually is its about making it whatever that person in charge wants it to be. and shilling. thats it. the only hope i have for this game to return to the monumental experience it is capable of being is to get common people like you and myself to shun these people because its seems the only thing they care about in making decisions is not the truth but that the crowd wants. ive seen it already with the 1.16 update or whatever it was where everyone shouted at them for not fixing the hand bug the most egregious one of all in an update only dedicated to bug fixing. and guess what they did because there was a mob of people? not because they were right but just simply because there were enough of them. completely ridiculous.
