you think this should not be so?
-
absolutely and thank you for the response. and yes actually. squads gunplay changes is big factor in my mind when talking about this topic and i was amazingly surprised this changed happened. very few times if at all ive seen a game head in the opposite direction of moving from arcade to sophistication. and yes i agree these changes would ABSOLUTELY enrich the experience. because you cant pretend to have a "real" life altering experience when the game itself is not real and doesnt even feel like it. when a game feels like and arcade deathmatch that is exactly the way it is going to effect your mind and how you perceive that experience. which i would argue is a complete degradation of what is possible of feeling in this experience. a "cut down" feeling of what could be really happening.

yeah the i was thinking about this the other day. i all honesty i think the ONLY WAY you could make the game easier than it is now. THE ONLY WAY. is to add aim assist. i really dont think theres anything that can be done to make the game any easier
-
yeah but the difference is when you say "things will change" there is a difference between the balance of features changing to a full on IDENTITY swap to being a SHOOTER and not a SIMULATOR which in this case not that an identity can be SWAPPED. dayz cant do this. IT IS WHAT IT IS. and to make it something is ISNT just means it ISNT. it doesnt then make it dayz
-
that is a fair thing to say. which i dont know the answer to. it very much seems there is a bait and switch that has happened to what the game was promised to be before to what we have now with it being an arcade shooter vs the promised survival SIMULATOR it was said to be before. which is all the more reason what is happening in the game right now is OBJECTIVELY wrong.

I absolutely agree. Especially with the part about “having doubts”. I think this is how you know the gunplay has been dumbed down because now there is no doubt. People are pretty confident in just quickscoping each other because it’s just point and click. No sway. With no a whole lot of reason if at all to even question whether your shot won’t hit. which has its own side effects on the game like taking away any sense of tension or anxiety

i agree actually. and i think VISCERAL is the exact word i would use to describe it. .62 definitely had some great gunplay. it felt REAL. the recoil, the sway, the drag when changing directions. I WILL ADMIT. it wasnt perfect but it was extremely good for the EXPERIENCE it imparted upon the player. of making you truly feel GROUNDED in the world and making your mind think that THIS IS REAL. as for your second part. yes. i completely understand. this is VERY draining for me aswell. for every reason you listed. BUT. this does not stop me. Because I KNOW that this is IMPORTANT. I KNOW what this game CAN BE and the EXPERIENCES it is possible of inducing that i have never had happen in ANY other game. experiences like camping out in the woods in the middle of the night on the big hill behind electro with some of my friends and almost feeling like IT WAS REAL. or having deep conversations about existence and life with strangers i met on the coasts of berezino. experiences that can only happen when the game feels REAL and behaves like it is. not when it acts like a cod shooter knockoff. I have never had these experiences ever happen in this version of the game because of its now ARCADE attitude and mechanics that makes it IMPOSSILBE to take seriously like it was before. which i find IMMEASURABLY of higher value than quickscoping kids with mosins on northwest airfield and the rest of the shallow experience we have today. I almost see it as a LOSS to MY LIFE. to see that those sort of experiences i can no longer experience EVER in my life anymore. which is why i think this is something that is UNQUESTIONABLY worth fighting for. @Kyiara

yeah i hear you. honestly, what needs to be done is the game gets split into two different builds. because you can never get rid of this difference of controller and keyboard. they are just fundamentally two different input mechanisms and controller will never beable to be on the level of a keyboard simply for what it is. and i dont think the changes necessary to make this game the WAY IT SHOULD BE can happen on console with the controller. it would just be down right unenjoyable to play. i think this fact of reality needs to be acknowledged so that we can all get what we want. REALISM. because that is dayz's core identity of being a REAL zombie survival simulation. and so the console build of the game can stop holding back the experience of the pc. then everyone can be happy and those that are more SERIOUS about the experience can upgrade to a pc if they want the REAL DEAL. instead of a pocket, lite version that console is only capable of providing because of the controller.

yes. hello. and thank you. i appreciate your appreciation and I'm glad to see there is another person who understands, I hope, what i have said here. and can see the effects these changes have had on the game on how we PERCIEVE and EXPERINCE it. but if you do want to help. not just me but YOURSELF. then share this with others or leave a comment every now and then when the post starts to fall, to refresh it and bring it to the top so even more people will have the chance to read it and maybe we can get this game back on track to where it should be. I miss the old dayz and i miss the DEEP experiences i use to have inside of it that i no longer can have because the game has been cheapened, degraded and simplified because of these changes to the game. making it a shooter and not the DEEP, SURVIVAL, SIMULATOR that it once was. with all the emotional experiences that became possible because of that

i am usually a big proponent of realism. especially in this game. and it indeed would be realistic to take out zoom entirely. this doesnt happen in real life to any degree. go look down your neighborhood road and squint and see if your sight zooms in. HOWEVER. i think there is different grounds to keep the system in to "some" degree. although i think it should be a HEAVILY neutered state to where the normal is at the same level if not less than what it does when sprinting. which i think the sprint zoom level is actually more authentic than anything else and should be the standard. but like i was saying. i think the reason to keep it in the game AT AN ARRESTED STATE is because... its fun. it gives people something to do and something to fidget with when running from place to place. and is even cool to some degree when you are on top of a castle like say ZUB and squint and look around at the surroundings. i do think it should be HEAVILY scaled back to where binoc's and handheld scopes and such can take this role which would be amazing to see. BUT when i think about the game without it entirely where my eyes cant move at all I can see myself getting very bored especially in those runs through the woods when i like to be distracted by SOMETHING. like zooming in on the ground or the trees or the sky. it keeps me engaged in the world and constantly scanning my surroundings. but if it was gone ENTIRELY i could see myself getting very bored in those activities that are naturally boring.
-
do you think you would see someone tucked away in a house window at 100m in real life? and another question. even if the zoom stays the same and you can zoom into to see the window. when you aim down sights with say a mosin without a scope you still wouldnt be able to render in the window without a scope. so its pointless.

boost last comment december 11th today, december 25th (2 weeks, 14 days) Merry Christmas! and happy 10 years to DayZ! Heres to hoping the game starts going down the right path. the path it was always meant to from the beginning. that of a being a Zombie survival SIMULATOR. and not that of its current path of DEGRADING and CHEAPENING its experience to nothing more than a cheap ARCADE shooter with a big map. Which by doing, robs all of us, of an EXPERIENCE of immeasurably higher value. an experience that is only possible by being a SIMULATOR and not a cheap shooter. Where the world feels so REAL that you cant help but think that it just MIGHT BE, and where the people and experiences you meet feel even more SURREAL because of it. Heres to DayZ! and hoping that we all get the HIGHEST possible experience that we have the potential of getting from it.

this is true. but because of the increased accuracy and control capable of a mouse vs a thumbstick it is able to achieve a much closer connection to reality.
-
absolutely not! there is a difference between having a controller that doesnt allow you to hit anything vs having a mouse and actually having to fight real variables of reality. one is AUTHENTIC and the other is just MANUFACTURED INCOMPETENCE because the tools are not up to the job of the experience.

while this is true that does not elevate eating as a prime driver of why people play the game. nor does it make it the most important simply because you need to do it to continue to play the game. I'm not saying it cant be but the most EMOTIONALLY IMPACTFUL parts of the game is when you INTERACT with other players. Good people. Bad people. where that be bullets or just words. RUNNING INTO OTHER SURVIVORS and how you resolve that occurrence is at if not at THE TOP of the value hierarchy of the game. as it is the most exciting and EMOTIONALLY INCITING part of the game. there are very few people who log into dayz to pick up food and just eat it and avoid all the other aspects of what the game has to offer in EXPERIENCING an apocalypse. I'm not saying eating food cant be an enjoyable part of the experience. like surviving almost starving and then cooking a meal in the forest in the dark while wolves howling nearby. but IT WILL NEVER be more IMPORTANT than player interaction especially the gunfights with other people as you come close to death by another player. and even more if you happen to lose a friend during that encounter aswell. that is what DRIVES the game. and is why ballistics and everything associated to gunplay are OBJECTIVELY more important than other aspects like cooking within the game. ballistics determine how we experience gunfights. as either one hit kill dumbness or long drawn out rewarding experiences because we survive a few rounds.
-
the difference between your example here and the one we are making of gunplay mechanics is that. GUNPLAY MECHANICS. are fundamentally more important than cooking mechanics in the effects it has on our overall interpretation and experience of the game. as gun combat is at the heart of dayz's experience it is vitally more important that this be addressed and correct than that of food and cooking mechanics. and it is IMPORTANT because the TYPE of combat you have is the difference between being fortnite and being an AUTHENTIC zombie survival simulator. in the hierarchy of values within the game cooking is much lower than combat

i dont just want it to be "HARDER" for the sake of being harder. i want it to be REAL. real so i can insert myself in the game as if it were existence itself. and how can i do that when every gun is basically a lazer beam? how does that make me feel when i do it? like a baby.
-
i dont own reforger so i havent played it but from every video ive seen it is the same dumbed down mechanics that are in the standalone now. a very VERY farcry away from the realism in arma 2 or 3. which is sad to see as it spells the tale of arma following the same trend of babyfication that dayz has gone down to dumb the game down to people with short attention spans and even shorter intelligences
-
i understand but this is NOT HOW THE GAME WAS. arma 2, 3 and even dayz .62 did this. IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE. and if you havent experienced this actual sense of realism to shooting a gun in game i must tell you to play one of those games immediately to know what it feels like because it is life altering how it changes your perspective on how the game SHOULD be
-
theres nothing INHERENTLY wrong with arcade shooters perse. but what is wrong is when you take a game with an IDENTITY of REALISM and SIMULATION and force it to be an arcade shooter. and if i was to make one point. one grand observation to make it eternally obvious this is the case. just look at how you gun acts when aiming down sights. the gun is LOCKED to the center of your screen. completely eliminating the realistic aspect of having arms and having to fight recoil and experience it like it is in real life. is a gun locked to the center of your vision in real life? or does it float in front of you because you have arms? naturally this decision was made to cater and appease console because to not have that while playing with a controller pretty much completely destroys any ability to even play the game to an enjoyable level since you have very low ability to have FINE control with a joystick.
