  1. @DayzDayzFanboy I did not know!
  2. I tried cooking on the gas stove for the first time yesterday with a pot. I can add two bits of info I didn't see anywhere else: I was making chicken and it went from raw to burnt, skipping the baked stage. I think you need to use a frying pan for that. I did read that the pot always needs water, although that sounded counterintuitive for chicken -unless you're making chicken tomato soup or something. The second thing I noticed was that the pot, after cooking, is still hot (100 degrees C). When you place it in your inventory, it will provide you with residual heat for a while, keeping your temperature to go into blue. The hot pot in your inventory does not give you a '+' buff warming up in front of a fireplace gives.
  3. @Doc4975 when mounted onto your weapon, pull RT (you will see a prompt in lower left HUD) to turn on/off. Make sure like @DayzDayzFanboy says to not go into aim mode (holding down LT) while doing so, or you'll be firing the gun with RT.
  4. final update: after some digging I found how I can improve my chances, considerably it seems. My hideout and barrel collection 🙂 are currently adjacent to a city ("Town" according to the game files at https://github.com/BohemiaInteractive/DayZ-Central-Economy/blob/master/dayzOffline.enoch/db/types.xml Pliers are limited to Industrial, Farm and Village. So, I have to focus on sheds etc. in Villages instead of the Town I am almost entirely scavenging in... They don't have a Tier assigned (I think this is limited to Weapons) meaning any village from the coast to the north west should be good. See excerpt below for the Pliers entry: <type name="Pliers"> <nominal>40</nominal> <lifetime>14400</lifetime> <restock>0</restock> <min>25</min> <quantmin>-1</quantmin> <quantmax>-1</quantmax> <cost>100</cost> <flags count_in_cargo="0" count_in_hoarder="0" count_in_map="1" count_in_player="0" crafted="0" deloot="0"/> <category name="tools"/> <usage name="Industrial"/> <usage name="Farm"/> <usage name="Village"/> Wish me luck!

*HUGS* Dayz Loves me: I found a gift!

I found a Large Gift Box in Vibor last night, but it contained fairly low level loot, so I left it untouched for the next survivor. Are they limited to towns having a Christmas tree in the square?

    Noob question: storage persistence

When I left the game, tents hadn't been released yet nor hunting and fishing and I remember the thoughts of just hiding from everyone innawoods. I built a shelter from branches -surprisingly effective!- and am now dragging a barrel across Chernarus. My third. We plough ahead! Oh and thanks @Exxoduss very informative. I'll admit I do low pop servers because I like PVE more and just generally don't like online play, kind of an old fart I guess. So I guess it's a trade off, less conflict, less loot, hah.

    Noob question: storage persistence

Thanks for the indepth explanation. It makes sense, but also it doesn't. I just spent on a low pop (<5 players) server, going to -from Sveto- and looting all in Vibor -and there was nothing. Nothing. It doesn't make sense. All the while the same low loot count. The algorithm as you describe it must somehow work against itself when player counts are low. Or people are making mass excursions to other servers, loot everything and dump into their base on their home server. Or base builders hog them and prevent respawns somehow. Still hunting for pliers, but it's annoying. They're pliers, not M4s.

    Noob question: storage persistence

I wondered if the game tried to predict the kind of loot you were looking for, by looking at your inventory / loot and if you have a base or not. If I have a stash of nails, saws, hammers, storage in the wild, the game could predict I was looking for pliers. At the same time, I have a feeling that because of the low pop on the servers I play on, it affects loot somehow but can't really explain it. I'll just have to grind, eventually I'll get lucky heh.
  9. Tay4evah on xbox, thanks!

Again, many thanks! Based on your first answer I felt confident enough to try and it worked!

    Noob question: storage persistence

hey thanks, awesome thanks for clarifying. Does it mean that if I hop back onto the server where I hid the barrel, within the 42 (? 45?) days, it's still there?
  12. hi, I'm new and playing on Xbox official servers. I've been trying to find pliers now for two weeks, and it's limiting my enjoyment now, all I can do is search and store some loot in a barrel I managed to hide. Does anyone know a sure fire place, or maybe have a spare? I'm online most every day (EU time zones). Thanks!
  13. hi all, New here, and new to DayZ on Xbox, used to play on PC back when it was an Arma 2 mod. Great to see it survived. My questions are: I have two barrels hidden in the woods, for lack of pliers anywhere. If I go to a different official server (am on official server now), will my barrels and loot be there? Are they bound to the server I made them on? Is it possible to go to a different server, loot, hop back to the server I have barrels on? The server is fine, I am desperate to find pliers and build a base, looking for two full weeks now in all the loot quality zones, on the right spawn locations and nothing. Thanks for answering!
