Turns out I'm an axe murderer? I understand myself more now - turns out the only thing needed to push me over the edge of becoming an axe wielding maniac is the fear of imminent starvation. Here's the story: So, I'm a couple hours into this character. I've been pretty lucky, I've got good medical supplies, some sodas, an upgraded bag, some army camo, and an axe. One thing I don't have? Food. I've looted almost the entire factory sector of cherno by this point, and have yet to find a single can of beans. I'm starting to get hungry. I get so desperate for food that I'm at the point where I decide to just take advantage of my axe's unlimited ammo, and literally RUN throughout cherno looking for beans, hacking through any zombies in my way. Stupid, I know, but it was really late IRL and I was getting desperate for beans or a hunting knife. After 20 minutes of this, no luck. Then I round a corner and see another player, unarmed. I didn't even hesitate. I just ran straight to him and hacked him to death without even thinking about it. It wasn't until after I did it that I realized really what I'd done. That was a totally cold blooded murder. He didn't have any weapons, or any food, so it was all for nothing. A minute or so later, I enter an apartment building. I hear footsteps, but I'm not sure where they're coming from, and don't hear a response to my direct comms. Then I turn around to go back up the stairs and right behind me was another survivor. He scared the crap out of me, and I just started hacking him with my axe while apoligizing and letting him know how scary he was over direct chat. Another murder. What have I become? Moments later another surivor heads down the stairwell, this one armed with a pistol. "Oh god. He's going to see that I killed this guy who is probably his friend. He'll want revenge... I have to kill him first." So, again, with no hesitation, I start hacking at him, apologizing copiously over direct chat all the while. After my first murder, I had committed two more murders within the next 5 minutes. I felt like a horrible person. Is this what it's like to become a bandit? Am I a bandit now? Is this what I'd act like in a real apocalypse situation? The thing is, that third guy I killed? The one with the pistol? He had beans. Was the price worth it? I don't know. But I survived. I've got the experience recorded here: (A lot of dead air in this 30 min video - the real action happens at 19:30 and 21:30 or so.)

Dang. Got ruined by archlite. If any of the folks who commented are still around, you can fix the archlite issue by just hitting edit then post - I still link this thread to people sometimes and your replies were all great - would love to be able to read them again. Edit: It looks like posting this additional reply to the thread fixed everyone's formatting up! Nice!

Use bandicam. I've used it for a ton of day z videos and it works great. Best part is that it encodes on the fly so the filesizes are much lower than fraps. here an example of a vid recorded with bandicam:

Who else bought ArmA 2 + OP Arrowhead just for DayZ ?
z310 replied to Bitey's topic in New Player Discussion
I did. I tried Arma II demo near when it first came out, but the tutorial was buggy as heck and just plain awful so I didn't even think about making a full purchase. The Arma II OA expansion is much, much better though. I've played a bit of that after buying the Combined ops pack. (Seriously if you want to try Arma II itself, start with the Operation Arrowhead tutorials. Don't touch the default Arma II ones, the OA ones are insanely better.) -
Just watch some videos to see what the gameplay is like and decide that way. You can see exactly what the gameplay is like and compare it to Stalker.

server hoppers are the #1 best way to get loot up there. headshot them when they're loading and grab all the goodies they've gotten by hopping

Game is the most fun at the very beginning?
z310 replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had more fun when people didn't learn to just run thru towns with zeds trailing them -
I think it happens if they hit your legs

Hello. I've noticed that many of you have taken it upon yourselves to keep the zombie population fit and lean. You've begun training courses for them, where you alert anywhere from two to two dozen zeds and have them chase you through towns and cities. Your intentions of eradicating zombie obesity are noble. I did my best to defend unarmed zombie trainers, even letting them live after bringing a load of zombies near me. I found their dedication to zombie fitness somewhat annoying and troublesome, but I tolerated it and allowed them to live. However I'm afraid that I can no longer have this policy. You see - zombies are dangerous. They're not really attending your fitness class. That's just what they want you to think. What they're actually trying to do is kill you. And everyone else. Keeping them physically fit is counterproductive to your and my survival! I found myself in a situation where I was crawling with broken legs, literally 5 feet away from a hospital full of precious morphine, when one of your ilk brought 10 zombies to me. I was unable to flee due to my broken legs, and though I valiantly slew 4 of the beasts, I fell to their overwhelming numbers as my gunshots attracted more. This didn't have to happen. From this point forward, if you come near me with your zombie fitness squad, I will kill you. I no longer support your quest to keep zombies fit, and will demonstrate my stance on the issue by placing a bullet into your skull at high velocity. So there you go. You've been warned. Carry on your zombie training if you must, but do it far away from me if you wish to live.

Sir or Madam I'm afraid if you continue this reckless behavior I will be forced to apply bullets to you until your body ceases to function... if or when I see you. Please reconsider your actions.

Yeah, prolly wanna post this in the survivor forums. You know, bandits probably kill more bandits than non-bandits already. So technically the most anti-bandit players are bandits themselves.... !
-
No, you're just a safe person. I pretty much kill on sight anyone running towards me nowadays. Used to be I just killed armed people that see me, but now unarmed folks are getting shot too. Especially if they're running with a train of zombies. It was cute the first couple times, but after being killed by an unresponsive untalkative unarmed player who brought 20 zombies to kill me when i was crawling for some morphine... I'm not so sympathetic any more! (Pretty smart form of PvP for him really, he got a bunch of loot from my corpse.) So if you're one of those guys who just likes to aggro huge trains of zombies so they can run into buildings for gear more quickly, beware. Bring a big train into a building that I'm in? You're a liability son and I'm gonna put you down!

Main reasons most kill: 1. Paranoia, fear that the other will kill them so they shoot first 2. Loot. They want that better gun, they're starving so need some beans, etc.

Seems like you have a good set of policies going! My operating basis is kinda similar. 1. If I am unarmed, I'm everyone's friend. If I see an unarmed person, I'll let them go about their way, and team up if they like. If I see an armed person (and they see me) I will tell them that I'm unarmed and shower them with praise and flattery. "My, you're looking quite handsome today sir!" 2. If I'm armed, and I run into an unarmed person, I will let them be. If they're coming to loot an area that I'm looting though, I will advise them to stop and vacate the premises for their own safety. (If I notice they find a good piece of loot I'm liable to murder them.) 3. If I'm armed, and I see another armed person, my actions depend on if they see me or not. If they see me and come anywhere near me or aim towards me in any way, I'm shooting them without hesitation. If they don't see me, I'll stalk them and try to find their base/tent and then murder them. Especially if they look like they have good loot. So there's my "bandit code"

Breaking news - DayZ will be part of Arma 2!
z310 replied to 7-75 callaghan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Awesome!!! As in, It will be an option included with your default install of arma II: CO. No extra files to download, no having to update the files every couple of days, no six launcher, it will just be bundled by default and updated automagically via steam. -
Dang dude that totally sucks! Hope you do better next time. Trust nobody is a good policy. I only trust unarmed people. If someone armed sees me, 90% of the time I shoot first. (And if they don't see me, I'll probably stalk them hoping to find their home base...) I'm just too paranoid of losing my stuff like you did, so I tend to the bandit side of things.

I'm pretty sure this is just a bug on some servers right now. It's not intended to be like that! (On a server i was playing the other day, the admin shut down the server for 10 minutes and when it came back up he said "Ok, the death messages are fixed, they should no longer appear now.")
-
Hey maybe don't do that. It would cost money to fix the window and the monitor is probably expensive too. If you don't want your monitor I'm sure someone will take it off your hands!

Server where clans have territory
z310 replied to maximus (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah. This is already 100% implemented in the game! Clans can have their own territory, defend it, go to war etc already! Join or create one and get going :) -
I totally can't look myself in the mirror at all... I tried but so far haven't found a bathroom or any sort of mirror in the game :( And yeah, I realize now that I wasn't actually that hungry. Last night I broke my legs fighting a "Barn Stairs Boss" and crawled for a good 40 minutes on red then flashing red thirst. I didn't realize you could go so long with red and flashing red indicators until last night. (I'm still not sure quite how long it lasts because I eventually died to zombies not thirst) I was just a noob and thought I was hungrier than I was!

*tinfoil hat on* You would trust him? Who are you? Are you a plant' date=' come here to convince me to trust Mr Trust? How can I trust you telling me who to trust? I don't know man, I'm freaking out here! Thats totally fair. In playing a little bit more, I've settled on a policy of sorts. First policy: I'm the friendliest guy you've ever met if I don't have a weapon. Second policy: I'm also pretty friendly if you don't have a weapon and I do. Third policy: If you have a weapon, and I have a weapon.... I'm not quite so friendly. The paranoia sets in.... so better keep your distance! Fourth policy: I reserve the rights for starvation and paranoia to change other policies on the fly.

Even if they were complete idiots that responded by saying that the bleeding mechanic was the only way to keep the purple monkeys from escaping the airfield, they still wouldn't deserve to be talked to like that dude. It's just out of line. Dunno what's happening that's making you so angry that you are responding in that fashion. You must have had some crazy stuff going on dude! Drama in life sucks and I hope it works out for the best and things get better for you man.
