Disconnecting to avoid death
achtbead@hotmail.co.uk replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The last 6 survivor encounters have all included people logging out/in. As soon as anyone hears a shot nowadays they log out. Sure enough, a little while later they log back in and kill me or my friends. Luckily we've been able to avenge our deaths most of the time! But this has broken the game along with loot hoppers - hopefully rocket and the team implement something in the 1.7.2 fix. I had some really fishy players who seemed like they could teleport to people logging in as well today. I like the idea that if you kill a player you have a 5 min cooldown before you can d/c - someone said that you'd have to plan a way out to safety before you take the shot, which is a cool idea. Spose it doesn't stop Alt+F4 assclowns. -

25 euros. or at least that's how they perceive it :s Does Rocket not work for Bohemia? I bought ArmA2 for DayZ only. Good suggestion' date=' but a flawed idea. People would use this to detect if there are people close to them. I think the only simple way to implement a deterrent is to have a really long egg timer appear before being able to disconnect. Leaving yourself exposed to being shot and unable to react. [/quote'] It's a flawed idea for many reasons. What if I'm at camp and want to DC next to my mates? I addressed this by saying that you can add known friendly players in order to dc by them. -

[/quote'] I suppose, but all it would do is let you know that something was nearby - human or zombie, it wouldnt reveal a location. Remembering how immersive rocket is trying to make the game, you wouldn't settle down for the night in an apocalypse next to a threa, so it's addition would make thematic sense. I definitely agree that timers should be used somewhere as a deterrent. -

The problem with this is that the game is incredibly immersive. So when you're playing while that disconnected from reality, you don't make plans or react most effectively in situations that have such a huge disconnect from that immersive environment. It's just not the way our brains work when we have that disconnect from reality. So sure, eventually... we'll train ourselves to always think of exploiters first at all times, if it's not fixed. But if we come to that point, the gameplay is already ruined beyond repair. In Fallout there was a mechanic where you couldn't wait or go to sleep if there were enemies nearby. Why not implement this for D/Cers? You can't manually disconnect when there's a zombie or aggressor within a certain distance. Admittedly it doesn't stop people who Alt+F4. This could be overcome by introducing a 2 minute timer to reconnect to the same server if you Alt+F4. The only issue would be not being able to log out when playing with friends, but it would be possible to split up a short distance to log out. Maybe we could tag certain players as 'friendlies', which would have to be accepted by both players allowing them to log off. -

I'm loving this game, what an achievement guys. Well done. The game I've always wanted to make - if only I knew how! I think people will stop raging if the balance of the game was fairer, which is different to asking for it to be easier. The main culprit are the zombies. I totally get the tension created by starting without guns and I love it but we need a chance to find things. I'm finding that if I'm looting somewhere, I'm forced to run away and do something less interesting. The main thing is that they spot you way too easily. Could this be toned down? Or perhaps, like you have the probability of something appearing in the loot locations is there a way to add a probability of attack? So if a zombie does clock you, could certain zombies have different percentages so some would ignore you and others might attack?
